Thanks

Thank you very much for the Barnstar! - Packerfansam (talk) 1 August 2009

Thanks for fixing that up for me. I'm working on getting a photo so you can see what the restaurants looked like. :) Chili is a very important subject. Speaking of which, the newest thing in bacon is a 50/50 burger. Now you know. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:48, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Category:Unincorporated communities in Wisconsin-function override

Hi! Help! I was trying to get into the category:Unincorporated communities in Wisconsin and all I got was:'Function override' what ever that means.I wanted to check it out to see if there was new articles on unincorporated communities in Wisconsin. Thanks as always-RFD (talk) 11:51, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

That was fast-I am to it now thanks-RFD (talk) 11:54, 6 August 2009 (UTC)but what is function override?
I got that error message numerous times last night too. It worked when I hit the back button and redid whatever I was doing. Probably a bug somewhere or some server issues. Royalbroil 12:11, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Question

I recently nominated two articles at DYK: 1, 2, and as of now they are on the main page. I received DYK template for Sterlingville from you (through DYKadminBot), but not one for Little Applegate River. As I've never done a hook with two articles before, correct if I'm wrong, but don't I get two DYK recognition templates? Thanks, LittleMountain5 15:26, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

The bot apparently didn't give you correct crediting for the double-article hook. It's supposed to mention both articles in the same template, and I've fixed it on your talk page. JamieS93 be kind to newcomers 19:23, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Thanks! LittleMountain5 19:26, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Jamie! Royalbroil 00:05, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

A small favor

Greetings. I noticed that your signature [1] appeared along with credits for one of today’s DYK noms delivered by User:DYKadminBot through a dyktalk template to another user. Would you please do the same for me, and credit me for today’s double-nom: Church of St. Casimir the Prince,[2] with Churches of Kraków[3]? Thank you in advance. Your help is much appreciated. --Poeticbent talk 22:14, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Fixed Same issue as above. The bot apparently didn't do most of the credits that round. I've fixed it. Shubinator (talk) 00:16, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Shucks, missed fixing it myself by about 2 minutes! Thanks, Shubinator! Royalbroil 00:17, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Pete DePaolo

Hello, in the article that you wrote about Pete DePaolo, it says he was born in Roseland, New Jersey, but I found sources on the internet saying he was born in Philadelphia, among INDIANAPOLIS 500 WINNERS – BIRTHPLACES at indy.com and A century of Philadelphia sports at Google Books, do you have sources that say the opposite ? Kind regards --Ziyalistix (talk) 07:25, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

The source for Roseland is this one, which over the years has not proven to be very reliable. So I changed his birthplace per your sources. Thanks for bringing this up! Royalbroil 11:41, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Many thanks for the article-I knew there was a story behind the chapel-RFD (talk) 14:08, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Milwaukee Mile photos

Hey, I just uploaded a couple of pictures I thought you might want to see. File:Milwaukee-Mile Aug2009 grandstand.jpg and File:Milwaukee-Mile Aug2009 wall.jpg. Not sure if they're useful for articles at this time, but take a look. -Freekee (talk) 18:01, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

I looked a long time to get a decent picture of the SAFER barrier, and you uploaded one even cleaer! I added that image to the article. I went to the track in June and got TONS of pictures from everywhere as I had a pit pass. Check out this Commons category, and I'm not done uploading yet! I have pictures of every car. Thanks for giving me the heads up and for taking these photos! Royalbroil 21:46, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah, the SAFER Barrier. You'd asked me, quite some time ago, to get a shot, but I couldn't remember exactly what you wanted, or for which article. :-) I actually drove on the track. I couldn't go very fast, though, since it was a parking lot - literally. -Freekee (talk) 05:21, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Race (MI 2)

Hey, what do you think? I bet Johnson and Knaus are trying to figure out how to sneak an extra gallon of gas into the car for next year's trips to MI huh? ... LOL. How were the cherries?

I'll prolly get to Lernerville and maybe Motordrome speedway yet this year. I'd like to find a way to tie in a Nashville Superspeedway or Music City Motorplex with a wiki-meetup there in early Sept., but it's not looking promising at the moment. Would still like to catch one or two of the year end events up your way as well, but we'll see how it goes. Well, kind of a "Myspacey" post I know, hopefully the "get-a-blog police" won't be looking for me ... lol.  :-) Take care — Ched :  ?  00:23, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I didn't watch the NASCAR race, I miss most of them. I do love the road courses and I actually was with the NASCAR fan part of my family to watch the Watkins Glen race but it got rain delayed of course. I did hear a post-race interview, and Johnson said they are better off not playing the fuel gamble game because it doesn't work for them. I hope you can make it to the Music City Motorplex. I did a lot of work on that article and it always was a great place to watch a Busch Series race. In downtown Nashville, the Capitol building, and the Ryman Auditorium are AWESOME must-see places. No one watches my talk page, I'm not very interesting :P (tee hee!). I'm sure you'll get LOTS of pictures from the Music City Motorplex, so this is a productive response. Royalbroil 01:02, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey ... even if they did show up, they'd get lost in the DYK awards!  ;-) — Ched :  ?  01:18, 17 August 2009 (UTC) PS - I watch your page all the time, I might get a little jealous, but I learn a lot.
It was sarcasm, of course. I know that there are at least a half dozen people watching my talk page. I don't understand why you'd be jealous since my page isn't nearly as active as your page is. I suppose there's always something for all of us to learn from each other. Royalbroil 01:24, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Image to protect at Commons

Hey, Royalbroil: Could you please protect File:4_saisons_zone_centrale.jpg at Commons? It's in DYK queue 5, which hits the main page about 23 hours from now. Thanks! --Orlady (talk) 00:05, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey RB

Nope, I haven't given up, or abandoned the effort. I've dug up some sources and such to address the speed decrease in 71, and I'm working on it in my race sandbox. I'll try to get something posted in the next day or two with the proper refs. It's definitely come a long way - maybe sometime this weekend, or next week. I'm doing the best I can, but have been trying to help a few new users, and health issues haven't been the greatest the last week or so. Hope all is well with you, and I'll talk to you soon. Cheers and best. ;) — Ched :  ?  23:52, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I knew that you were working on it! I feel like the article is almost there, but there are a few loose ends. Take your time, we have as much time as we need. I want it to be done RIGHT and for both of us to be completely comfortable before we nominate it for FLC. This is the type of thing that you don't rush.
I just spent a whole evening doing a FA review on a FAC, so I'll probably ask for the author of that article to return the favor and give us a little help with a peer review on this list. Everything is fine with me and I hope and pray that things go better for you. Royalbroil 02:16, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
I just found a source that might be helpful to you about the engine restrictor plate rules since I've just begun David Pearson. Check out page 68 and 69 from this article in Popular Mechanics. Royalbroil 02:35, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

I just wanted to thank you for your comments on Rudolf Caracciola. If you ever need any help with articles you are working on, don't hesitate to let me know - I'm always happy to see motorsport articles (in particular) do well. (BTW, I crossed out your top support so it doesn't look like you supported twice, hope you don't mind). Cheers, Apterygial 23:54, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look. Seems like the last FAC was sunk by sourcing issues, which can often stop other reviewers from getting involved. My internet's fairly temperamental at the moment so I don't know when I'll be able to take a decent look at the article, but I should be able to give you a detailed review sometime in the next week. I can do the list too (though I'm not really up to scratch with the list criteria, so it could only be a prose review).
Regarding Caracciola, I think you could be an F1 expert and still have no idea about pre-war Grand Prix racing; I think a lot of people have no idea anything happened! I follow American racing to the extent that I watch quite a few NASCAR races (I'm still confused as to why they seem to have planned caution periods) but I'm a stranger to its history and people. Apterygial 11:15, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! The only time that they have planned cautions is when there are known tire issues before the race. People wonder if NASCAR throws out the caution when the race is getting boring because some times there is no apparent reason for the slow period. I hope the sourcing was addressed last time for Kulwicki; I'd appreciate if you'd look into that. It was very hard to deal with so many issues while the article was listed at FAC. I wasn't expecting sources to be reviewed so hard - so I learned a lesson. I'm too busy this time of the year; I wouldn't consider FAC until my life slows down in late northern hemisphere fall after at least 2 months. Royalbroil 11:41, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Sourcing at FAC is insane (and I think it should be). I found so much stuff for Caracciola that I couldn't use because the sourcing was iffy, which was why I ended up using so many books. I think preparation is the most important thing before FAC; your goal is to get as few comments as possible so as to draw in reviewers (which isn't to say extensive comments aren't useful or appreciated if they improve the article). I might have gone into Caracciola's FAC sooner than I would have liked because I want that main page spot which is only a few weeks away... Apterygial 11:53, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

As a supporting editor, could you please take a look at the outstanding source question and leave any thoughts you might have on it? Thanks. Apterygial 01:51, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Richard Henry Boyd

Thanks for assessing the subject article. I'm usually not terribly concerned with article assessments, but they can be a useful form of feedback, and it's a relief to know that your evaluation is in line with my own. --Orlady (talk) 16:31, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Yea, it is. RFD usually skips assessing article. He sure is an AWESOME Wikipedian! I learned soooo much from him when I was new here. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. Royalbroil 18:05, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

If you wouldn't mind ...

I added a paragraph to explain the speed reduction in 1971 for the Pole article. Would that be what YellowMonkey was looking for? — Ched :  ?  04:19, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Yea, I believe so. I was just looking around and I noticed what you've done to the article. It's too late for me to concentrate fully. I'll try to look at it tomorrow. I caught the end of tonight's Bristol race. It's always interesting at Bristol. Too bad there were so many cautions, I was getting bored. It was one commercial after another. Royalbroil 04:28, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
I feel the same. I'll double-check myself tomorrow as well, was kind of going through the motions there at the end. Worked in my sandbox, and tried to get it over to the article - but I suspect it needs some clean up. Talk to ya tomorrow. ;) — Ched :  ?  04:54, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I copyedited it. It could use a little more polishing. Let me know what you think. Royalbroil 18:10, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
VERY good! Thank you. I'll likely always struggle with WP:PEA writing here. So many years of "What a great race, and drastic change in ..." ... lol. I know we want to keep our copy interesting, but I find it very easy to drift into the "flowery" type of writing after so many years of writing blogs, and recaps, and .. and .. and. I think I'm getting better, but still a long way to go. I greatly appreciate your help, and I'll have another look ASAP. Thanks buddy, Cheers and best — Ched :  ?  01:07, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Glad to help, of course. I never was big on peacock words, so it was pretty easy for me to adapt. I went to Slinger Super Speedway on Sunday night - WOW! Bring out the PEACOCK words! I saved it for late season so I have something to look forward to. Think of Bristol Motor Speedway if it was shortened down to the world's fastest quarter mile. The world's fastest 1/4 mile lap literally was set there in a midget as I cited in the article. Then throw some Super late models on the track; they've not much horsepower than NASCAR - 12 second laps. My favorite part is the restarts watching the incredible acceleration on the backstretch. My video from 2008 which doesn't give it justice. Royalbroil 04:10, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

← SLINGER? ... very cool! Have only been there twice. It was the first place I ever saw Alan Kulwicki run, and his performance there was what made me such a huge fan of his. Got to go back a couple years after he died, and it's just always such great racing. Actually, that vid. you link to is in my favs. I think it's hard to depict some tracks with pics or vid. simply because they can't carry the flavor of the whole thing. Slinger is a GREAT track - glad you got to go!

