Got your message[edit]

Just got your message about passivity on my talk page (I use many IPs, so it took a while before I saw it). I had posted an apology on the talk page of passive component a while ago. You're right that the comments were inappropriate.

On a related/unrelated note, I would propose that we consolidate passive component and active component into a single page called "passivity" with redirects from both. Active component simply means "not passive" and replicating content between both seems like a lot of unnecessary and error-prone work. Fantastic! I have put it in the article. But I don't think it was ever called the Jubilee: more about this on on the photo page. At any rate, I am so glad that you posted this! And you should have seen me when I first stumbled across it on Google a while back; it really made my day! If you feel like digging up the others I'd certainly love to see them. Naushon![edit]

Thanks Wmjames. I've been enjoying all your work on the Nobska page. Great NPS photo you found. The Nobska was just a little before my time, although I was present when they pulled it away to take it to Baltimore. (We may still have photos or super-8 of the event, although if I remember correctly it centers on us kids rather than on the steamer.) And yes, the Naushon was really neat; so many interesting spaces for a kid to explore! I'm very glad Fujoshi (talk · contribs) and NantoLeb were so generous with their photos! Yeah I wish I had access to some better Nobska photos, but I don't (there are some online, but the articles look better with a few good ones in the article). At least I could put up one from the NPS. I have a memory of being on the Naushon and being just inside the jetties as they were towing out the Nobska with a tugboat, and there were people on it. Seems odd it had a tugboat, so I'm not sure of the accuracy of this mental image. Wait, you wrote, "pulled it away." Huh. Maybe I actually remember it accurately. Ah, nostalgia. They were pretty old boats, that is certain. I like the Eagle, it's big enough to be stately, but I still don't know about the somewhat recent renovations to the current Nantucket, it doesn't look the same. In fact I remember the tugboat as being of the little red stereotypical kind. I think the Eagle's appearance mimics the Naushon's in a lot of ways; perhaps on purpose? And finally, don't forget that the M/V Nantucket's changes are tame compared with the Uncatena's final renovations! Wow!!!! *That's* the Uncatena?!?!? I... wow. I kinda liked the old Uncatena in some ugly duckling way. I remember reading the the SA cut it in half and lengthened it when they bought it, but that's nuts. Well at least it's still floating. Seems a lot of old boats end up as casinos, weird (although there is probably little to be done with a big boat that isn't so seaworthy anymore). I think the Eagle bridge looks old school, which is nice, although I can't explain what it is about it that makes me think that. --Wmjames (talk) 15:24, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for posting that side view of the Naushon! I agree about the Eagle's bridge. A boxy narrow pilothouse with small windows and a railing; it's a very old-school style! Hermann's paper on entropy[edit]

Yeah isn't that wild? That paper absolutely blew me away. Of course, one oddity about thinking of heat as entropy is that this would mean more "heat" would enter a cold object than had left the warm one! But maybe I'm just too used to thinking of heat as energy rather than than as the force-driven entity responsible for that energy. Perhaps someone who was just learning these concepts would find that detail somewhat less strange? At any rate, the whole thing is a really intriguing idea.
