Uploading of photos of WIS highways

I was confronted by another user (see photos my talk page) about "poor quality photos" being on Wikipedia articles - and also there seems to be a consensus against photo galleries in WP:USRD. Just to let you know about it. An optimal solution to this would be to move the images to Wikimedia Commons, then apply {{Commons}} or {{Commonscat}}. The CC sharealike license is allowed in Commons so I don't see any problem - but they will have to be transwikied over. If any questions, let me know thanks -- master_sonTalk - Edits 21:56, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Ouch! I found their discussion, and the discussion appears to be over. There are close to 100 images that would need to be reuploaded, which would take many DAYS. I wish that I could get help from someone with a super lightning fast internet connection. Royalbroil T : C 12:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll help out where I can over the next few days - I have a copy of the Commonist app. I'll make sure to maintain the same license and credit you as the source. -- master_sonTalk - Edits 04:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Please add any images that I took to the Commons category Commons:Category:Files by User:Royalbroil from en.wikipedia. Also add them to Category:Cities in Wisconsin if appropriate. My class schedule prevents me from doing much Wikipedia in the first half of the week. Royalbroil T : C 13:21, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey. I started an article on him, so if you still have that photo of him, we can add it now. Recury 18:14, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

I just checked the block log, and all his sockpuppets have been blocked. We can drop the WP:SSP case now. :D. Retiono Virginian 18:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Note: I was looking through the history of the Kiel city in Wincosin and I found previous vandalism by this user User:Tyler Dhein Who appears to be another sockpuppet of Fatwhales. Who was blocked indef but had vandalised in very similar patterns to him. So, be on alert for more socks, and if this continues should we start a request at WP:RFCU? Retiono Virginian 17:00, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh, do me a favor and sign here thanks. Retiono Virginian 17:01, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Just found yet another sockpuppet. User:Bulldog17. Vandalism to Wisconsin today, very similar to what he normally does to Wisconsin and other related articles. Since of this being the forth abusive account. I will be starting A WP:RFCU. As soon as I get round to it. Retiono Virginian 13:56, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Please do. Let me know if you need any help or for me to witness anything. Good job keeping your eyes open! Royalbroil T : C 16:20, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation of IndyCar

Hi Royalbroil. I've spot-checked several of your changes and they look fine to me. (I was actually checking them as you went along). I think American Championship Car Racing was quite an appropriate target for most of the links. I also agree that it's OK for some pages to link to the IndyCar disambiguation page. Thanks for your efforts. DH85868993 05:36, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the thankyou - I am a bit grumpy at times, and tend to go in cutting out everything I don't like the look of, especially in an article about something as risqué as this one - thanks for putting up with me and, of course, expanding the abbreviations! Harmon Marble article, your comments

I'm confused about this. I'm offering primary source information that is not available anywhere else, yet I have to reference it. Doesn't make sense. And the comments about Mr. Marble's photographic abilities are not subjective opinions. They are based on my own hands-on examination of between 50 and 100 original Marble prints, which were badly composed, inconsistently exposed, and poorly printed. I'm well qualified to make those observation as both professional photographer, photographic collector, and photographic historian with more than 35 years of experience. I was actually very diplomatic about it. He was a dreadful photographer, but prolific and apparently full of good intentions. I purchased the only good photograph out of the lot I examined (the one I posted). I suppose I could post the information somewhere else online and quote myself, but that seems kind of pointless. There are many online sources offering his work for sale, some with bits of biographical information, but most of the information I posted came from hand-written family documents which accompanied the photo I purchased and posted, and won't be found elsewhere. Except for dates of birth and death, there is no other online source for most of it. It's not worth my time and trouble to make it up, and anyone who can refute it or add to it is welcome to edit. I simply found the man interesting enough to write about, and thought the information might be of interest since virtually nothing is known about him. If it won't stand, then so be it. I did make one false statement in the interests of diplomacy. My comment about natural rendition of his subjects is a friendly fib (but one that is repeated almost universally in offerings of his work for sale--it's utterly false, yet I could make a book of references for it). Marble had the snapshot shooter's penchant for standing everyone in a row and saying "look at the camera and don't move." The photo I posted is not as bad as most, but you can see it there too. With few exceptions, his subjects are posed standing stiffly as though for lack of anything better to do. If I had to be absolutely honest, I prefer the fluid work of skilled photographers like Curtis and Wanamaker. They did what good photographers do, and criticism of sentimentality in their images is misguided. However, bad as he was, Marble is interesting, and apparently he accomplished good things in his work with the Indians. He also made the attempt to create a photographic record. Seems a shame he shouldn't be identified and credited somewhere for the effort.