Well, I went through and did what I could RB. Not really sure what comes next. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with on it. — Ched :  ?  20:00, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

WOW, let me know if you ever come back to Slinger, it's only an hour drive for me! Even if I would vanish send me an offline email. Lowell Bennett won and is leading the points; he raced in a few Busch races [4]. I've never got to see AK run in person, watched lots of Cup races of course. I first starting going to races in 1989 after watching tons of NASCAR / IndyCar / IROC/ etc races on TV. I didn't want to see a bunch of rednecks flip their car for a case of beer. Boy was I wrong. I went to my first races after my parents dragged me their kicking and screaming. They wanted me to get out more because I was so introverted (now I'm an extrovert). It was love at first sight! I was in love when I watched the cars packing the track before the races even started! These cars were a bunch of old beaters. Before the races, we would predict how many cars would start on fire that night! I don't think I missed a weeks races at that track for about 4 years until there was a the rehearsal for my sister's wedding. Now my parents complain that I go to too many races.
Are you satisfied that the list is done? If so, I'll do my final review and ask 1 or 2 other editors for a review before we propose it at FLC. Royalbroil 01:28, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I had hoped to get back up to WI and combine Slinger, with a chance to meet up with you personally as a race fan. Sadly, I'm doubtful that I can do that this year - but do want to get up there again. Personally, I never knew anything but races. My dad proposed to my mom in the parking lot of Heidelberg before a race. By the time I was 6 weeks old, I was being taken to the tracks. I could bore you with story after story - but anyway - yep, I love stock car racing. ;)
As far as the article goes, I've done everything that I know to do at this point. I read through the procedures at FLC a while back, and I suppose I could just "nom" it, but I've been content to follow your lead on this. That's always led me to learning, better understanding, and improved editing skill (hopefully) before - so I see no reason to cast off my mentor/teacher at this point. ;-). I'll start working on a couple DYK things I have in mind - keep an eye open for a GA to work on, and maybe if this works out - even think about trying a FA (don't know if you're interested in revisiting the AK for another shot or not).
To be honest RB, I choose this article to work on because it was on your list of things to get done (#5 at User:Royalbroil/ToDo). It was my way of showing my appreciation for all the time you've spent helping me along here. I do try my best here, and hopefully you're not too disappointed in my progress so far. I'm proud to say that you're my mentor, I hope to make you proud to say one day that "I taught him" .. lol. Hey - ball's in your court at the moment - let me know what shakes out. Cheers and best ;) — Ched :  ?  03:05, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm honored to have worked with you on this article! You've done an AWESOME job, now comes the nitty gritty. I think that you can see how getting a Good or Featured article is such a great accomplishment. They do get easier after you've done a few because you know the things to look out for. I'm sure we'll both learn something after it gets proposed. I did know that you decided to work on it because it was on my To Do list and I'm very happy to hear this. I'm definitely proud to have been able to mentor you through this process so that you have the experience to do it on your own after this at some point (if you choose to). I'm still thinking about AK for a second run at FA, but not until after this list is featured. I need to have some success under my belt first and a thumbs up from User:YellowMonkey on AK's article. I'm glad to see that I was able to come up with a great picture for Kulwicki ... that took a lot of effort. I even called Father Dale Grubba who was writing a book on Kulwicki and I asked him if he had a throwaway picture of Kulwicki for Wikipedia. He said he'd let me know but he never did. It all worked out. This week is very bad for me to get much accomplished - I'm booked every night between helping my brother move, races, and cutting 2 large lawns. Royalbroil 03:36, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh WOW .. that is just Twilight Zone freaky (the lawn). Both the guys that we get to do our lawn fell through, and I'm having to do the mowing and trim work over a couple days time here. We keep about 5-7 acres mowed, and between my age and my health - I just can't do it in a day anymore - plus I do have jobs to do too. I'm in no rush for anything - if a few folks look over the article in the next week or so, that's great. Maybe it's best to wait a week or two to nom it? Whatever you think is best. I have to admit, I really enjoy collaborating with you on stuff. I've done work on other articles, and when people just start bickering about things instead of trying to work together, I just say "forget it" and leave. That's why I keep coming back to race stuff. Everyone works together to develop "better" articles. ;). If you do decide down the road to take another shot at the AK article, feel free to let me know - I'm in! Maybe later this fall or something? Anyway, keep on racing .. see ya at the track somewhere .. lol. OHHHH ... wait ... that Haggerstown article, ... is that the one in Maryland? I might be able to help with that one too. Good luck with the move (I hate moving myself ... lol). Cheers. — Ched :  ?  04:09, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

DYK question

I'm thinking of putting 1966 Daytona 500 up for DYK. I'm not sure what tools you guys use to measure "1,500" or 5x expansion. Do you count words, letters, doc size? Let me know if you think it would meet the qualifications - I might do a companion piece for 1966 in NASCAR down the road if it merits it. — Ched :  ?  17:16, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

The expansion on 1966 Daytona 500 checks out with DYKcheck. Shubinator (talk) 23:46, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
There you go! I DYKcheck counts 3100 characters, more the double the minimum. Royalbroil 01:58, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I submitted, but the "hook" is pretty crappy in the way it's worded - I asked a friend for some help to tweak it. Hopefully I can tweak it in the DYK nom after his suggestion. — Ched :  ?  05:26, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Malone, WI photo

I had taken this photo myself back in May, 2009. I wasn't sure which copyright tag would've fit, as it is not copyrighted, but I didn't want people stealing the image. The main reason for it's upload was to show the large grain elevator near the center of the town.

If you don't believe me, should I upload a different photo of it? I took a photo of it back in December, too. --JustInn014 (talk) 20:24, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

I added a copyright tag to the photo's page. I think it should be okay now. --JustInn014 (talk) 02:11, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Re:Mark martin GA

Hey Royal,

Thanks for the note. I figured it would be a good GA, but defiantly not a FA for a very very long time. I might leave the the nomination in just to get some more feedback on the article. All criticism is constructive to a certain degree. I will defiantly watch that article to see how it progresses. I still plan to work on the article while people review it. I plan to add a bunch of sources I found to the article later today. Thanks again!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 14:31, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Update

this is where I'm at on the article. Who should I be talking to next? ;) — Ched :  ?  13:19, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

I do know another person who might be willing to glance through it, he does mostly FA work, but he might be willing to take a look. Malleus Fatuorum‎‎, he can be rather blunt, but he knows his way around FA. If you know the answers to the remaining things on the talk page though ... I'm comfortable going with your judgment. Also, I left a note on your Sandbox (Pearson) talk page. Let me know anything you can think of that might help. Cheers and best. ;) — Ched :  ?  13:37, 5 September 2009 (UTC) ... OH YEA ... I almost forgot - thanks for converting that list into a table on my last DYK ... appreciate the help ;) — Ched :  ?  13:40, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome about the table. This weekend is very bad. I have a lot of family over for today. Tomorrow I'm gone all day between driving and watching the Off-road World Championships at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. Check out the action of the main trophy race live on ABC TV late afternoon and watch for me in the crowd! I do see concerns with the references and it's a very good point that I should have thought about. The flag should definitely be removed. The driver's home state doesn't belong. Royalbroil 18:44, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
AWESOME racing at Crandon, especially with live national network tv running, but the atmosphere is even better! Soooooo friendly for Wisconsinites! It was great to see Jack Flannery accept his Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame induction, even better in his hometown. Last year the said he has cancer, good to see him kicking. I was very happy to use their induction statement to give him the article that he has earned. In the pits, took pictures of trucks and a few drivers, glad to see that one turned out. I didn't realize until I got home that it was a killer picture of Jeremy McGrath that belonged in an encyclopedia which was missing one! Happy day! I got pictures while driving there, plus a bunch on a road trip on the following day. I'll try to work on the list. Lots to do! Royalbroil 00:11, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Glad to hear that everything went so well for you. ;) — Ched :  ?  01:40, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

For lack of a better place to comment (and this is completely non-Wiki related), and I think enough time has passed, what is the deal with safety car rules in NASCAR? I was watching the race in Montreal, in the wet, the safety car pulls in, everyone bunches up real close, two across, then go. They are so close, in fact, that many crash in the next few corners, safety car comes out again. Completely stupid. Aussie Ambrose must have won that race ten times over, only to lose it on the last corner(!). Just needed to get that out. Maybe you two can explain it to me. Apterygial 12:52, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and you've done a great job with the article, and you are probably pretty close to being able to give FLC a shot. Apterygial 12:54, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
<TPS notice>. I think I know what you mean about the safety car (or "Pace car" in NASCAR). Bunching up the drivers can certainly make things ... ah..interesting, after a caution. I'm not sure about the FLC, I rather got the impression from RB that there is a long way to go as far as the sources.  :-( — Ched :  ?  21:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
It's fine if you talk page stalk! I don't watch many NASCAR races anymore. It is interesting to watch the restarts with the bunch up behind the pace car. I've already watches races at a local track (back when some local tracks had a pace car), and the track once announced that the pace car had done more distance that the scheduled distance of the race! Ambrose sure is a great racer-being able to come to another country in a different type of car and be able to be so successful. I'm more impressed with his abilities than Juan Pablo Montoya.
Actually, I think that the featured list is almost ready for FLC - it's on the backstretch of the final lap. Check out my content from the past year, almost everything uses these highly reliable sources! I should have told you up front to use highly reliable sources but it didn't come to my mind. I'm going to try to help work on it. Royalbroil 23:12, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Question about Dirt_track_racing undo

Instead of just deleting my contributions, can we create a section that we can list local and private clubs? Would that be a heading you would be happy with. I feel it is beneficial to let people know there is more out there than just the national bodies. GSMS has been around for 25 years and has their own rule book, so I figured they would be their own sanctioning body. Though, after re-reading the intro, I can understand your point. If I were able to find local information years ago, I would have started running a Mini Sprint sooner. I want to help more people like myself who may be looking for local clubs they can get involved in...... After reviewing the Midget Car Racing page, "NEMA - NorthEastern Midget Association" is listed under United States Sanctioning bodies. Knowing that NEMA is it's own club just as GSMS I feel that you are wrong to exclude any body, be it national or not, from being listed when they have their own rule book. - Eracer55 (talk) 8 September 2009 —Preceding undated comment added 02:42, 9 September 2009 (UTC).

