JSTOR

[edit]

Hi there. You're one of the first 100 people to sign up for a free JSTOR account via the requests page. We're ready to start handing out accounts, if you'd still like one.

JSTOR will provide you access via an email invitation, so to get your account, please email me (swalling@wikimedia.org) with...

  • the subject line "JSTOR"
  • your English Wikipedia username
  • your preferred email address for a JSTOR account

The above information will be given to JSTOR to provide you with your account, but will otherwise remain private. Please do so by November 30th or drop me a message to say you don't want/need an account any longer. If you don't meet that deadline, we will assume you have lost interest, and will provide an account to the next person in the rather long waitlist.

Thank you! Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 21:21, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lenin book

[edit]

Hi! I notice you had asked for a book review of TheUnknown Lenin: Fromthe Secret Archive. Edited by Richard Pipes. One thing I've done is write Wikipedia articles on academic books with 2 or more book reviews, so the info about the book is seen easily by the public WhisperToMe (talk) 10:28, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, I have asked for that review as it seems in it Mr Lih points out some mistakes in professor Pipes book that may be relevant for the article on Lenin I will expand shortly and I wanted to check it.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 10:59, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good! It's good to document these things. I like to use the talk pages of books to show more issues. Example: Talk:Deng_Xiaoping_and_the_Making_of_Modern_China WhisperToMe (talk) 11:15, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In my case it is question of checking for errors to avoid adding them into the Lenin article. We will see if someone has access to the review, though...--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 11:43, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:SalidaDeLosCazadoresDeLaEstaciónDelNorte.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:28, 20 March 2019 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:28, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am afraid the sentence "the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work" is incorrect (same for the other files below). The description specifies the source of the painting (name, author and date when known). They have no copyright as the artists have been dead for more than 70 years.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 19:43, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Georgia map 1762-es.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Georgia map 1762-es.svg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:30, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Byzantine Macedonia 1045CE-es.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:24, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stop uploading Spanish maps on the English Wikipedia. They should be uploaded to Commons (or the Spanish Wikipedia). — JJMC89(T·C) 02:23, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No, I will not. I will upload the maps I please provided they meet the license requirements. If you want to transfer them to Commons, fine. Else, let them be. I will not upload any new files onto Commons until it changes a great deal. And I am sure you will find better things to do in Wikipedia than trying to have media removed and bothering other users.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 06:50, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Western front 1915-16-es.svg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:32, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you create a derivative work, if you show any creativity at all, then you should add yourself as an author. If it is an old work, you'll need to add your own license as well. Sorry and thanks for your contribution. Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:34, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Magog the Ogre:, OK, no problem, I will from now on. Regarding File:Western front 1915-16-es.svg, what is the problem exactly? It is the same map as this (same topic, same source) I just used the pdf version as a basis for the SVG instead of using the JPG one to avoid recreating everything from scratch (to speed up the process, basically)...--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 07:59, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The only way you can't claim any rights to a work are if you make a few cosmetic changes, like changing a few words or colors. This went well beyond that, so you need to add your own license. Magog the Ogre (tc) 22:49, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I did not mind leaving it as public domain, but I have changed the license to something else as per your suggestion...--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 22:56, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
File:Western Front 2 August 1914-es.svg still doesn't have a license for your changes. Could you please add one? Magog the Ogre (tc) 21:34, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I just changed it. I hope it is ok now.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 08:04, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Western Front 2 August 1914-es.svg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:41, 19 November 2019 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:41, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