Ultimately, I suppose I'm baffled that Wikipedia does not recognize personal expertise as an acceptable source of information, especially as it's subject to review and edit by virtually anyone. After all, someone (of usually unknown qualifications) had to write the referenced material. The fact that it's posted online somewhere doesn't make it verifiable truth. There's a lot of garbage out there. Very strange. PastReflections 06:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

A couple of comments back to you. It doesn't have to be online to be used, in fact hard references like newspapers, books, and magazine are actually prefered! There is great emphasis on quality references, and little weight (if any) given to weak references. (See the policy and guidelineWikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Citing sources).
We can't accept personal expertise because think of how choatic this place would be if everyone put their opinions and/or "personal experience" here. Well-intentioned people disagree with each other all the time here even with sources to back them up. Wikipedia is not a blog or a place for people to post their opinions. It is an encyclopedia. I wonder if it would be acceptable for you to were to say something like "on one of his pictures he wrote ...". The relevant policy (not to be broken) is Wikipedia:No original research.
You I disagree with your assessment about how his bad picture taking skills. Not because of my extremely limited photographic expertise, but because that is your opinion. There may 99 out of 100 people that agree with you, but that is your group's opinion. Find a well-known photographic expert's review, and you can cite it. You can say critic XYZ or the American Photography club' if they do it in some sort of printed assessment of his work. Make sure that you cite the reference. But I don't see why his photographic skills are matter anyhow. Royalbroil 00:33, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Old rural "church" in Ozaukee County

I believe that the picture on the Ozaukee County page labelled as a church is actually a schoolhouse. If you notice, there are no religious design/markings built into the structure, such as a spire or cross.

Here is a picture of the historical Stoney Hill Schoolhouse in Waubeka, about six miles away. Although built with fieldstone, you will notice that the architectural profile is quite similar. It has a small bell tower in front, and a chimney in the back.

Hi - There's no denying that Acuity claims that it is the 80th large group - However, their own marketing literature does not count as a reliable source, and by that token whould not be included. That being said, notability is no doubt establshed with the "best place to work" mention - The article could do with more non-trivial mentions of that nature - Tiswas(t) 09:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikilinking dates

  1. One thing I saw in your edits to Langhorne Speedway was that you wikilinked the date and year of a referenced website's retrieval in the citation. I haven't reviewed Wikipedia:Footnotes or Wikipedia:Citing sources today (I'm at link using an untabbed browser), but I don't think that meets guidelines nor is needed. Nothing about the ref lookup is a historical event that has relevance to that date and year, and there's no reason it needs to show up in the "what links here" tool for the date or year. Can you provide a reason why we should be doing that?
  2. On the other hand, linking years of actual encyclopedic events to "1949 in NASCAR" or "1950 in motor racing" gives us a tool for eventually building those year-in-topic articles automatically builds those categories. Where some don't exist yet (like 1949 in both NASCAR and motor racing), are we better off adding the desired link and letting it be redlinked until the article is created, or just leaving it unlinked or wikilinked to the general year article such as 1949? Barno 13:19, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I wikilink dates because it allows the reader's user preferences to work. For example, I like to see May 11, 2007. Others in Europe like 11 May 2007. See the guideline WP:DATE. Note that I only wikilink full dates, not month/year. I have been primarily using the citation templates like {{cite news}} and {{cite-web}}. I recommend using these instead. I never use the "Year in motorsports/NASCAR", but I added 1949 in NASCAR to be consistent with what you had. I thought that the article "1949 in NASCAR" existed and I didn't check that it worked right. Sorry. I have no information on the IndyCar races at Langhorne. Thanks for you time for commenting on the Mario Andretti article. Royalbroil 15:37, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I wasn't familiar with how the software formats its display of dates to match the reader's preference set in his profile. Personally I don't think this pandering to tastes is needed, but since it exists and is recommended by the Manual of Style guidelines, I'm fine with it, and will start using it where the date seems relevant enough to be worth wikilinking. Thanks for pointing me to the relevant guideline. Barno 17:07, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
F.Y.I. - the reason that I changed that date is because you didn't use the standard U.S. date pattern. Using the wikilink trick allows me to see the date the way that I am used to. Note that articles should use the standard date, word spelling, and word choice preferences that are prevalent in the country that the subject of the article is from. I first ran into that problem when I wrote two simultaneous DYK articles about Henry Segrave and the Segrave Trophy from the U.K. I questioned someone about why they were changing the date order to DD MM YYYY. I find it VERY helpful to see dates from anywhere in the world in my customary format. Just my $0.02. Royalbroil 18:18, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar

Thank you! Also, thanks for the picture of the Mullet River. I wonder if you'd mind if I re-upload it on the Commons with a tiny sliver cropped off the left side, just to take out the rearview mirror? Thanks-- Malepheasant 16:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

re:IMSA GT

Hi

I would like to say thanks a lot for the nomination, but the trouble is on Sunday after I received this post, I started to look for source, whilst going on a page, that page caused my web brower to crash, losing all the reference work I have done so afr, therefore I have to start again. As I have started to work on it, is there a deadline for this referencing work to be done as I am currently trying to juggle this with my college coursework. Also is there a way you could make it easy by placing cite marks

Also, how do I cite from a website whose webpage that has since ceased to exist? Willirennen 02:05, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Quoting from the page: Turbochargers were not permitted until the mid-1977 season, and became permitted after protests by Porsche motorsport department after inspecting Al Holbert's AAGT winning Chevrolet Monza, which had won him two titles. Prior to 1977, Porsche privateers had to make do with obsolete 911 Carrera RSRs, which they sometime managed to scrape a victory, otherwise struggled with the AAGT cars
Except for the one about the Chevrolet Monza bit at the middle which came from the Prototype book, was in fact come from the Brumos website, but the last time I read that was back in February 2001. Also is with the referencing, the page is now a total mess, is there a way that could be sorted out, I would be very thankful if you could help? Willirennen 03:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Also thanks for the edit and for the edit that helped me to get my first DYK, as it is something I never thought I would have. I was also very surprised how quick it took to get one. With the editing, I have made a small bit of editing, but the bad news is, that is not the end of the edit as the next step is to eventually turn it into a FA graded article as well as user:The359 is going to start on a season by season account sometimes in the summer. What my plan is somewhere in the year, I will be creating some articles for the cars of IMSA GTP.
Its a shame as a UK resident for most of my life, coverages for IMSA has been rather difficult, despite being in a Group C territory which I am also a fan of, that is what led me to like the series as I have always being a fan of the GTP cars itself, I never had satellite television as it was a way to get hold of coverages, but I have seen one IMSA GTP race somewhere in 1990 at a friend's house, despite this, through to coming to the Goodwood Festival of Speed on a regular basis, I have seen a lot of the GTP/GTO cars as well as meeting many of its drivers and personnels, and also I would thank you very much for your assistance in edits to get it to DYK. Also, considering your interest in IMSA GTP, can I interest you with joining this Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports Car Racing. Willirennen 03:11, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:C801561.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:C801561.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:58, 19 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih 00:58, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Florida Photographic Collection

Do you know what license is used for the Florida Photographic Collection? User:Jusjih seems bent on eraticating images and I've put a lot of time and effort into getting images appropiate for articles I create and edit. I maintain that those who run across photos, remove the image info and replace it with a deletion notice should replace it with the so-called correct license tag. I don't feel like spending hours retagging photos that are completely legal. Noles1984 14:02, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello,

Thanks for your comment about the Mary Brunner article! Very much appreciated. I had some free time the night I created it and did some research. I am still tinkering with it some (as I do with a lot of my articles) because it seems to me to still be a bit awkward. Also, thank you for the "Did you know..." nomination! Thanks much! Image copyright problem with Image:Pr09097.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Pr09097.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Purgatorio 18:01, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Apologies - the image simply showed up when I ran through some random images and unfortunately it isn't one of the ones that is clearly public domain. Most of the images do seem to have been better catered for now in terms of replacement tags. Would it be wise to remove the defunct {{Template:Flphoto}} from those which have a replacement tag, so that the small number of dregs can be more readily identified using Whatlinkshere? There are only around 200 images to work through so I am quite happy to do that. Purgatorio 20:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Florida Photographic Collection

I understand your frustration. Please see the messages left on your talk page not as warnings but rather as notification that a certain picture might be deleted. I, of course, will not notify you since you requested not to but unfortunately not everyone will see the message you have left on your talk page as a lot of us use automated scripts to notify the uploaders, so just remove those "warnings"\messages if you want (although I do understand it's a hassle, it seems to me as if it's unavoidable).