The date is done automatically as long as you sign. I see that you haven't been signing. You really should, and you can sign by typing in four tildes ~~~~, which can be found usually in the upper left by the #1 key. Dates in Wikipedia are done by UTC (Universal Time), which is the time in Greenwich, England.
As for local sanctioning bodies - think about how many local sanctioning bodies there are in the world! I see having links for regional touring series like NEMA, but not the rules for one track. I know of at least 2 mini sprint sanctioning just in my locale. Why give undue weight to just 3 mini sprint rules books where there are thousands of sanctioning bodies for various types of dirt track racing. Wikipedia doesn't exist to add a link to every instance of something on a topic. It exists to be an encyclopedia about topics, not a collection of statistics or huge databases like you are proposing. They falls under WP:TRIVIA. What I'm trying to summarize is the external links guidelines. I kept mini sprints in the list of dirt track racing vehicles types - that's a great addition to the article. I didn't know that the mini sprint article existed! Royalbroil 03:11, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I added your sanctioning body to the mini sprint article since it's a regional touring series for mini sprints. The only external links in the dirt track racing article should be selected very carefully; this link doesn't belong there. Royalbroil 03:28, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

DYK

1966 in NASCAR ... I think I got it submitted with about 10 min. to spare, but it still needs more expansion. I didn't add the pic to the DYK because I figured you'd be using it for the Pearson article. I'm not sure I got it in the right place though - I think that maybe I should have put it down in the Sept. 5 area. If you wouldn't mind taking a look, I'd appreciate it. I'll try to get it improved a bit before it actually hits the front page, but the last one I submitted went live awfully fast .. lol. Cheers. — Ched :  ?  01:35, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Actually, you should have nominated the article earlier if you're going by the new article criteria. You should be okay, however, the article was expanded 5x since Sept 5th. So you need to move the nomination to the date that the 5x began, which was Sept 5th. The article was moved from userspace on August 29th, so it has expired as a new article nomination. Definitely suggest the image, an image can appear twice so I'm not worried about it for David Pearson! I would have worked on the Daytona 500 polesitter article all last night, but my #$)(&*internet connection went away at 7:30. I'm here to work on it now for as long as it lasts. My connection has been completely unacceptable for the last few months. I wish I had another option for internet service. Royalbroil 02:12, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Ahhhh ... ok. I knew it wasn't a "new" article, I just did the stub back when we decided to get rid of red links in the pole article. Then after I did the 1966 Daytona one - I thought I'd try to get the 1966 season as a companion one .. tee hee hee. I haven't had a lot of time to work on the pole stuff either - my best buddy called at 1 in the morning the other night. His ex-wife (who he still loved) had shot herself in the head, and it was the first time in 25+ years I ever heard the man cry. I didn't know what to say - he helped me raise my daughter (I was a single dad), and even though he now lives 1200 miles away, we still stay in touch. I will get back to the list, and I did leave a note on the talk page. I also found a Pearson link I thought might be of use, and left it on your sandbox page. I'll go move the 1966 DYK down to the 5th (if someone hasn't done it already), then add the pic too. Thanks for the tips, and sorry you're having problems with the net connections. ;-( — Ched :  ?  02:25, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Wow, it's good that he has a close friend to talk with! Usually just being there for a friend is all that matters. Good job with the 1966 article - it looks good to go. I've taken care of a few references for the Daytona 500 polesitters. I did see the Pearson link, but I'm not going to use it since I don't think it would pass Featured Article review as a reliable source. Something like that is a great way to find out information that you can usually find in a reliable source when you dig. Royalbroil 02:36, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Question about de-linking

Some recent edits with AWB (some examples - Article One (band) 30/07/2009, Manic Drive‎ 06/09/2009, Kiros (band) 10/09/2009) have de-linked GMA Canada Covenant Awards and the Juno Awards in a header. Is there a particular policy regarding links in section headers or is this someone boldly de-linking? If the former, svp provide the ref. The articles in question don't refer to the awards in the text so those edits appear wanton. Petersent (talk) 04:32, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

You've asked a good question! It's not bold, it's part of the manual of style - see WP:MOSHEAD. What you should do is wikilink on the next instance in the article, preferable at the start of that section. I'd add an unnecessary duplicate of these words in the article to make the wikilink. These are definitely important awards that need to be wikilinked in the text. Royalbroil 04:41, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Hum - seems cumbersome to add all that text, but short of adding a sentence or two to the artist's career or history section at least a do-able solution. A quicker fix would be to change the subheaders into a list of awards, and restore the links. There appear to be no objections to the use of wikilinks in lists. See e.g. implementation at the pages referred to previously. And thanks for the ref. Petersent (talk) 02:40, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
That's another way to do it - looks good to me! You're welcome. Royalbroil 12:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Commons images

Would you delete File:Peterson-dumesnil house.jpg, File:Russmore louisville 1.jpg and File:Russmore louisville 2.jpg, please? They're taken from NRHP nomination forms that are noted on their image description pages, and as you can read here, most photos (including these) from nomination forms are private creations, not works of the federal government. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 14:25, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

It's not necessarily a clear and obvious copyright violation, so I don't think that speedy criteria applies. Please start a deletion discussion at Commons. I'll give my opinion for getting them deleted. I know it takes forever! ;| —Preceding unsigned comment added by Royalbroil (talkcontribs)
How isn't it clear? Taken from a document that's not USGov, not PD-old, and no evidence of free license. At any rate, I've started the deletion discussions for all three; see here. Nyttend (talk) 01:19, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
HEY ... HEY .... RB forgot to sign an edit .... I got him! I knew someday he'd make a mistake! ... GOTCHA! LMAO. ;~) — Ched :  ?  02:57, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Tee hee - First time for everything! Actually, it has happened a several times before. Nyttend, I take a conservative approach - if I think there's a chance that it's controversial then I won't do the deletion. I won't argue if someone else speedy deletes it. Royalbroil 05:44, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

← (thread jack) .. Ahhh ... you noticed that eh? Don't miss much do ya? ;-) — Ched :  ?  01:30, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Tee hee! For some reason I checked your talk page and saw the DYK notification. Please add your DYK to WP:NASCAR's DYK section! It's unusual right now, my internet is actually working! The other unusual thing is that I'm watching the Cup race! Double duty, listening to the Cup race while editing the Wiki. I'm going to work on the Daytona 500 polesitters list for as long as my connection permits (or if it gets too late in my time zone). So far I've replaced all of the less-reliably sourced statements with content found at nascar.com. Royalbroil 01:55, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, hopefully you don't regret me getting involved in the NASCAR project. I'd like to think that I've come a long way, and that I'm adding something positive to WP and the nascar project. I really appreciate your help with the pole article, and I hope it all goes well in the end. I'll try to remember to list the stuff at the project in the future. Glad you ISP is working. ;) — Ched :  ?  03:35, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Now you got me puzzled! Why would I regret your help? You've worked on some pretty important topics! You have come a long way as an editor. When I started working with you, you had decent editing skills. Now you've seen how to work an article to Good and possibly featured status! ...the importance of using highly reliable sources. I'm surprised that my internet worked all night. The Chase for the Cup turned out to be interesting, except former local driver Matt Kenseth fell 2 spots to out of the Chase. I watched him totally dominate several features when he was a local driver at Wisconsin International Raceway. In the 30 lap feature, he'd pass the field in about 5 laps. I thought he'd get kicked when he started racing against the guys on TV, but he ended up beating them to win the 2003 Cup. Royalbroil 03:52, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Been a very rough week RB. It started bad because a friend of mine lost a lot, and this morning I had to have one of my dogs put down, and brought her home and buried her. I guess it's kinda made me a bit reflective, and my edits here haven't been as up to par as usual. I look back at my early work, and I know I've gotten better, but I also know there is much more to learn.
Kenseth is simply AWSOME! I've only been to WIR 3 times, mostly for ASA events. Wish the banking was a little higher, but a beautiful track. I enjoyed watching him run before he even got to NASCAR level... hell of a guy! So laid back, so cool, so professional. — Ched :  ?  04:33, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
You should be holding your head up high. You've gained SOOOO much! It's almost at the point where I won't be able to teach you much, because you're just about at my level! The main thing to do is concentrate on using only the highest quality sources, which is something you learned recently. The word choices and style are not teachable, they come from within. As for the bad week, at least this week couldn't be much worse! Things can only get better.
It's interesting to hear that you've been to WIR, too. I suspected that Slinger, Madison, Lake Geneva Raceway, and WIR were the tracks that would more likely be known nationally, which is why I wrote articles for them instead of other local tracks. I plan to go to LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway at their Oktoberfest on the second weekend of October and write an article for it too because it held ASA races and is a local NASCAR weekly track. Maybe I'll write articles some day for the local tracks that have held national off-road racing events in SODA or CORR. Royalbroil 12:06, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Where are we?

