James Short[edit]

Hello, and apologies for not explaining what I was doing in the first place. Some of us who've been here a long time aren't as supportive of newcomers as we should be.

The main thing is, we need to add a reference to where the info comes from. While I'm sure that your info is perfectly genuine, the reader needs to be able to verify it, which means to check that the information comes from a reliable source.

As to putting the stats in the box on the right, that box is for appearances and goals in domestic league games only, not cup competitions. Some people think that we shouldn't include wartime leagues, others don't mind so long as the reader can tell the difference: have a look at the page Billy Hughes (footballer, born 1918) for one way of distinguishing them. Without any distinction, it'd look as if Mr Short played those games in the Football League, which he didn't: the League didn't restart after the war until 1919, by which time he'd signed for Birmingham.

So what you need to do, is find out from your mate what book the stats come from and what page of the book, and how many of the appearances and goals were in league competition. Then put the reference (name of book, page etc) after the sentence about his Notts County career and put the stats back in the box. Don't worry about formatting it properly or putting it in the right place, I can sort that out if necessary.

Again, sorry for not explaining myself before. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:55, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