  1. Anybody can help I suppose and nobody has been explicitly assigned this role but I might take it upon myself to do it.
  2. Basically, if you have enough time, you need to contact the Florida Photographic Collection people (I think the e-mail address is Archives@dos.state.fl.us) and ask them what the copyright status of the different photos is. You don't need to contact them for photos that you know were published before 1923 OR for which the author died 70 years ago (1938). I'd be happy to help out with this but unfortunately most of the pictures using this template don't even have a link to the source or any sort of ID that could help me identify it on the FLPC website.
  3. In 99% of cases, I'd say they wouldn't.

Thanks, Yonatan talk 14:54, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:FireflightPromo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:FireflightPromo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Good fix for Florida Memory Project, not complaint

After multiple notices on FMP images, I created the below and it's flying with at least one administrator.

DYK

Great idea, I hadn't thought of that. The editor who started the page off beat me by just a few seconds--we must've both seen the news item on the Yahoo main page at the same time! It would be nice to use the book cover photo in there as well. Badagnani 16:35, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Mario

Many apologies for my lack of contributions on this one recently. I like the new structure you have proposed - i suggest you should implement it in the article. My only remaining concern with the structure is the 'Racing in several series'. Have you got any more info on when Mario raced in each of them? 4u1e 13:11, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

No problem - I just want make sure that things keep moving. I have already added the year info to the series that I have a source. Royalbroil 13:38, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I've just spent an hour or so sifting through various webpages and think I understand things better now - I've outlined what I think on the talk page. It may all be obvious to you, but it was an interesting learning experience for me! :) 4u1e 15:22, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure thing! I've gotten in the essential info I needed to for now. So have at it! Cheers, Badagnani 14:23, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought you were just planning to make one small change of link. The Jerusalem Post article is very good; I hadn't seen that. Badagnani 15:03, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

DYK notifications

Thanks for clearing those, I was a bit pushed for time. Yomanganitalk 20:16, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. I should have left a message in my edit summary that I was clearing them after I had notified the contributors and marked the articles. I assumed that it was okay for a non-admin to notify. I know it wouldn't bother me! Royalbroil 23:25, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, any time you want to do the notifications, jump in. I don't think you'll find any admin complaining. Yomanganitalk 00:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

DYK list

  • Thanks for the friendly note about DYK updating, and I will definitely check the history next time. I saw you removed yourself from the list of DYKers. We had a discussion on the talk page of the list, and you no longer have to be in the "top 25" to be listed there, so if you want, you could still list yourself there... Hi there Royalbroil and thanks for all the US motorsport. Hmmm I am looking forward to this week's US GP....intersting season so far....In general, I don't think that the 1500 thing is a hard and fast limit...and people generally reward longer articles...anyway....It's mainly RS and NPOV which are the non negotiables...did I miss any? Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

It sounds reasonable for the limit of a maximum of 1500 characters to be a soft limit. I'm not a Formula 1 fan. Believe it or not there aren't very many F1 fans in the U.S. I didn't become a fan even when Michael Andretti went to F1, and I was a big fan of his. F1 results don't get much TV time on local Sunday night news. NASCAR is top sports news and the two IndyCar series get lesser coverage. F1 often gets skipped. Royalbroil 17:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Davey Ray

Hi Royal. Sorry not to have got back to you sooner. I think I would classify the Australian Speedcar series as "sizeable"; each state has their own series and there's also a national series. I must confess I wasn't familiar with the name "Davey Ray", but I don't really follow speedcar racing that closely, so that doesn't surprise me. I think winning the Australian Championship should qualify Davey as "notable". These sites might give you some more info and an idea of the sort of cars they race: [2] [3]. Hope this helps. Selling coal to Newcastle

Very belatedly, I'd like to thank you for this comment last week at Template talk:Did you know regarding the "Selling coal to Newcastle" page. I created it after trying to wikilink to the phrase during a talk page conversation, and discovered to my surprise that it was a redlink. After some hunting I found it had been transwiki'd and deleted the previous month, so I thought it deserved better. Ten minutes of Googling uncovered more than enough sources for a fleshed out stub: its first recorded usage, plenty of contemporary usage by the media, plus the priceless Timothy Dexter anecdote which made me laugh as much as you. I thought it made for a great DYK, but forgot all about it until I thought it was too late to nominate; I was very happy to see someone else had spotted it.