Hey RB, sorry I've been distracted by r/l lately, hope to get back to speed by middle or end of the week. Looking at the pole article, it looks like we have to address about 10 refs? ... Is that about right? I think I can make the case for racing-reference since both ESPN and NASCAR.com are using their material to populate their own pages. HowStuffWorks, I'd think might be OK, I read an article in the Wall Street Journal about them and how they are organized and such, ... I think their editors are reviewed after they submit stuff ... but I'll look a little further into that. Orato I'm not sure about, I skimmed their "About us" page, and got the impression that they go through a review process, but I'll check into it a bit further when time permits. At least a half dozen or so of the remaining onces look like they'll have to be replaced by a higher quality ref though. (and I do thank you for all your work on that end of things). I'll see what I can find when I get back up to speed. Quick question, is it OK with you if I reformat your reflist on the talk page to be numbers instead of bullets? It would make it easier for me to go through and check things off. Thanks, and hope all is well on your end, Best. — Ched :  ?  11:11, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Of course you can format the list! I was going through the refs one by one and replacing them with information found at nascar.com using google's advance searching capabilities. You will of course need proof that racing reference is being used by nascar.com/espn and some of your other assertions. I count 10 questionable references left. Royalbroil 12:04, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
OK, trying to get back into the swing of things here. As far as racing-reference goes, I started a page at User:Ched Davis/racing-reference which I had originally intended as a sandbox for an article. After some research though, I'm not sure that it would meet WP:N or WP:WEB, so I'm just going to use it to list and support various racing references that I think should meet our high-end reference standards. I've got the links to ESPN and nascar.com on it now. I'll prolly add orato and HowStuffWorks info there in the future. Getting back to the pole article - I might have found a good resource at: this book. Pages 75-77 cover a lot of the changes through those years, and it's a solid bookmark for me for future reference. Hope all is going well for you, and I'll get back to the pole article very soon. Cheers and best my friend. ;) — Ched :  ?  17:13, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Good idea, let's leave in Racing Reference as a source and attempt to set a precedent about it as a reliable source. We can always go away from it. I don't see how orato and howstuffworks are reliable, please prove it somehow. Thinks are going well, my friend! Still busy with summer, harvesting garden, catching race - now special events. 29 tracks now, next new track will tie my record. I might make as many as 4 more tracks yet, should be a minimum of 2 weather permitting. Royalbroil 02:27, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

←By the way, I did want to let you know what I've been doing, and what I have as long range plans. I dug up a ref for NASCAR Manufacturers' Championship, and also started adding the tid-bits to the individual years. As you know, I want to get the 19?? in NASCAR stuff done, many of which are DYK worthy. Too bad we can't use what DocIndy has in his head as a wp:rs ... lol. I think that man knows more about NASCAR than I could ever hope to learn! I like his NASCAR lore article, and might see if he'd mind if I worked on that a bit. In the long run, there are 2 articles that I'd love to get going: NASCAR safety and NASCAR history, both of which I think there are resources to be had to make them GA material down the road. I did notice the NASCAR rules and regulations article too .. hmmm .... not bad. Watchlisted. RB, the only reason that I'm telling you all this is because you kinda supervise the whole NASCAR project... well, maybe not "supervise", but perhaps "organize" is a better word. I got the impression from your kind words above that you noticed that my most recent DYK noms are much higher quality than my first one ... that made me smile with pride. Don't underestimate yourself though, you have a TON of things buried in that mind of yours to teach me yet. ;).

Some bad news (at least to me). I won't be able to get up to WI this fall as I had hoped. Finances, and circumstances just aren't going to permit it this year. However, I've been going over some stuff, and it may be that I'll opt-in to a purchase with my mom of a small mini-home early next year so that we can travel a bit more again. We're down to 4 dogs now, so it might be that a 3 or 4 day weekend, or even a week vacation would be doable if we had that available to us. She had kind of lost interest in a lot of the race stuff, but my talk and Mark Martin's year (she's liked him since he was a young teen), has kinda rekindled her interest. I could go on my own, but I do feel uncomfortable leaving her behind at her age and all alone. The farm is just too much for her to handle on her own, and while I'm not as young and valuable as I once was - I'm better than nothing .. lol. Well, didn't mean to bore you with my personal drivel, but once I get to blabbing with my friends, sometimes I just don't know when to shut up .. lol. All my best. — Ched :  ?  17:40, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

It would be best if we can finish the Daytona 500 poles article first, though! I'm definitely not the head at WP:NASCAR - I think I'm the last one standing of the people that built most of the articles! Take pride in what you've accomplished and learned - I'm smiling about it too.
I didn't know that you were thinking about coming to WI. Cool! I don't remember when Mark Martin raced in WI for a year but I've read he was great. Cheers! Royalbroil 02:27, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

re: Campus names

You're absolutely right about seeking consensus first. I apologize for the breach of protocol, and for being presumptuous and unintentionally disruptive. I'll take it to WP-Wisconsin before continuing. Sincerely, Kevin Forsyth (talk) 12:34, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, but it appears to be a subject close to the heart of someone, who reverted the edit with the reasoning that the "subject of CNN story and 3rd most blogged event isn't 'bloated'". Patience is a virtue ... --Sift&Winnow 04:40, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Medford, Wisconsin conflict of interest

I reverted an editor who wrote about health care on the Medford, Wisconsin article because of COI. You reverted the same editor yourself on that issue. Now, the editor is back. What now? Thanks-RFD (talk) 18:03, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't mind the brief mention that there's a hospital/clinic in the community. It's written in a much better tone than what I edited. Royalbroil 12:07, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks- However, an anon edit edited it out-RFD (talk) 13:37, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

sources

Hey RB. I asked about the HowStuffWorks here, and what I came away with was that basically it was ok to get an article started, but as the article gets better - I should try to find additional/better sources. I think there are still one or two HSW refs that don't have a better backup - so I'll try to find those today or tomorrow and put them in as well. I also asked on IRC, and again, it was "it's probably ok for non-contentious material ... ok for stubs, DYK, or even C/B class, but could get shot down in any audited content beyond that. I'll try to get it done by the time you get home tonight, but if not, I'll work on finding them this evening. Thanks for the kind words to <big smiles from me>. Newspaper source needed

I remember someone telling me about a website where you can search newspapers. Was this any of my talk page stalkers? Please let me know! I've hit a wall searching for a reliable source on some content for a FL article I'm working on. Royalbroil 11:51, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Hadn't thought of that! ... hmmm ... ouch... too expensive, but maybe: this will help. I'll check it out too later today. — Ched :  ?  11:58, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
  • DA.. Daggoneit!!! I can't find anything to justify either Kim Roberson, or Insider Racing News. AGGGRRRR ... good reading too. Crap!. I'll see what I can dig up in the news archives for those 3 refs. ... sigh ... Sorry this is taking so long. — Ched :  ?  14:25, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
  • Probably not sufficient for what you're looking for, but the Google Books search engine also includes some newspapers. I've used it before, and it's pretty good sometimes. JamieS93 14:29, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Online newspapers

NewspaperArchive.com can be accessed through BadgerLink with a Wisconsin library card. It has historical newspapers, so you might want to browse the locality first to see if the time period you're interested in is covered. Other websites with free historical newspapers or links to them:

Good luck! --Sift&Winnow 16:46, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank all 3 of you for your answers! I'm sure that several of them will come in handy! I bet Ched will add some of them to his resources list! Royalbroil 04:45, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Wow, Badgerlink is excellent! I'm glad my IP is registered as being in Wisconsin so I can access it! Still haven't found what I'm looking for - yet. Royalbroil 13:47, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
You mean you don't have a library card?? Tsk, tsk! --Sift&Winnow 14:18, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
I have several library cards; I just didn't need them since my ISP is on the list of allowed IP addresses! Royalbroil
I used my library card and got into Badgerlink with no problems-Thanks Sift for letting us know-RFD (talk) 14:41, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Only Lexis/Nexis, Proquest, and NewspaperArchive are fee services. The rest are free. --Sift&Winnow 02:20, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
  • RB, where's that page where we list the books we have? I just picked up a few more tonight. — Ched :  ?  21:46, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I went out and bought 5 NASCAR books ... give me some more time, and I'll try to make the article better. — Ched :  ?  04:12, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
We have all the time that you and/or I need! We both need to be completely comfortable with the end result before I'll want to propose it! I'd love to save some time to work on David Pearson. I'm starting to stack up ideas for new articles that definitely deserve DYK. For example, today I went to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America. Royalbroil 04:18, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
  • I added my books to the NASCAR library page - also - I've done what I could with the article. See my re: to you, and a section on what I've done here. Let me know what's next. — Ched :  ?  02:59, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Request for mediation-type assistance

Hi, Royalbroil. Given your history of involvement with both NRHP topics and general geographic articles, I think you might be a good candidate to step in at Poquetanuck (which probably should be renamed to "Poquetanuck, Connecticut," but that's the least of our worries right now) and Talk:Poquetanuck to help mediate (between Doncram and me). Acroterion has been playing mediator between us, but he's away for now, and things are rapidly getting weird. Can you help, or would you prefer that I find someone else? --Orlady (talk) 00:05, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I've never got involved with mediation type things - It's not one of my talents or interests. I've always avoid drama. Besides, I'm gone all weekend, just popping in right now. I may do a quick comment before I have to leave for the day. My talk page sure is busy for someone who's "gone"! Royalbroil 11:37, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I can relate to your lack of interest in this sort of thing. --Orlady (talk) 15:11, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

I am giving some thought to slowing my contributions to Wikipedia. Part of the reason is my health and other things going on in my life. Another reason is that I felt I reach my peak and feel others should take over. I manage to start articles for most of the Apostle Islands and the Roman Catholic diocesan bishops within Wisconsin's 5 dioceses. One article I take pride in starting was that of John Catlin who was acting Governor of Wisconsin. This was an example of the quirkiness in Wisconsin's history. The third reason is the Wikipedia internal politics the WikiDrama. I am getting turn off when I read about the scandal with the Arbrition Committee and the sockpuppet. You try to respect the rules and the etiquette and this happen. Also I got badly burnt in supporting an editor for administrator. This editor did alot for the history end of Wikipedia especially the Latter Day Saints including Wisconsin. Unfortunately this editor was exposed as a sockpuppet of pretty closed to it and the editor left Wikipedia suddenly. However, I do not regret supporting User:OrangeMike and yourself for administrator. I did this before this all happen. You and OrangeMike are doing an excellent job. At one point I was going to support:User:Orlady for administrator but could not do it because of happen to the last administrator I supported and the sockpuppet allegation that follow. This is the first time I express my opinions feelings on lot of this-Thanks again-RFD (talk) 12:50, 8 October 2009 (UTC) PS-Since this is public knowledge third editor that I supported for administrator and there was talk of being a sockpuppet was User:Snocrates-Again my thanks-RFD (talk) 12:55, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Still another article I took pride in starting was:John Allen Wakefield who wrote an account about the Black Hawk War of 1832. RFD (talk) 13:23, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I was a strong supporter of User:Archtransit so I had the wool pulled over my eyes once too by someone. It happens to the best of us. There isn't much you can do about it. I didn't let that situation slow me down, I always thought that I had good judgment. So don't let one problem slow you down. I hope that people that supported this problem admin can look past it too because they bring a lot to Wikipedia. Occasional judgment errors are human, and people look back on a situation with 20/20 vision. I keep struggling with finding time for Wikipedia now that I'm working out full time. Whatever you decide, you know that you've done SO MUCH here that impacts the whole English speaking world. We all have a legacy that we'll leave behind. I've always respected you and I wish that you had become an admin because you have what it takes with your excellent communication abilities. I would nominate you in a second, but you won't even let me give you rollback. Royalbroil 22:43, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey RB, how's things going here? Sorry I've been away for a bit, I've been on the road - and to be honest, I needed a break from the wiki. Where are we on this article. I just did a brief skim-through of the article and talk page. IIRC, there was something about the "second round qualify" vs. "top 35" that we wanted to flesh-out on the article, but I don't remember the details or links. I'm home now, so let me know if there's anything that I can do to move things along - or where we are on the whole deal. Other than that, I'll get back to work on some of the red-link "19xx in NASCAR" articles, and maybe a couple DYK things. Will start on Dale Earnhardt too here sometime in Nov. hopefully. Any others that you'd like to see some work done on? Hope to talk to ya soon buddy, hope all is well. — Ched :  ?  16:03, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

