Welcome!

Hello, Rnlrobinson, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Also, please don't mark edits with significant content changes as minor edits, as you did to Barenaked Ladies here. Again, welcome! —Akrabbimtalk 01:56, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}}Akrabbim - thanks for the advice and the friendly nature of your feedback. :) Fair enough I goofed with thinking my update was a minor edit. However, is that your only reason for reverting it? Rnlrobinson (talk) 04:25, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At a guess, the reversion was due to the use of a blog as a supporting reference; generally blogs are not considered reliable sources. Without having read the blog entry or the resulting comments, I suspect they didn't support the assertions made in the text. I'd also suggest the tone of the writing was considered encyclopedic. But, I don't know. Perhaps you should take this up at Talk:Barenaked Ladies? Josh Parris 05:13, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c) Hi Rnlrobinson. The helpme template is really better suited for a general question. Since Akrabbim left you the weclome template above and you addressed your question to him, it's possible that he might return here and see your question, but it's not a targeted way of reaching that user. Mostly, the people who will see your post are people who monitor the category that the template places your page into while the template is live. A better way of reaching the specific user you want is to visit and post a question at that user's talk page. This is your talk page, and as you can see, when someone leaves a message here you get the unmistakable orange banner saying "you have new messages", just as Akrabbim will if you leave him a message on his talk page. Most users have a link to their talk page in their signature, as Akrabbim does above. Just click on the part of his signature that says "talk". Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:18, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, I didn't revert it just because it was marked as a minor edit, I just though that I would mention it. The reason that I reverted the edit was because I didn't think the the content was notable for inclusion into the band's article, besides the tone not being encylopedic. First of all, the information applied very specifically to one of their albums, so if anywhere it would belong in the You Run Away or All in Good Time articles. Like Josh Parris mentioned, the source was a blog, which are usually not relied upon as reliable sources (see WP:RS). The tone of the sentence "the band seems to have failed to grasp the global nature of the Internet" also is un-encyclopedic. Unless this inconsideration of theirs was reported by the professional media or other reliable sources, a statement like this doesn't belong on Wikipedia (see WP:Verifiability). I hope that answers your question.

To add to what Fuhghettaboutit said, if someone leaves you a message and you aren't sure they are still watching your page, you can use the {{talkback}} or {{tb}} templates on their talk page (like someone did here) to let someone know that you have responded. —Akrabbimtalk 21:00, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