Anyway, while I'm not the type to hand out barnstars, I wanted to say thanks very much for your comment. It was a very enjoyable wee article to write, and it's great to know I wasn't the only one who got a laugh. Reading such feedback is by far my greatest motivator to keep contributing to WP. --DeLarge 14:30, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Revision of main article on Nascar

You should redo the changes I made to the main Nascar article because those were not any kind of vandalism. I corrected the fact that they ran the old leaded fuel through the 2007 Daytona 500, so they ran the lead additives until the 2007 Auto Club 500 at California Speedway, NOT until the 2007 Daytona 500 and I was making a good faith revision there. I'm done playing around and I don't want to end up getting blocked because I change that page back and make it correct and it's construed by mistake as vandalism. Gracias. --76.174.187.63 23:22, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

You can think whatever you want about me but even later in the section it talks about the first race using unleaded fuel being the Auto Club 500 (which I attended in person) and mentions the engine failures that Dale Jr., Martin Truex, and Kasey Kahne had. I don't know how reputable a source you'd consider scenedaily.com to be but here is an article about the unleaded fuel switch from last October that mentions the Daytona 500 being excluded: http://www.scenedaily.com/stories/2006/10/16/scene_daily394.html . If you actually watched the Daytona 500 or especially the Auto Club 500 broadcast they mentioned it several times and put forth the idea that if there was going to be a problem with the new fuel they would prefer it not be at the biggest race of the season, the Daytona 500, because they didn't want something like that to ruin the "Super Bowl" of stock car racing. Also, although I obviously can't "source" it for you, I listened in at the Auto Club 500 and both Truex and Earnhardt blamed the engine failures they experienced on the fuel over the team radios and I heard it on my scanner at the race track in Fontana. Like I said, think whatever you want about me but don't leave your article Nascar incorrect because you have a personal issue with me goofing around on this site. --76.174.187.63 11:15, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Also, I'm not meaning to sound like a jerk, I freely admit that I was the one completely in the wrong in the first place, but the revision that I made to the main Nascar article was a correct one. --76.174.187.63 11:19, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Someone else believed you, so they changed the article to your version. I have left it alone. I consider the topic referenced and the discussion over. Long articles on the Good Article criteria

The criteria state that Good Article candidates should be marked as long if the main text is greater than around 32k. Note that the Mario Andretti article has approximately 20k of main text (according to Microsoft Word), and extensive table markup (especially from WikiProject Formula One's lengthy table). I think your attributing the long tag to the article is misleading. Royalbroil 02:57, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

OK, I'll buy that, after taking a closer look at it. There is a lot of coding on that page. I admit that I went through the list (after encountering a 66k article that was not tagged) and just added tags to everything over 40k. That is the first piece that is significantly over 32K that can be primarily attributed to table construction. I went ahead and removed the long tag, and left a decent edit summary for any who might question it. Sorry about that. Horologium t-c 03:09, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
No problem - and I understand why you made the assumption. This is my first attempt at a Good Article, so I've been real careful dotting the i's and crossing the t's. I asked for help with learning the process, which I got from fellow WikiProject Motorsport member 4u1e. Royalbroil 03:21, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
I can relate to that. My first nomination just got approved yesterday-Coral Springs, Florida. We had to make a few changes at the suggestion of the reviewer, but it was successful. Don't freak out if the first review has a whole laundry list of things to fix; most of them will be easy fixes, and the ones that are a little bit harder will make the article better once they're done. ChristianRock.Net