All is well with me! I hope it is with you too. My internet is not well, down probably 75% of the time I want to use it. I wrote a bitchy letter, got 2 months free internet. Of course, 2 months of horrible connection doesn't help me much. That's why I'm not on here much - barely have time to check email a lot of the time. I did work on my David Pearson sandbox article all last night from my book reference - finally made progress on something. I need to create sections for how the qualifying was done before and after the Top 35 rule went into effect. You have done the before section. Next we somehow need to find time to use the great Jayski explanation about how it works. Otherwise the article is in good shape. I did some research - the 2 main NASCAR biographies that readers check out are Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty so they are the best thing to focus on since you are asking. I'll try to find some library references for Pearson so I have something to do when my internet is down. Royalbroil 21:58, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Warnings

If a drive-by commits one vandalism, or two or three in quick succession, I don't bother warning them, on the grounds it might just encourage them to do more. I'm not an admin, so I can't RBI, but I can at least RI. If they do it again, then I tell them to stop. If they don't stop, they go to AIV, and then they get stopped. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:35, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look at it, but a few questions first. The list articles that I'm familiar with consist largely of a list, with only a cursory introduction. How is it that this article has both content and a list? Is there a reason there's no article on Daytona 500 qualifying procedures, or why the qualifying procedures aren't in the Daytona 500 article, with a cross-reference to the list? Just wondering. --Sift&Winnow 02:44, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, good point. I'll discuss with my cohort who's been working on this list article with me. Please delay the review until we discuss and edit. Royalbroil 03:00, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Comments

Too late. Hopefully you can use this whatever you decide to do.

I think it still needs a little work. As it's really more a matter of organization than of wording, I'm just listing my comments, rather than doing much editing to the article. The comments below are about how to modify things, not suggestions about specific wording.

Lead
Par. 1 - Order of sentences makes it a little hard to follow. Better order might be:

  • Pole position winners are those who win the qualifying event.
  • The qualifying event consists of yada yada.
  • The term "pole position" originates in horse racing.
  • It applies to auto racing because the winners of the qualifying event are awarded with the top starting positions.
  • The remaining entrants are selected by ... describe process here...

Par. 2 - sentence order again makes it difficult to follow. How about this?

  • Daytona 500 began in 1959... (from first par.) and is first in NASCAR season (when??)
  • The qualifying races for the 500 have been called ... (Why these names??)
  • As a result of Bobby Allison's accident in 1987, cars are now required to have modifications to slow their speed in the qualifier.
  • The fastest qualifying time on record was in 1987...

Procedure
Par 1:
made one edit; undo it if you like
What does "locked in to these starting positions" mean?

Par 2:
Tense flip-flopped in the paragraph, so I tried to make it consistent.

Par 3:
How do the Gatorade races fit in with the D500? It's unclear to me.
Did some copyediting.

Par 4:
"The top 35 drivers, plus two non-top 35 drivers from each qualifier..."
Does this refer to the Gatorade qualifier?

the "Coors Light Pole"
Is that the two-lap qualifier mentioned in the lead, or the Gatorade qualifier, or what? I'm confused.

Minor changes made.

History
Par 1:
"Shorty Rollins won the 100-mile Convertible race to become the track's first winner."
Winner of what? Of the first race on the track? Of the first qualifying race on the track? Of the first Convertible qualifying race? Of the first Daytona 500 qualifier?

"When the green flag was thrown on the first Daytona 500, 59 cars raced to the starting line; the event was held without a caution period during the entire race."
While this may be relevant to an article on the D500 itself, is it relevant to one on the pole position winners?

"In 1960, the last chance race was eliminated..."
Again, I'm lost. What's the last chance race?

"Prior to 1971, the qualifying races yielded points to the drivers' championship."
Does that mean that after 1971 this was no longer true?

Par 2:
Is "superspeedway" really one word?

Who's Bill France?

Were the NASCAR-imposed limits for the entire season, or just for qualifying events? If the former, does it belong in an article on one race's pole winners?

Par 5:
Aren't the first three sentences redundant? Couldn't they be combined and shortened?

Table
The numbers in parentheses after drivers' names aren't identified. I figured out that they represent the number of times the driver won the pole position. Could you (1.) eliminate them because they're listed in bullets below; or (2.) put them in a separate column (but then the Statistics - Multiple winners section would be duplicate information.)?

Table notes - Could you make these footnotes to the table, so that the event years in question have a superscripted number that is noted below? Here's a table that shows what I mean.

Many thanks for the photos you took. They are beautiful.I am glad you added the photo to the Gideon Hixon article that I started. Willbe gone starting today about north to Delta, Wisconsin.Back on All Saints Day. Thanks again-RFD (talk) 10:33, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

I wish I could come with you - I LOVE the Ashland/Bayfield area! It's been too many years since I've been there. Have a great trip! Too bad you don't take photos, that area really needs to be photographed. Thanks for the kind comments about my photos. I have dozens more to add from my La Crosse trip. Sure, I did. Consensus had been reached. Royalbroil 23:05, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Cut and paste

I noticed that you cut and pasted my comments re: List of Daytona 500 pole position winners to the article's talk page. Although I realize that the comments I posted on your talk page can be read by the public, they really weren't intended for the public of the Daytona 500 pole position article. In the future, could you please ask before you do something like that? Thanks! --Sift&Winnow 16:06, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

That's likely my fault S&W. I've been pushing RB for input on this article for a while now. My apologies. — Ched :  ?  16:19, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
My apologies! I thought I was real specific in my request stating that I wanted a section on the article's talk page so I was confused why you had put them on my talk page. I thought the intention of the comments were to improve the article and I guessed they were accidentally misplaced. I have undone my overstep. Royalbroil 17:16, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
I'll admit - it caught me a bit off guard as well. Not really sure what to think at this point. — Ched :  ?  17:41, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

I apparently misread your request to put the comments on the article's talk page. I would have written them in a more formal style if I had known they were going there. I was used to just sending the comments you as I have in the past. Sorry. No harm, no foul. --Sift&Winnow 18:29, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

I think that the tone is fine, but it's not a big deal - nothing worry about. I'll just keep the comments here on my talk page because I don't want you to be uncomfortable. I'm happy to hear that everything's fine because I REALLY appreciate your thorough proofreading abilities! Peer reviews like I requested are almost always done on the article's talk page because they are improvement commentary specific to the article. Royalbroil 03:29, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Okee, Wisconsin

Do you have any photos of Okee, Wisconsin in Columbia County in the town of Lodi? Okee is the eastern terminal for the Merrimac Ferry-Thanks-RFD (talk) 20:21, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Ps-also for Indianford, Rock County, Wisconsin in Rock County?

Got the articles done-they were in redlinks for a long time and that drove myself a little crazy-thanks-RFD (talk) 21:05, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
I don't think that I've ever been to either. It's a good question with how many roads I've traveled in Wisconsin. I've been highlighting every time I travel down a Wisconsin road on state road maps since I was 16 and the map is getting VERY orange. I took pictures of the western terminus of the Merrimac Ferry last February but that's it. Royalbroil 00:14, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
I refuse to take any blame for your map getting oranger. Wisconsin doesn't even have an Orange County! --Orange Mike | Talk 01:43, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
NICE! Thanks for the humor, Orangemike! Many counties in eastern Wisconsin counties look like orange county on my map - drove the county roads even! Royalbroil 01:50, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks-Hope you are doing wellRFD (talk) 00:37, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
I am doing well! I'm leaving early from work tomorrow to head to Amberg, Wisconsin for the weekend at my uncle's place, so I won't be checking much until Sunday. Have a great weekend, ya all! Royalbroil 01:38, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Have a nice time-Thanks-RFD (talk) 12:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

I hope your weekend went well-do you have any photos on Bigpatch and Mount Ida, Wisconsin in Grant County, Wisconsin? I started the 2 articles. The redlink for the Bigpatch, Wisconsin article drove me crazy; a Wisconsin Congressman Arthur Kopp was born there so I decided that it was about time to do an article. When I got finished with that I decided to do the Mount Ida article. Hope your trip went well. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 17:20, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

It did go well! I have 4 photos waiting to be uploaded for Mt. Ida from my recent La Crosse trip. I drove US 18 west of Madison out to Prairie du Chien. So you just barely beat me to creating the article! I think I added it to the county template knowing that the article is ready to come. I have nothing on Bigpatch and I never heard of it. Royalbroil 22:37, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks-I have heard of Bigpatch-someone would die and the obituary states the person came from Bigpatch-hope the trip went well. Right now, I am starting articles on the various members of the Wisconsin Legislature especially those who have connection with La Crosse and who were mayors of the city as well-Thanks-RFD (talk) 22:50, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Excellent! Members of the state legislature are easily notable, and mayors of La Crosse would likely be notable too. Royalbroil 23:18, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Centerville, Wisconsin

According the DeLorme Wisconsin Atlas&Gazateer, There are two Centerville, Wisconsin-one is in Saint Croix County and the other is between Grant and Lafayette Counties-you were refering to the one in Saint Croix County. Both should be done-Also I have been working on the Wisconsin Legislature. One example there is no bio for Michael Huebsch who was speaker-also no bios for for Chuck Chvala and Brian Burke both of whom were convicted of ethics misconduct-ThanksRFD (talk) 12:39, 11 November 2009 (UTC) Yikes there is a third Centerville the one in Trempealeau County-the one you refer to-I will do that one-RFD (talk) 12:56, 11 November 2009 (UTC) Suggestion: Centerville, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin; Centerville, Saint Croix, Wisconsin; then use Centerville (community), Wisconsin for the one in Grant&Lafayette Counties-it would too confusing writing in the counties for that one-RFD (talk) 13:07, 11 November 2009 (UTC) Okay I started the articles for the Centervilles that are in Wisconsin: Trempealeau, St. Croix, and Grant Counties-The Grant County Centerville-the citation had it in that county but not in Lafayette County so I kept it in Grant County-makes things a little easier-there is also a town of Centerville, Wisconsin but not in those countiesRFD (talk) 14:18, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

With soooo many places named Centerville, what do you think about having Centerville, Wisconsin be a disambiguation page with links to all the others? None of these places appear to be way more notable than the rest! Royalbroil 03:44, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Would you do me a favor and look at the Roxbury, Wisconsin article? I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions you have for it. I think I've exhausted every last resource available on the town, both on and off the Web, but I certainly could have missed something. --Sift&Winnow 01:44, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

