Hello and welcome to WP:PW[edit]

Apart from the "standard" welcome message, I'd like to welcome you, Rockyrock632 to the Professional wrestling WikiProject. From that page, you'll see many important pages related to pro wrestling on Wikipedia, especially the Style guide which teaches you how to add content to Wikipedia, especially what sources to use. Only reliable sources are allowed and secondary sources are highly encouraged, so you should steer clear of unverified sites like marcelusive.net and stick to sites like pwtorch.com and wrestleview.com. Lastly, feel free to introduce yourself at WT:PW! Hope to see you make many meaningful contributions! Starship.paint (talk) 04:32, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adding wrestling moves and sources[edit]

Hey Rockyrock632, I do understand that you want to add moves to wrestlers' moveset here on Wikipedia, but please take note: you must use reliable sources. PWTorch, Wrestleview, PWInsider are okay. A full list can be found here. Do not use other sources, especially from your edit pattern, do not use YouTube. YouTube is not accepted here, as it considered as original research. Also, as per Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Professional_wrestling/Archive_85#How Many "Signature Moves" Can One Wrestler Have?, we strongly discourage the adding of moves which wrestlers have used rarely or the first time. A signature move is one that a wrestler uses commonly, not once or twice. A good example which you added was Miz's sitout side slam, which he seems to have only done once IIRC. Another example is Cesaro's Michinoku Driver. So, when sourcing a move, please try to add three sources to cite that move. Also there's no need for spaces between the [[ | ]]. Starship.paint (talk) 07:19, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a good example of how to source a move, with multiple reliable sources. Tyson Kidd's Slingshot guillotine leg drop to an opponent draped over the second rope[1][2][3] Click edit to read the sources. Starship.paint (talk) 08:26, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, great! Let's see whether you can improve your edits... I originally undid your edits for Mason Ryan, but now I'm re-adding the moves you added and the YouTube sources. Now, the YouTube sources are not supposed to be there, so it's your job to go search for the reliable sources online and replace the YouTube sources with those. For example, you can Google site:pwtorch.com "Mason Ryan" "vertical suplex". If you manage to find three instances of the moves being used by Ryan, you're good to go. I'll check back on Ryan's page in a few days to clean up. I removed the Stretch Muffler finisher because he really only used it once. Starship.paint (talk) 00:03, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, and uploading photos isn't very fun here. Gotta have a "free use" license for that, and I don't think your in-game screenshot counts if WWE still owns the copyright. Starship.paint (talk) 00:07, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I finished up tidying up Mason Ryan as well, and yes, it took me quite a lot of time as well! If you want to see the difference between my edits and yours, it's here. Basically, you've gotten down the basics of citing references, which is great. What I did is that I replaced a few PWTorch sources with PWInsider sources because PWInsider is more detailed with the moves, but PWTorch is still an acceptable source. I removed some of the moves like the multiple turnbuckle thrusts and shoulder block because our policy here is not to list very basic moves, otherwise we'll be putting in Irish whips, hammerlocks and arm drags next. There was a problem with the gorilla press sources having nothing to do with Mason Ryan, so I replaced them. Also, do you know how to use <rf name=qwe/>? Replace rf with ref. If you have a reference that you can cite more than one move, for the first move you put in the entire reference <rf name=qwe>{{}}<rf/> and for the second move you put in <rf name=qwe/> and it will cite the move. Also, the multiple PW1 PWI1 PWI were confusing, so I changed them to vsBourne vsMcIntyre etc. If you want to cite PWTorch better use T1, and for PWInsider use IN1, don't use PW. Starship.paint (talk) 05:22, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and you deserve praise as well. Do continue contributing, I look forward to that! Starship.paint (talk) 04:28, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great, you've made a lot of contributions since the last time we talked. I've looked and they're pretty good. Only problem is that I feel that you are still including some basic moves, the back body drop and turnbuckle thrusts in particular. The back body drop is really an almost forgotten move compared to some years ago, yet it remains basic and it's hard to justify having it as a signature move given its basic-ity, surely wrestlers have used it let's say five times in 2012, yet it's not really counted as a signature. One more thing... not sure whether the IEDDT is the real name for Orton's DDT. I've never heard WWE refer to it on Raw/SD nor on WWE.com. Searching other reliable sources comes out nothing. I think this particular PWInsider writer likes coming up with names - see Blackpool Slam for Barrett. So just be aware. Also, I'm afraid you need a reliable source for 'body surfing'. Starship.paint (talk) 07:53, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the back body drop, let's wait a month or so to see whether it is regularly used by Miz. About body surfing, if you could take a picture of the WWE Magazine saying so and upload it to the internet (not upload it to wikipedia as an image) then it would be considered a reliable source. Starship.paint (talk) 02:22, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, just a small note here, generally here we like to keep headers short, the general guideline is five words and below if possible. As such, I shortened Miz's "face turn and feud with Antonio Cesaro" to simply "face turn", with the rationale that his feud with Cesaro isn't really "big" enough to justify inclusion in the header. If we listed all feuds and titles, it might lead to (in Barrett's case to provide an example) "The Barrett Barrage, Intercontinental Champion, feuds with Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Bo Dallas". Kinda ugly, don't you think? Starship.paint (talk) 11:58, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:The Dynamite.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:The Dynamite.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NtheP (talk) 19:59, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:CM Punk vs. The Rock.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:59, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Non Free Images[edit]

All your non-free images have been changed to free images by various editors - cc-by-sa-2.0 on Flickr is an acceptable license for re-use in Wikipedia. You would have had a hard time keeping them as non-free - too big (100,000 pixels max), and overused in article - no galleries of non-free images allowed.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:05, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
