Hi Roland. If you give a look at WP:EL it's written that among the links to be avoided are "Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors." Also, it is added "English language links are strongly preferred in the English-language Wikipedia. It may be appropriate to have a link to a foreign-language site, such as when an official site is unavailable in English, when the link is to the subject's text in its original language or they contain visual aids such as maps, diagrams, or tables, per the guideline on foreign-language sites." While not completely prohibited, foreign-language links should be avoided if possible, and still more this is true for wikis.--Aldux 19:25, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dated cleanup tags

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your message, SmackBot does not generally add tags, but merely dates those that are already there. Regards, Rich Farmbrough, 18:24 30 July 2007 (GMT).

Hi Roland

[edit]

Hi, first of all i would like to thank you about your concern about the page that i'm expanding . second , how can i keep those photos from wikivoyage on wikicommons legally ??? thanks in advance Ahmadpontymageed (talk) 4:43, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

It's not a problem. All the photographs at Wikivoyage are free, mostly with CC-by-sa licenses. Therefore, all photographs from Wikivoyage can be legally uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. But you should not only upload the images but also copy the image description. You can copy the Information template from Wikivoyage because Wikivoyage uses the same syntax. But you must edit the Auther und Source parameters: In case of the author you should use the names directly without the Wikivoyage links because they do not work. Or at least you shoult edit them. In case of the Source you should add a text like "Download from [ url Wikivoyage]. --RolandUnger (talk) 08:15, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Monastery of Saint Samuel

[edit]

Dear Roland. I am Egyptian and I grew up in that Area and I visited the monastery multiple times. The monastery is near Maghagha in Minya governorate and right next to villages called El Zawra and Deir el Garnoos, both of which I have visited myself. Here are some links in Arabic that prove the monastery is in Minya:

Please revert your edits otherwise I will change them myself.

Thank you. Bethy17 (talk) 17:35, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Bethy17, nice to meet any people who also visited the Samuel monastery. But nevertheless you are wrong. Please do not read the wrong press (Minya attack - this is nonsense - it was not in the city of el-Mina) but look on a map! The monastery is about 42 km northwest of Maghagha. It lies in a narrow strip of in the Beni Suef governorate directing into the Western desert. I is north of Fashn (!) at about the same latitude like Biba. And both cities are in the Beni Suef governorate. By the way in a historical way, the monastery belongs to al-Faiyum.
Of course you have two ways to come to this monastery. You can use the desert highway to el-Minya, but the diversion is at the border between Minya and Beni Suef governorates. And then you have to go about 30km to the north, to Beni Suef. If you will take the agricultural road then you will pass Maghagha. Then you will go the west to the same diversion as mentioned before. I know all the monasteries in el-Minya area. So, Deir el Garnoos is of course in el-Minya governorate but not far from from el-Minya-Beni Suef border. And then you have to go about 50 km to the north-west!
By the way, when I will come back to Beni Suef and el-Minya (I think in spring of 2019) then we can check together the position. In the last weeks I was sad that my photographs of Egyptian churches and monasteries were used in a huge extend because of these catastrophes happened to the Coptic people. --RolandUnger (talk) 18:08, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