In what respect would you like me to look at the article? Are you thinking about attempting Good Article with it? Looking to improve the references used? Grammar checking? Royalbroil 01:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't thinking GA, but it is listed as a stub now and could use reassessment. Anything and everything else could use a good look. Thanks, --Sift&Winnow 02:09, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
I reassessed and proofread the article. It probably has the best history section of any town in Wisconsin. I assessed as C class because there are areas that could use significant improvement to be a good article. It's getting close to B class. Check out Denver to see some areas that could be expanded like climate. Be proud of the substantial improvement that you've made. Royalbroil 03:58, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
There are a lot of sections that articles on urban areas have that I think are totally inappropriate for an unincorporated area, such as climate, economy, neighborhoods, parks and recreation, sports, media. Why? Because they're non-existent. How can you write about something that doesn't exist? (Climate exists, of course, but NOAA doesn't record climate for Roxbury, so there are no data to report.) In Roxbury, there are no no schools, no neighborhoods, no parks, no recreational facilities, no businesses except the ones already mentioned in the article, no sports, no newspapers, no TV stations, no cultural life, no annual events. There is just the hamlet, which was mentioned, and farms. I looked over articles on rural areas in Wisconsin and I couldn't find any that had more than the basic cookie cutter geography and demographics sections. If you can you find me an example of a rural town or township article with sections such as in the Denver article, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I'm through with the article. Thanks for your edits! --Sift&Winnow 04:16, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good, you're through - and the article is in MUCH better shape for your effort. You're right about the other town articles in Wisconsin being cookie cutter - they were done many years ago by a bot from census data, just like many of the small municipality articles in the U.S. Royalbroil 04:29, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Fr. Jordan of the Salvatorians

Hi Royalbroil-I think I can do an article about Fr. Jordan-he is up for canonization. I had been doing articles about Roman Catholic diocesan bishops and 2-3 articles about titular sees that got their start in the US as dioceses. I also been working on various Wisconsin legislators especially those from the 19th century. Okay- a question how will flagged revisions affect myself with editing. An example: Federal court judge Myron L. Gordon died-he was also on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. I got an obit put it in as a citation and made the change. There was not that much publicity about his death. Would flagged revisions affected the changes I made if it was in effect? I am wondering and concern. Another item about Wisconsin legislators-someone who is into political science-politics should do the articles about those who are still in the legislature. I am more into the historical aspects of what legislator founded what community or how they contribute to the economy. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 14:56, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Good question - I don't know exactly how it will be implemented. I think what's being considered is having a group of trusted people (besides admins) that can review changes. This is why I keep pushing you to let me give you WP:ROLLBACK - it would give you a better chance of being in the approved list. You've done so much here and probably would succeed in an RFA if you would do minimal diversification. You certainly have the number of edits and the right demeanor. Royalbroil 19:53, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
I got the article Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan started-stub-Many thanks-RFD (talk) 21:36, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Excellent - many thanks! Royalbroil 00:00, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for looking at the Judge Gordon article- Fr. Jordan also help founded the Salvatorian Sisters with a nun who was baetified by Pope John Paul II-hopefully I will start that article-RFD (talk) 00
29, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. Also, the only articles which were in the scope of the flagged revisions are biographies of living persons. Since Gordon is dead, the article wouldn't be covered. Royalbroil 00:49, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Geographic templates mess

I noticed that the citations for various census and geographic sources have recently been messed up in geographic articles. They all say "page needed," which seems silly. Check out a few cities and counties to see what I mean. Would you care to weigh in on the matter here? --Sift&Winnow 21:44, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for your question at my RfA, it was much better than the usual "what the difference between a ban and a block" type questions. Thanks for the support too, I appreciate it. Fences&Windows 22:26, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome! I wanted to see how you'd react; I figured someone with deletion experience would breeze through it - like you did. I saw the article recently come up on my watchlist and I figured I'd ask the question again to someone to make sure that we admins think things a little before we just blindly hit the delete button on a speedy delete. It's good to ask at a relevant WikiProject if one applies. Royalbroil 23:24, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I should be able to get to Alan Kulwicki within the next few days. Do you mind if instead of a full review I do a direct copyedit to the article and leave some questions on the talk page? Most of my points during reviews tend to be grammatical ones, and it can get a touch laborious to do that in bullet-point form. Naturally, you can revert anything you disagree with, and I'll have a look at the sources as well (although after List of Daytona 500 pole position winners you have some practice with this). Apterygial 04:51, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Of course you can! I don't remember asking, but I'm always open to a review! Kulwicki is a failed Featured Article Candidate and I just looked at the references which appear to be impeccable. Please ask if you don't understand the significance of any source, like Stock Car Racing means Stock Car Racing magazine. I learned about using highly reliable sources from that experience; the quality references used in the list came as a result. I'd love to see a motorsport but non-NASCAR fan to give AK a clean scrubbing in any/all way, shape, or form you want. Royalbroil 13:39, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, you asked a little while ago and I can barely remember. I'll start working my way through today. Apterygial 02:19, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I've essentially finished with my copyedit. The prose is still occasionally clunky and prone to Americanisms (none of them bad, mind); I won't hold your dislike of the word 'penultimate' against you, except to say I've always thought it was common and the vast amount of people would know what it means. Kulwicki's is a sad story... I found it odd there was no real info about the five races of the 1993 season he did compete in. Apart from that, it seems comprehensive, and it's good to hear about motorsport from the other side of the pond. Have a great Christmas, Apterygial 06:41, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for spending the time on it! You have a great Christmas too! Royalbroil 12:46, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I have been experiencing the same issue with busy real life and constantly down internet. But I have good news! My ISP has literally decided to cancel service in my area at the end of December, so I'm forced to find something else. I had just started intensely looking right before the announcement, and it went very poorly until Thursday when I found a provider in the telephone book which should have a strong signal. It's going to cost me an extra $10/month. Can you believe the cheapest option is $50/month with no DSL available way out in the country? Anyhow, I'm very excited to find something reliable. I need to finish my investigation and get it done in the next few weeks. Royalbroil 12:52, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

William B. Slaughter

I started an article William B. Slaughter and it might be DYK material. William Slaughter became a lawyer in Kentucky and was elected to the Indiana House of Representations where he introduced resolutions supporting President Jackson in the Nullification Crisis involving South Carolina. Eventually Slaughter ends up in Wisconsin Territory and helps organized the territory and becomes Wisconsin terrritorial secretary. Here is the interesting part a county now Washington County, Iowa is named after him but the citizens did not like the name so the citizens of the county named it after President Washington instead. RoyalBroil-if you feel this is DYK then fine although I will not nominate this myself. If it is nominated another editor who is involved should also get the credit. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 16:37, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

It barely passes the DYK length criteria, it should really get expanded first. I checked it with the unofficial checker that many people use. I'm at 99 DYK including 89 ones I did and 10 nominations. I decided that #100 is going to be a big one, so I've been working for months in my sandbox on expanding a neglected article to WP:GA standards for #100. So I'm not taking requests and I'm going to pass on it. I think you should nominate it! It's easy and it's looks good on your resume! I'm happy to walk you through it and to approve the hook. The fact is interesting - wanting to rename Slaughter County! Royalbroil 13:03, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
It was a passing thought. I did get a DYK about Tommy Burnett Tennessee House of Representatives. Orlady was and is very kind and gracious and it was graetly appreciated. I told Orlady that the members of the various state legislature are far more interesting then their counterparts in the US Congress. One example Davis Hanson Waite-he was from New York state and added up in 2 different state legislatures Wisconsin/Kansas before he added up as Governor in a 3rd state Colorado. Also I started an article about Alexander P. Field Wisconsin Territory Secretary-in my research he apparently had a drinking problem and was married 3 times-he started out in the Illinois General Assembly was that state's Secretary of State, went to Wisconsin Territory then to Louisiana where he became Attorney General. So lots of this is interesting and makes Wikipedia unique and special about information that may not show up in almanacs or other encyclopedias. My apologies for being on my soapbox-hope you are well-thanks-RFD (talk) 13:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Go for it - nominate it! I don't understand why you'd pass on nominating Slaughter. For Sec. Field, you would need to be careful about not trashing him by writing a hook talking about his drinking problem causing 3 marriages. I am doing well and I hope that you are doing well with the holiday approaching. I hope you read my post up one section about finally getting a new internet provider. Royalbroil 13:39, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
On Alexander Pope Field don't worry-I will not put anything down about that but a historian Frank E. Stevens did mentioned his 3 marriages, the drinking in an article he wrote about Field-the Illinois Historical Society-I read the article through-in writing about Alexander Pope Field Many thanks-RFD (talk) 15:34, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
The William B. Slaughter article is in the works-DYK!Thanks-RFD (talk) 16:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry you had to ask there, I would have explained! I juiced it up with 2 alternative suggestions that will give you a bunch more hits when it hits the main page (if used). Royalbroil 16:53, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem-this is the first time I did a DYK so it is interesting-everyone has been helpful. Another artcle I started was Charles Dunn, CJ of the Wisconsin Territorial Supreme Court. His daughter Catherine married the first Wisconsin Governor Nelson Dewey. Unfortunately, the Nelson had martial problems and Nelson Dewey filed for a divorce that never went through. Chief Justice Dunn was supposed to be an excellent jurist and lawyer. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 17:10, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks-for your comments-the William Slaughter article took some work getting the info together. On the Alexander P. Field article I am taking your advise. As I told Orlady, Field was married 3 different times, was a heavy drinker. When he was Secretary of State of Illinois, hhe spent lots of time away most of it in St. Louis. The historian who wrote the article for the Illinios Historical Society Ralph Stevens even did not have a favorable attitute about Field. Even the Field Family Tree I look at was not that impress with him. Stevens even had problems getting photos of Field. He managed to get one of he with one of his wives. Many thanks again-RFD (talk) 14:15, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Articles Conflict of Interest

Hi Royalbroil- I to revert edits on 2 articles because of possible Conflict of Interest and original research: #Lucian Pulvermacher- he claimed to be Pope Pius XIII and died quite recently- it sounds like someone from his group made the edits no citations in fact citations were taken out. I asked the editor involved not to make the changes. #Alex Jordan, Jr. of House on the Rock same reason some from organizations made the changes original research/no citation-both have Wisconsin connections. Hope you are doing well thanks-RFD (talk) 19:45, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

No comment about the first change, but the COI person in the second case was effectively challenging the last unsourced statement - so I agreed and challenged it. Royalbroil 22:29, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
I revert my edit back to TrueCatholic in the first article and decided to let someone else worry about it-My thanks for your help-RFD (talk) 22:44, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Robert Richardson, Jr.

