Disambiguation link notification for March 1

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Happy Monster Band, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Don Carter. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Blanes

Hello:

Thanks for your helpful contributions to the Guild of Copy Editors March drive. I am one of the GOCE coordinators. I reviewed the edits you made to the article Blanes nearly all of which improved the article. I found just two minor things I wanted to draw to your attention.

Numbers under 10 are generally written in words so "1 million" becomes "one million". Also, in this article, there was detailed information about the fireworks, some of which was repetitive, in two sections. I combined it all in the Fireworks section and deleted the Economy section which was then empty. Another editor added citation tags to nearly every section. I removed them and added one "universal" tag at the top of the article. This makes it less distracting for readers of the article.

Thanks again for your help.

Happy editing,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 14:03, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Twofingered Typist. Thanks for this, for some reason "one million" didn't cross my mind; I must have just imagined 1,000,000 and then ignored it. Cheers, ritenerektalk :) 14:18, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Now worries, lots of stuff gets by me on the first pass, so I've learned to go through an article once, take a break, and then do a second pass just in case. Cheeers, Twofingered Typist (talk) 14:21, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Twofingered Typist, off-topic but, would you mind having a look at Rail transport in India? I'm in the process of copy editing it and it's quite a big article for me so any feedback or advice would be really useful. Thanks, ritenerektalk :)

I'd say you've done a great job thus far! A few minor MOS details.

En dashes are used with numbers or time (no spaces) which should be used in the charts. You should use em dashes instead elsewhere in this article – no spaces when they are being used instead of commas. Single quotes are used in British English when you are not writing conversation.

You should restore this Electric multiple unit (EMU) since this is the first time the acronym appears. After this simply EMU can be used.

Watch for missing “the”s (articles) add “the” to Kolkota Metro and Delhi Metro. (I've found this is common in articles on Indian subjects.)

Twofingered Typist (talk) 15:45, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Twofingered Typist, cheers!
  1. I thought that either en or em dashes could be used as punctuation – with consistency in an article? (MOS)
  2. I think that EMU was defined two paragraphs before. (here)
  3. I will have a look for those pesky missing articles!
Thanks again, ritenerektalk :) 15:59, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
My bad re dashes!! WP:MOS contradicts major style guides! I'd still use en dashes between a range of numbers (no spaces). Missed the earlier definition. In which case they acronym itself is fine. 16:18, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Twofingered Typist, not a problem and don't worry, I wouldn't use an em dash for a range. Thanks for everything! ritenerektalk :) 16:25, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Alloy

Hi Ritenerek,

I just noticed your edit to the alloy article. As one of the people who wrote much of that article, I can guarantee it was never copied from some metallurgy blog I've never seen before. More likely the other way around, in that they copied it from us. One giveaway is that the blog was posted just this year, long after the alloy article was written. (It's actually not uncommon, as I've seen stuff I've written or pics I've taken used in everything from books to blogs to scientific journals to movies. You have to be very careful when sourcing info not to fall victim to citogenesis.) I'm happy to let a copyright investigation take place, because I have no doubt what the finding will be, but just thought I'd let you know. Have a nice day. Zaereth (talk) 18:13, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Zaereth,
This definitely crossed my mind; I am at fault here for adding the template without knowing anything about the field or properly checking the blog itself. I will revert my edit and be more thorough in future. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Yours, ritenerektalk :) 20:29, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
No problem. When it comes to copyright issues, better to act on it an be wrong than to simply ignore it. I did the same thing when I was new, over at the dogfight article. I went so far as to blank the article and open an investigation, and started a complete rewrite, just to find out it was just a coincidence. (Too many people had built our article up over time for it to be a copy/paste, but it sure looked convincing at the time.) At the bottom of the blog is the date t was posted, if that helps. If you have any questions or need any help, User:Moonriddengirl is our foremost expert on all things copyright, and I'm sure she'd be happy to give some assistance. Have a great day. Zaereth (talk) 21:12, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Zaereth, cheers. I shall keep her in mind. You too! ritenerektalk :) 21:16, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Upucerthia

Hi Ritenerek: You tagged the Upucerthia article recently as needing footnotes. I've done some updates and removed the tag, but I want to check that they meet with your approval. Can you let me know? MeegsC (talk) 11:29, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi MeegsC, looks great to me! Thanks for leaving me a message; all the best, ritenerek:) 16:45, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
