Edit warring on Mercy Corps[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Excessive editing and tagging of the Mercy Corps article seems strange[edit]

Read above. Unfortunately your conflict of interest editing involves contributing to Wikipedia in order to promote Mercy Corps . Because your the senior writer for Mercy Corps, Such a conflict is strongly discouraged. Your contributions to wikipedia under RogerBurks and IP 207.189.98.44, consist entirely of promote Mercy Corps. Looking through your contributions as a whole, the all seem to be Mercy Corps related only. I've been looking at the edits on Mercy Corps and the conversation taking place between you and RogerBurks since it was recently reported at Wikipedia talk:Administrator intervention against vandalism. I must ask that you please not bite the newcomers. RogerBurks appears to be editing in good faith and addressing the concerns regarding NPOV that are mentioned in the pages templates.
Your comments on this user's talk page seem repetitive and appear to be from a template. They do not communicate clearly what issue you have, aside from repeatedly issuing the COI warning. You also add a list of IP addresses here but fail to explain what relevance or meaning they have, possibly confusing the user further. Although the template regarding WP:COI mentions that users should "exercise great caution" when a COI could be interpreted, it does not expressly prohibit it. Therefore, without specific guidance the repeated posting of this template likely serves only to annoy rather than inform or instruct. Indeed it was not until this section that you that you bothered to explain yourself clearly. Again, as you state above, apparent COI is strongly discouraged but not prohibited. I believe that we should judge RogerBurks edits on their face rather than revert them outright (Roger- you need to make sure you add verifiable references that are not primary sources). --Mperry 01:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
RogerBurks is no newcomer, this account has been active since, 3 February 2006, over a year and a half. Perhaps the 254 edits from IP 207.189.98.44(Registered to MERCYCORPS), and the mutitude use of sock accounts and IP's shed some light on the long term nature of the problem that wikipedia faces. The reason that there are several posts from that IP address is that there are multiple people working for Mercy Corps who contribute to various parts of Wikipedia. It's not just me; I have a user account and usually log in to make changes. If you look at the posts from that IP, you'll see many more contributions than just Mercy Corps. In fact, one of any 150 people who work at Mercy Corps could have made edits or contributions at any given time. This is not part of some sock puppet campaign of self-promotion. I think this is ridiculous - and disagree that, just because I work for an organization, that I am unable to provide an objective voice on Wikipedia. The fact that my contributions have been mostly about Mercy Corps is irrelevant - I am striving to be neutral and just spent time this afternoon making the Mercy Corps article more objective. Why shouldn't subject-matter experts be able to create and edit articles, when efforts are made to stay objective? Seems draconian.

By the way, a colleague just pointed this article out to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_pod. Not only VERY self-promotional, but actually offers links to go and buy the products. So you have a team in place to promote Mercy Corps on Wikipedia? Conflict of interest is a conflict of interest, they don't come in sizes. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The nature of Wikipedia means that you can't make a convincing argument based on what other articles do or don't have a COI issue. OK, fair enough. As mentioned, though, I have made numerous - and frequent - changes to abide with the rules here. A question: what do I need to do to get the COI tag removed from the article? Unfotunatly the tag needs to stay as its a factual. I tried another version of the tag, however this one is better. You are the largest contributor with 96 total since your first edit back on 02/03/2006. You company IP comes in at second with 14 since first edit on 11/16/2004. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. File permission problem with File:TsunamiCass.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TsunamiCass.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
