Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Sign your messages with four tildes (~~~~), be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Schloss Drachenburg

Re the architects plans: use of the past tense does not necessarily imply anything other than the fact they were drawn up in the past. The plans were subsequently modified by the new architect so use of the word initial is entirely proper. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 13:11, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey – I hope you are doing doing 😊 I just wanted to let you know that the MOS for the overlink states that A.) Repeated linking can occur in tables B.) Repeated linking can appear in lists where it can help the reader as the reader can sort the table

In the case of the "Days" cast list, I have linked Brady twice as he appears in 2 different tables, and someone may be only viewing the recurring section. Additionally, the tables aren't organised by character and thus readers can easily miss the link. Hence this is acceptable according to the MOS as it helps the reader 😊😊 DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 23:21, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the London Bridge Task Force

[edit]

Hello! You seem to have an interest in the recent death of Elizabeth II, so I wanted to invite to the WikiProject of Current Events new task force The London Bridge Task Force, which will be working on improving all the articles around the death of Elizabeth II. A task force is similar to a WikiProject, which is where you can communicate with other editors who all have the same goal, which is improving all the articles around a specific topic. I hope you consider joining! Elijahandskip (talk) 18:29, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use of present tense in Young & Restless storylines

[edit]

Please read what you have left in that paragraph by reverting my edit. It's a horrible mishmash of present and past tense verbs in the same sentences. If you want to make it all present tense, then be consistent and change all the verbs to present tense.Juve2000 (talk) 23:03, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Juve2000 At least now it's half right! Your way was completely wrong.Rose&Bernard (talk) 23:48, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you read the paragraph. The verbs are 90% past tense and 10% present tense. All I did was change the 10% that were wrongly in the present tense. You decided in your wisdom to revert my perfectly good edit (except for missing a 'his', which I do admit), and go back to that hideous mishmash. I would be embarrassed if I were you, but don't worry, I am not editing any soap opera page in the near future.Juve2000 (talk) 00:29, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Juve2000: Per MOS:INUNIVERSE, all fiction on Wikipedia should be present tense and it doesn't matter to me what you edit.Rose&Bernard (talk) 00:53, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Using a comma after "to" in date range

[edit]

Hi, I see you have changed date ranges in a lot of articles with an edit summary that says that there should be a comma after the first date in a date range when "to" is used. I've never heard of this rule, and I find no support for it in MOS:DATERANGE. It looks wrong to me. Can you point to a style guide that supports this? CodeTalker (talk) 04:32, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:CodeTalker: It's right there under MOS:DATE: "A comma follows the year unless other punctuation obviates it."Rose&Bernard (talk) 13:17, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's also this for further reading.Rose&Bernard (talk) 14:21, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Serial commas

[edit]

Hi. Listen, I know you're trying to help, but (contrary to what Serial comma used to say -- I fixed it) the serial comma is not somehow mandatory in American English. And, more importantly, Wikipedia's MOS:SERIAL guideline is intentionally neutral on the question unless lack of a comma would result in ambiguity. Going around and changing stylistic details like this to suit your personal taste is strongly frowned upon, and can get you in hot water very fast. I know that sounds extreme, but huge amounts of editor time have been wasted over the years in battles over trivial matters like this, so the overarching rule is not to change such stuff without very good reason -- see MOS:STYLERET. EEng 03:55, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

EEng: I wasn't changing anything to "suit my personal taste." LOL. Calm down. You said it yourself: Serial comma said to do it. Cheerio!Rose&Bernard (talk) 04:08, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You've learned the Most Important Lesson for Wikipedia Editors: WP isn't a reliable source. More seriously: you should consult wP:MOS for stylistic questions, not articles. EEng 04:42, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hotwiki is the worst person I've ever run across on wikipedia. He commandeers pages and won't take it to the talk page despite warning others of the same thing. I see he's already threatened you with the above. He will use his wikipedia experience to intimidate others. Watch, on here he'll warn me of colluding or whatever and state all this mumbo jumbo about policy, only because that's all he knows (Instead of actually have a discussion). This is a page on comics for god sake, that type of control is a joke.. I caught him in a serious instance of hypocrisy and his response was to report me. I really hope he chimes in here and takes the authoritarian approach. Hi Hotwiki! What do you have to say? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomahawk1221 (talkcontribs) 22:11, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have just noticed you have previously been advised that your username is against policy and you responded. Unfortunately, whatever the reasoning behind the choice, it still implies shared use so it is against policy: see WP:ISU, Personal usernames that imply shared access, such as "Jack and Jill", are not permitted. Regarding this edit summary, I just wanted to drop you a note saying that editors can edit whatever pages they want. Nobody has the right to act as though they are the owner of a particular article, so in future, do not say things such as "stop following me around". – Meena13:48, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
