Welcome from Ravedave[edit]

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your addition to Tettegouche State Park, your picture is great! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

P.S - I like messages. :) -Ravedave 23:11, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pixel advertising concept[edit]

Are you perhaps looking for Wikipedia:Guide to deletion? Cheers, Melchoir 02:04, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Gave it a try. Maybe a bit hasty, but it seems pretty clear cut that this page is just wrong. But of course everyone has their own opinion! Rufus Sarsaparilla 03:27, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice photos[edit]

The photos you contributed are great. I added one of them to List of Minnesota state parks. I hope you like it here. Jonathunder 17:59, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jonathan. I'm enjoying Wikipedia. I have quite a few pictures of MN state parks (and others) that I'd be happy to turn over to the public domain for use here -- just have to find some time to put them up and attach them to relevant articles. Boxer picture[edit]

Hi Rufus, please upload a bigger quality version of the photo of Morgan so we could use it in the article infobox. Just upload the picture and let me change the article, so no one would complain that you are doing this out of vanity alone... :-) Regards. Loudenvier 14:25, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Loudenvier. I've replaced the image with the new one. Same image page. Rufus Sarsaparilla 21:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We need to hold off on this, though -- it is a professional picture and I really must clear it with the photographer to use the image. I've asked for permision to release it under the Creative Commons Share-Alike license. I'm a believer in free culture, but I'm pretty sure he retained copyright so ethically I should get approval for this. And I wouldn't want to harm Wikipedia by using copyrighted images for which I didn't own the copyright. (Although it certainly feels like I should be able to use it, given that it was our dog and we paid good money for the pics! But alas, we still live in a world where people want to own culture, and a contract is a contract.) Rufus Sarsaparilla 04:29, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you paid for the picture of your dog then you own the rights for this picture, at least to your copy. Think about it: you get a photographer to take a picture of your daughter. All right! Then you want to use that picure on your biography. Did you need to ask permission from him? Certainly not! Unless the jurisdiction on your country/state tells other story... Here in Brazil a photographer could not do something like that. After all he would have to pay royalties for the use of the people (or dog) in the image he took, unless he firmed a contract and paid you for its right of use (not the contrary - you paid him). You can release your version of the picture to the public domain if you like it. I didn't notice this post before, so I've already updated the article. But this is wikipedia, and its easy to undo any wronging... Loudenvier 22:11, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sure -- I like the look of the picture in the article -- thanks for using it. We'll just see what happens. Rufus Sarsaparilla 22:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's a big probability that he is exerting copyright control without actually owning it. If I was you I would sue him. But... It's such a pain in the neck to sue someone... :-) Regards Loudenvier 15:03, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And, denied permission. Major bummer man. Rufus Sarsaparilla 14:34, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