The fact that there is no Robert Richardson, Sr. article is swaying me towards the (NASCAR) option. However, if someone were to create the ", Sr." article, that'd change my opinion. But for the moment, go with (NASCAR). Yeah. :) Cs-wolves(talk) 03:11, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

I hope you are doing well. Would you please close the discussion about the proposed move involving Dexter, Wisconsin either today or tomorrow. There has been no more comments and the original editor who proposed this has not said anything more-Thanks-RFD (talk) 15:48, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Per WP:RMCI, neither Royalbroil or I should close the discussion, unfortunately. --BaronLarf 20:14, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Charlesburg

Nice pictures for the new Charlesburg, Wisconsin article!--BaronLarf 05:35, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I was hoping to create that article myself. You can see I planned it years ago (look at the date of the images). Would you please skip adding articles to the unincorporated communities in Fond du Lac and Calumet Counties? I have pictures of many of them. Royalbroil 05:46, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. I only created it after it redlinked from the Aloysius Leitner article that I was trying to improve.--BaronLarf 07:30, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Our Lady of Good Shrine-photos

Hi! if you are in the Green Bay-Door County area-you may want to take photos of the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. It is one of the important Roman Catholic shrines in Wisconsin-Bishop Ricken just said mass there-THanks-RFD (talk) 18:48, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh my - looks interesting! I doubt that I'd go that way until spring or summer. Maybe on a trip to door county or going to races at nearby Luxemburg Speedway in April/May. It's nice to have something interesting like that to visit while going or coming back from Door County. Royalbroil 01:04, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks-unlike Holy Hill, the Guadalupe Shrine or St Josephat Basilica, the Our Lady of Good Help is not that well known. It could very well be declare a minor basilica. Bishop Ricken did say mass there and created a diocesan commission to look into whether Adele Brice saw thw Blessed Virgin Mary in the 19th Century. Hope you are doing okay-I started an article about the Roman Catholic Brazilian Archbishop Ribeiro. He died and his name was at Deaths in 2009. Iwanted to get done or else it will be taken off in a month-Hope you are well-RFD (talk) 14:40, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Images

Yes sir. I will definitly ask your assistiance when I plan on uploading images. Currently I have none ready, but I am planning on taking some soon. I appreciate your welcome and if their is any racing related articles you would like me to edit, just put links on my talk page. I'll fix them up as soon as I can (most likely after Christmas). Thanks again and Happy Holidays!--Johncoracing48 (talk) 22:18, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I will most certainly remember your advice the next time I upload a photo. As for the Alan Kulwicki article, I would love to review it. Alan Kulwicki is one of my favorite drivers of all time. My raceteam runs the #7 in his honor and we even have a throwback paint scheme on it. However, since I hold Alan Kulwicki in such high respect, I'm worried that I might be a biased critic. I will try to remain as unbiased as possible when I do review it but I just want it on the record that I am a huge fan.--Johncoracing48 (talk) 02:26, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

That's cool. I would love to go see Alan's grave site. I live in Florida so I'm kind of on the wrong side of the continent if you know what I mean. Anyway, I'll review it as soon as I can. By the way, I plan on going to the Daytona 500 in February. I may need your photo expertise when I get back.

We run races at the local short tracks around our area. I don't drive (yet) but I am the Marketing Director. I think you've most likely seen more racing action than I have.--Johncoracing48 (talk) 19:48, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll check out the Pearson Article after the Holidays. I ended up with some extra time on my hands when I wrote the Kulwicki review. I don't think that will happen again until 2010. I WILL review it though.--Johncoracing48 (talk) 21:26, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Mukwonago, Wisconsin

Would you please take a look at the Mukwonago, Wisconsin article notable people section? Some an anon edit and a register editor have persistant in putting a high school football player John Witt. I tried tell the John Witt needs to notable and being a high school player-championships is not acceptable-it has been frustrating thanks-RFD (talk) 00:08, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks for taking of this it was getting frustrating-RFD (talk) 00:34, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Notability of Wisconsin political figures

Out of curiosity, what's your stance on keep/delete for Wisconsin? I personally think that WP:POLITICIAN is a reasonable guidepost. The reason I ask is because people like Ben Manski do not seem to meet that guidepost, but have survived an AfD. Meanwhile Thomas Kemp, who has actually won some political office, appears likely to head for deletion. I ask because I am considering re-nominating Ben Manski for AFD, but do not wish to if other WP:WPWI contributors have different ideas of notability. Thanks! --BaronLarf 04:31, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I judge by WP:POLITICIAN too. I would argue to keep Manski - not because he attempted minor political offices, but because he was the co-chair in a national political party. That appears to be his only area with notability, with the possible except of being the current head of a company with an article. I consider myself more on the inclusionist side, although I may be more middle of the road since Wikipedia as a whole has gravitated toward me in the past few years. Royalbroil 04:52, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate your input. --BaronLarf 04:54, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to interrupt-Ben Manski is also an editor on Wikipedia and I think he may had ran against Doug LaFollette for the Wisconsin Secretary of State although I would have to do some checking on that one-Many thanks-RFD (talk) 13:46, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Very interesting, it's User:Ben Manski. Looks like he hasn't edited in a while. Royalbroil 02:23, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

One more ques. about Wave

I uploaded the pic of the can, and its is my work. But why is it saying that it isn't my work and that it might be someone elses? I mean, I made a video for youtube using that pic, but it is all my work --Dominic Edward Aragon (talk) 04:40, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Wisconsin communities resource

I just happened upon a good resource on the names and locations of Wisconsin unincorporated communities that you and RFD might be interested in. http://dhs.wi.gov/VitalRecords/pdf/cvtlist.pdf. It appears to be what the Wisconsin Dept. of Human Resources uses to find tiny hamlets while working with vital records. --BaronLarf 22:47, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Wow, it's excellent! I checked out numerous communities from the past and present in my area and they're all there. Royalbroil 00:55, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi!

Good to see you guys again. Funny, that when you mentioned BaronLarf, I checked his contributions page, and his latest article is on the little crossroads where I live! -Freekee (talk) 06:42, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Be sure to add some photographs then!  :^) Cheers --BaronLarf 06:51, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
I think I can do that! I have lots of pictures of my house. ;-) It was quite a coincidence that I checked your contributions in that span of time where my community was at the very top of the page. Also, thanks for updating the Interurban trail page. I'd been meaning to do that. -Freekee (talk) 15:34, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

The 100 DYK Medal

The 100 DYK Medal
Royalbroil is recognized for 100 contributions to DYK. Thanks very much for your many contributions to this area of the project. David Pearson (NASCAR driver) is quite a comprehensive article for a DYK, it is practically a WP:GA already. Nice job. Cirt (talk) 07:51, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
I appreciate the medal, especially coming from such a familiar face! Thank you for all that you do too. I decided to "go for broke" on my 100th DYK which is why it took me months. I decided to do a large improvement on a neglected high-profile topic. It's been a long time coming - I never guessed that I'd get this many. Royalbroil 13:10, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
You only just now got to 100? I figured you'd be way past that by now. :-) Congratulations! -Freekee (talk) 15:34, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Working out full-time, a bad internet connection for the past 6 months, and lots of track chasing have cut into my free time a whole bunch. Plus I did a complete rewrite on a major topic. David Pearson (NASCAR driver) is now nominated for Good Article. Royalbroil 16:44, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Photo request

No, I don't have any pics of the Mequon Town Hall. Yes, I do intend to get one. I was there last summer, but I wasn't sure which building it was. Now that I've figured it out, I haven't gotten around to going back. This would probably be a good time, since the trees are bare, and you can see the building better. Those last seven missing images (and one recent addition) for the Ozaukee county list page have been bugging me for months. :-) -Freekee (talk) 15:13, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for checking on the photorequest list. I haven't gotten back into my old habits yet. And I see there's only one item on the list that's in my area. That's Ulao Creek, which I've also been meaning to shoot for a long time. It's about a quarter mile from my house. Winter's not a good time for that one, though. -Freekee (talk) 18:22, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Since I had the day off, I ran out and got some photos. Uploaded five for Ozaukee, including the one you asked about. I'm almost done with the list. There are three remaining. One is a district, which is difficult. Another is a shipwreck, but I'm working on it. The third is well inside private property. We'll see.
I know how how it is to run out of time. Last week I was out, and it was snowing, so that made things a bit slow. And then, it was the shortest day of the year, so I had to quit a little after 4:00. I also couldn't find one of the sites, and after I got home, I remembered to check it out on Google Maps Street View. If I'd done that beforehand, I couldn't have missed it! -Freekee (talk) 00:57, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Please help us improve this page Armorbearer777 (talk) 09:24, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

This article seems at least as well referenced as MAD Christian Radio Show and that article has remained untouched on wikipedia.

At least there are assertions of notability for that article. It supposedly airs internationally and it won Dove Awards (I assume that's what the article means) which are quite notable. These are the type of things that you should look for when writing an article. Royalbroil 14:06, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your honest input and your time. Happy New Year! Armorbearer777 (talk) 13:31, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