Hello, a while back you helped me get a page going for Jesus Freak Hideout due to how many links we had for it, I think we both edited the Skillet page before that. I was wondering if you could help me on the ChristianRock.Net page I'm trying to work on, or if you know whether such a page is allowed. The site is a great source for the charts of Christian rock singles, sometimes the only source. Do you think you could help me figure out a little more info to add to it, if possible? Thanks in advance, and God bless.RoryS89 04:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)RoryS89

I reverted your removal of the orphan tag on the James Nichols (murder suspect) article. Your GA nomination of Mario Andretti

The article Mario Andretti you nominated as a good article has passed , see Talk:Mario Andretti for eventual comments about the article. Well done! LordHarris 14:09, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Mario

Ta for the booze. Chin, Chin! Well done with all your hard work - a well deserved GA, I feel. You may want to take a break from the topic for a bit, but when you feel up to it I agree with LordHarris that a Peer Review would be the best next step. Recently I've had most benefit from WP:BIO reviews, but if you do one it would be useful to ask the relevant wikiprojects to comment as well. I'm going to be pretty much out of contact for a week or two - we've finally completed on the purchase of our flat, so the next few days will be spent packing, unpacking, and (I suspect) trying to get the broadband reconnected.... Cheers. 4u1e 21:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I found 2 or 3 reliable sources while sourcing it to the GA level, so I'll be using those to expand the article a bit. One is a new bio from the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, which I'll use to expand his early career. I was then planning on doing a solo GA attempt with my idol Alan Kulwicki, who was a NASCAR champion from my state. Another article that is part of multiple WikiProjects. I might do a few articles at the GA level, until I feel like I understand it better, and then go for Featured Article. Good luck with the house, and have a pleasant well-earned wikibreak! Royalbroil 23:29, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Good stuff. I will have a look at the new material, but not yet. I'm on dial up at the moment and there are other things I should be doing (a lot of other things....) so I won't be editing for a while. Kulwicki was an interesting guy - his article should make a good story, I look forward to seeing the result! Cheers. 4u1e 11:36, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Welcome

Hello Royalbroil. I've been so busy messing around with Wikipedia since I joined, that I would almost forget to thank you for you friendly welcome message! I have joined the Wikiproject Formula One like you suggested and will no doubt also become a member of Wikiproject Motorsport once I get some experience with editing. I must say that I find it surprisingly easy to find instructions, and right now the only question I have is why I didn't think of this before :) Thanks! Bobby Doorknobs 20:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Travis McCoy

Hi! Thanks for the Welcome. I'm sorry for not providing proof. I do have proof, it might not be good enough though. I'm a member of the Gym Class Heroes Boards and we have a thread about Travis' birthday: here. "Becca", the person that provided me with the birthday, is a close friend of the band. If this isn't enough proof for Wikipedia, should I then change his birthday back to what was originally there? Misssosneaky 19:39, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Deletion of Dryve article

Hello,

You were involved in a debate back in March/April regarding an article on the band Dryve.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Dryve

For whatever reason, it was resurrected again for debate and deleted.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Dryve_%28second_nomination%29

Could you be of help in reversing the deletion? I was a founding member of the band and I can fully verify any and all of the information in the article. I firmly believe it meets the requirements laid out in WP:MUSIC.

Thank you and please contact me if you need any more information.

Keith Andrew kickstar1@hotmail.com --Kickstar1 04:58, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

thanks for your response. so how do i get the article back in my sandbox to work on the sources?

Proposed major improvements to the driver infobox situation

Hello there, RoyalBroil. I want to seek your input initially into a major reworking that currently resides in my sandbox. I would like to provide some of the rationalisation that Andy Mabbett was so keen for, but without going that far, so I thought about an infobox that might work well for anyone outside – for example – F1, rallying, and NASCAR or dirt racing. By the same token, the existing infoboxes could use some improvement. It is still work in progress, but your opinion would be valued. One of the biggest issues is how to make the changeover if we decide to make major revisions; I opted not to change the existing infobox, as that would require immediate editing of around 50 articles, so maybe a different name is the only way? I'll keep an eye on this page if you'd prefer to reply here, but I thought I should keep it off the project talk page for now in case that guy sticks his oar in prematurely. Adrian M. H. 10:18, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I've been having ISP problems for the last 6 days, so that's why I haven't been here. The radio on my Wi Fi connnect hasn't been working. I just figured out that it works for about 10 minutes if cold. Hopefully it will be solved very soon. Royalbroil 14:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when.
