When I edited the first mithridatic war, I simply provided the sum of all the deaths in the conflict. 75,000 Roman soldiers, 150,000 ponic soldiers and 100,000 Roman civilians killed in the mithridatic massacres. Together, they make up 325,000 dead so I didn't think I needed to provide a source. Romulus Cyrus (talk) 05:39, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Reliable sources and citation formatting

Hello there. A random web page like Necrometrics.com is not a reliable source (eg citation of T A Dodge's 19th century books; the section on the Cimbric war blatantly violates WP:CIRCULAR). Especially for featured articles, take care in assessing the reliability of claims that you add to articles; the best sources are modern academic sources written by professionals in classical studies.

Many articles also already have established citation styles. In this instance, it would be a bibliography and SFN-only style. Those styles should be retained and edits made consistent with them. Ifly6 (talk) 14:01, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. Copying Within - New Pages - July 2023

Hi there, and welcome to Wikipedia. It is good to have new and enthusiastic editors here, and you really are very welcome. However, in editing Wikipedia, you will find there is a lot to learn about how we do things, and I just want to bring something to your attention, so that you can better focus your edits.

As per DanCherek's message above, when we copy text from one page to another, it is very important that we keep the attribution to where the text was copied from. Please have a read of WP:COPYWITHIN for more details. Also, it is not a good idea to copy text from one page to create essentially the same article (or part of the article) but under a new title. These create redundant forks of the content. A redirect is sufficient to point to where the article may be found, if you think there is a better title for those.

How about getting some experience of actually editing the existing articles before attempting to create new versions of these. Editing the articles will be a great way to get to know the community and gain experience as you go.