I pray you have a blessed day. I regret that you do not see this radio show for it's importance in the Christian Metal counter culture. but it just does not get the type of "High Profile" media that you require. CCM and other magazines of that type would never support a program that represents the Christian Metal couter culture such a The Full Armor of God Broadcast. And Magazines such as the ones The Full Armor of God Broadcast is able to advertise in such as HM, Heaven's Metal, Uprisezine, Wheels of Grace and Christian Motorsports Illustrated. These types of magazines do not publish articles about radio shows. Only bands, musicians, Skate boarders, motorcycle builders and race car drivers. Advertisement is all this radio show can hope for in that area. But I do tend to disagree with you (though it surely can only further hurt this cause). I think that steady advertisement does establish notability. I mean, why should it matter if the coverage is paid for or not, it still reaches the same number of readers, right? Steady advertisement also establishes some professionalism. If your mind is made up than it's made up, but as a Christian I would ask you to please seek the Lord's guidance on this matter in prayer before you make a final decision. Also please take into account the audio media content that has been referenced. Perhaps you might ask someone you know in WikiPorject Christian Radio, if it exists, to review this article too. I believe that the refernced digital content proves the program's notability in many ways. Interviews such as Demon Hunter, Brian HEAD Welch, As I Lay Dying, Stryper and Disciple should prove some level of notability to the show in and of themselves. Bands like them don't take the time to do interviews with shows that they never heard of. But nevertheless, even though I hurt this cause by contacting you, thanks so much for you time. lol Armorbearer777 (talk) 14:59, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I needed to be forward to explain why this is happening. Please understand that it is not a "Royalbroil" decision whether or not this stays. It's consensus of the Wikipedia community, and I'm only one person. I am not against you! I'm trying to get you to provide a reason to make it stay. Right now there unfortunately isn't one. You can seek people interested in Christian music at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christian music. Another possible person to talk with is User:JamieS93. She may be able to help you with your cause. You do raise a good point about notable bands seeking notable programs - now just show us that in print. I pray that you have a bless day too!Royalbroil 17:27, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
I have refferenced 15 radio stations that air the program. Everytime I post links to radio station program schedules that list the show as being aired, they are removed and I am told that they are not credible. How can a radio staion listing a radio show on its program schedule NOT be credible? This really seems unfair. They take of all the references to radio staions who air the program, than leave a demand to provide citatin for syndication verification. I realize this show is NOT A1R, but it does reach a significant Christian counter culture of Metal HEADS, Extreme Sports Fans, Bikers and Recovering Addicts. Please take some time to look into this awesome radio outreach ministry. I am sure you will see that God uses it mightily. Be blessed and don't worry, I am sure that The Full Armor of God Broadcast does not measure its own worth via it's wikipedia status. Thank you. Sorry if I was out of order by being an intern for the ministry. I really do want to advance Christianity and Christian Music on Wikipedia! When they delete this again, I will still keep trying. Keep in touch ok? TY Armorbearer777 (talk) 00:31, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
A radio station listing its programs should be credible, so I don't understand this one. I believe that there's some way to have this article on Wikipedia at some point, even if that point isn't now. You are the key to make it happen. If you can find articles about the program in periodicals, then it's probably worthy of inclusion. I think that you've meet the verification part of Wikipedia; the material that you're adding appears to be true. The problems is that you haven't satisfied the notability part yet. I find it hard to believe that a nationally syndicated show with 15 radio stations has never been the subject of a non-advertising article written by a trade magazine or local newspaper. I can find articles in local newspapers about small local businesses! Before you post this article again (after writing in your user sandbox), let me and several other people look it over before it gets posted. Let's take our time and do it right so no one will have a problem with it. There are plenty of worthwhile topics in the world that don't have Wikipedia articles. Is this really worth the heartache to you? I suspect your conflict of interest is a very large part of the problem, because others perceive that you have an ulterior motive. For some background that is not apparent to the general public, there recently has been a lot of bad feelings in Wikipedia when some people have been paid to create articles. When I write an article about a national radio program, I rarely get any grief. That's because I don't have a reason to write the article. And remember, just because I'm an admin doesn't mean ANYTHING. The article needs to be verifiable, written in a neutral point of view, and have multiple independent sources. Radio stations in the syndication are not independent sources (they are dependent on the program!). Royalbroil 03:12, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I am not aware of any such magazine artcles, perhaps Teen Challenge might have some, I will look into it ASAP. But for now, as one last ditch effort to establish some small level of notability to The Full Armor of God Broadcast I have linked article to a few short mp3 sound clips of notable guests who have endorsed the show verbally including: Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter, Nick Hipa of As I Lay Dying, Brian HEAD Welch (formerly) of Korn, Kevin Young of Disciple and Kirk Cameron of Way of the Master Ministies. Though these sound clips are hosted by The Full Armor of God Broadcast's website, unless the program is going to be accused of falsification of these clips entirely (which certainly is NOT the case), these should establish at least some slight basis of notability, if only on a small scale. Please consider these audio clips as "self published web content" to establish notability enough to keep this modest article on wikipedia. Otherwise, I will keep working on it in the sandbox and see if any magazine articles exisit. If they do, they are more likely to be similar to local ministry bulletins and not major publications as requested. Lastly, please do not discount the listening audience of XYZ Radio which serves the iPhone, Wii, DS, PS3 and PSP. This is a QUICKLY GROWING medium of broadcasting and reaches many listeners! Thank you all for you time! Please review NEW audio references as "self published web content" according to wikipedia policy (hopefully)... Please view article before someone goes and pulles all of them off.. lol comment added by Armorbearer777 (talkcontribs) 06:55, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Please Note Full Armor of God Broadcast is about as well known in the area of Christian Metal as it can be. Unfortunately the magazines that cover the Christian Metal culture won't really publish anything on them. But they have been notible enough to trade airtime for magazine ads. I hope that the radio liners from notable artists & from Kirk Cameron at least help establish some notability. We also found a couple references about the show on a couple bios from the band Armed Conflict who performs the Full Armor of God Broadcast theme song. The Full Armor of God Broadcast is hardly Focus on the Family in notability, but considering that Christian Metal music does not really take the spotlight in the coporate Christian music world and is very much a counter culture and that the show is certainly NOT corporate radio, it has gotten as much coverage as a radio show of it's type can, without switching over to mainstream CCM stuff like Skillet or Flyleaf. Which would not be bad, just not the direction that I think he is taking the show. I know that they are very popular in the Christian Motorcycle world, the Christian Extreme Sports worls and have a growing populatity in the Christian Motorsports world. This biggest problem with the notability of the show is that it's main audience is an un-tapped radio market. So even though it is not the most famous show in radio, it certainly is the most recognized radio show in it's scope. As wikipedia policy states: "Article topics are required to be notable, or "worthy of notice." Determining notability does not necessarily depend on things like fame, importance, or the popularity of a topic—although those may enhance the acceptability of a subject" , food for thought. I am going to work on other articles while I continue to work on this one. Your encouragement is certainly appreciated more than you know. Armorbearer777 (talk) 04:39, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I have encountered that problem with other Christian music topics, so I understand. I made an article for Christian Music Central, a Christian magazine, and it was nominated for deletion a few days later. I was accused of creating spam even though I had nothing to do with the company. It was impossible to find reliable sources that talked about it. So I've taken some lumps too. You can read the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christian Music Central. This happened after I was here almost 2 years and about 8 months before I became an admin (which means I was already well-respected at the time), so it can happen to anyone. I enjoy Skillet and especially Flyleaf. Royalbroil 05:04, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
TY for that! My musical tastes seem to lean more toward Non-commercial radio, which I find very culturally important, but very hard to reference. I don't mind Skillet and Flyleaf but I am the kind of guy that always root for the "underdogs"! Please see my article DRAFT on in my sand box for Christian Metal Radio. For now it looks like it may be accepted on the Christian Metal page, but I would one day liek to see it stand on it's own. I am a LONG TIME wiki reader, but very NEW at the wiki editing. especially the protocal. I am learning. i did manage to make some VERY GOOD edits on Bikers for Christ that seem as though they are going to stand. I am getting the hang of it. On another note, The Full Armor of God Broadcast has informed me that they do have some notable press in some college newspapers and a Christian metal magazine. However, it cannot be referenced online. All they can do is scan them and host them on their website. But woul'd that be a WP:RS?? Armorbearer777 (talk) 16:47, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Niagara shipwreck

I don't believe that the picture you uploaded of the Niagara is the correct one. I've been pursuing pics of that ship for several days now, and have found a couple of likely versions, but no photos (except of the interior). The ship in the photo you uploaded appears to be way too small to carry 1200 passengers plus cargo, not fancy enough, and I'm pretty sure the Niagara was a side wheeler.

On a related note, do you have any input on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Freekee (talkcontribs)

Please remove the image if you think it's wrong. Feel free to edit the description on Commons. It would probably need to remain on Commons since old photographs of ships are encyclopedic (even if it's not the right ship). I would photoshop it out the graphic on the PD image before using it. Royalbroil 19:18, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Where do you find the 1200 passengers info? The comment on the county National Register article says that 60 died, and this source (where the picture came from) [5] has reference which put the number of deaths between 50 and hundreds. Royalbroil 04:27, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Oops, I meant 120 passengers. But at second look, the article says 170. Yes, the photo should stay in the Commons, but the description should be changed. What about the file name? -Freekee (talk) 04:53, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
You can change the description - it's just like the English Wikipedian and your login should work there with the unified login (see Wikipedia:Unified login) if you haven't done so already. What would you have the image name changed too? I can do admin maintenance on Commons. Are you sure that this is not the right ship? I bet hundreds of people would fit on board. Royalbroil 04:59, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm not certain what to change it to. That's why I was hoping you'd do it. :-) I've got some pics to upload, so I'll take care of it later tonight. The article says our Niagara was a side-wheeler, and I found two other pictures in articles related to our ship that match each other and the description. I also found mention of half a dozen other Niagaras, so I think it's likely that they often get confused. Also, underwater photos and captions of the wreck at one website mention a diamond-shaped walking beam, which is seen on these other pictures I've got. My pics aren't photos, though, they're drawings, so they're not the best resource, but they're all I can find at the moment. -Freekee (talk) 19:49, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Silica/St. Peter

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was away for Christmas and the weather delay my return. I left the DeLorme atlas home but the Town of Taycheedah website confirmed that Silica&St.Peter are in the town itself and so does the atlas-Best wishes-thanks-RFD (talk) 17:27, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh, so the roads were bad (tee hee!)? The weather delayed lots of things. Were you in my neck of the woods? Thanks for checking it out! I figured they were in the town of Taycheedah. I did look at the town's website but I couldn't confirm. Royalbroil 01:38, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
No not even close-I was in Bettendorf, Iowa and the weather was just as bad. The Town of Taycheedah has a map of the town and Silica/St. Peter were in the map-Thanks-RFD (talk) 13:37, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Doh! How did I miss that map? I heard a large part of the U.S. got nailed by that storm. I got help from a non-Wikipedian friend from Menasha, and we photographed all of the historic places and major items in Neenah. He's a big fan of what we've done and wanted to give something back. I'll be uploading them soon. I might wait until after I get my new internet on Dec 31 (hopefully!) so there'll be some reliability. I think my current internet is going to be shut down tomorrow. Royalbroil 13:44, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

So I added a couple things to the IXL Historical Museum, particularly from the state HAL site describing the main building. I've recently been slowly working through some NRHP lists in the UP, specifically Keweenaw County, Houghton County, and Marquette County, if you want more inspiration :). Andrew Jameson (talk) 13:44, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I have more inspiration than time! I'm from eastern Wisconsin, and I've photographed many hundreds of places on the register throughout the entire eastern half of Wisconsin. I'd only work on articles where I took a photo since I can afford to be so choosy. I have visited every county in the UP in my life; most were around 10 years ago when I had more vacation time at my previous employer. The Keewenaw Peninsula was my favorite part of the UP. I'm amazed at how poorly known that area is after being awed in its beauty. I went to the IXL Museum this past summer while spending a weekend at my uncle's nearby cabin. The photos looked good even though it was a dreary day that turned into rain while we were there. Royalbroil 13:51, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
And you might want to take a look now; I added a bunch of historical information on the company. Andrew Jameson (talk) 15:46, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
