Welcome to my talk page. Please leave a message below and I will reply on your talk page. Although my email is enabled, I don't check it often so the fastest way to contact me is through this talk page. Thanks and happy editing! Ruhrfisch 12:31, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Distances

I found a system for the distance calculator for the nearby state parks that works for me. I just use the map and check off all the parks that are 30 miles away using the scale and then check the ones that are close to the edge using the distance calculator. It should work. I expanded Lehigh Gorge State Park just now and will begin working on the nearby state parks for the northeastern parks now. Have a great day! Dincher 16:20, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I completed the nearby state parks for Ravensburg, Upper Pine Bottom and Little Pine. Sand Bridge was just a hair over 30 mile from the Pines I left it on. If we round to the nearest mile it fits. I also submitted the suggested DYK. Thanks for that. Dincher 16:11, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

I expanded Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area and Keystone State Park and did the nearby state parks for both. There is another Keystone State Park in Oklahoma. Wiki lists it as Lake Keystone State Park, but the Oklahoma State Parks website lists it as Keystone State Park. This matter will need some attention if you want to look into it. That's it for today and thanks for the copyedits on Lehigh Gorge State Park Dincher 00:44, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip on the pipes. I had no idea! It looks like I will be working on Kinzua Bridge State Park tonight. I will add some more to the frog too and probably the nearby state parks. I was thinking of adding at least the state parks to the counties, but that is for the future. Now I've got something more to do! Dincher 22:11, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I just read your note about the clear circle for find the nearby state parks. I'll try that Thursday. I am at Penney's again tonight. No state maps nearby. I completed Kinzua Bridge State Park it was mostly done. I also just got the note about the groundhog and the cat. I am afraid that our cat, Nittany, yes her name is Nittany, would be groundhog food. Last winter we had mice in the house. They ate her catfood. She looked at them. Pencils, they don't stand a chance, but mice and I assume groundhogs would be okay. Dincher 23:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC) I just found this [1] it provides a short history of the state park system perhaps it could be condensed for the opening paragraph on the List of Pennsylvania State Parks? Dincher 23:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I also expanded Maurice K. Goddard State Park and created a bio for Maurice K. Goddard. Will you tag it? I am not sure how to do it.Dincher 02:19, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Point and Pymatuning

I expanded Point State Park as requested on the article. I got a clear sheet with the 60 mile circle for finding nearby state parks. It works great. This will really speed up the process. Thats all for now. Dincher 18:49, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Slow night at JCP. I expanded both Pymatuning State Parks and created Pymatuning Lake. If their are wikipedia lake project people they might want to know about the creation of Pymatuning Lake. I have some time to look into it, but if you know and have time by all means let them know. I am gonna leave it as is. I don't want to get started on lakes and I really don't want to get started on state parks outside of PA, lately I have been running into them, lots of similar names with PA state parks as I am sure you are aware. I will be holding down the catalog desk again tomorrow. Should get more done. Dincher 02:13, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Goddard

Thanks for the fixes, updates, and additions. I nominated as a co-work for the both of us. The locals are in a tizzy. Snow is in the forecast! Dincher 22:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Oh yeah! I saw the pooch at the pavilion in Ravensburg. That's cool. Dogs are supposed to be exploring. My Dad is in some of the state park pics I added at Christmas time. Dincher 22:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Howzitgoin' I had another slow night here at Penney's. I "completed" Memorial Lake State Park, expanded Neshaminy State Park and started Keystone State Park (Oklahoma). And did some ABC nearby state parks work. I am helping myself keep track of nearby state parks complete by adding the county to the parks that are complete. If all the nearby state parks are labeled with their county they "should" be complete. This is a quick reference, but I am still adding the comment line. Seeyalater Dincher 01:59, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

The threatened snow was a dud here. But they did get some closer to Raleigh. Disappointing. Things are so nice and quiet at school right now. It's "Fun Friday" and the kids are watching Sponge Bob. I just started Shawnee State Park (Ohio). I was tempted to do more with it, but would rather workd on the PA state parks. I guess it could use and info box. I will add it now. Did you see that Lehigh Gorge State Park made DYK? Pretty cool. Dincher 17:55, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I moved by talk page to an archive, I think, now I have a new one, hopefully. I expanded Moraine State Park today. As for computers, I let my wife worry about the speed of it and all that. I would have throw the computer through the window if I was the one doing updates, etc., Have fun with it! Dincher 20:46, 21 January 2007 (UTC) Oh yeah, we really need some sort of checklist. Things can get confusing. Dincher 21:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Editor Review

I just read through your review within minutes of your posting it and am surprised that you weren't as brutal as I expected. Thank you for your suggestions and scrutiny, I appreciate it. —ExplorerCDT 21:29, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Infobox River geography

I've added a switch to the template, if you add a new field map_first and assign it any value then the map is printed first and image last, if it is left blank (or not defined at all), which is the default behavior, it prints the image first. You're right, most articles have the image first though I personally prefer the map first. – Caroig 22:52, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Checklist for PA State Parks

checking duplicate or similar names elsewhere,

  • This needs to be done. Memorial Lake has lots and lots of similar names, Moraine has a few too,

adding the PA county map refs,

  • Yes and add the state parks to the county page

adding townships,

  • Yes and add the state parks to the township page

checking that all have the right banners on their talk pages (WikiProjects PA (Penna) and PA (Protected Areas)),

  • Yes maybe we will learn more about ICUN's. Many of them need to be rated too.

look at spell checking and copyedits,

  • I don't know how to run spell checker on wiki or Do you just copy and paste to a word/works file?

and running the Peer Review MOS fixer tool.

  • Don't know how to do that either.

We could put it in one of my or your sandboxes and base it on the Frog table.

  • Any sandbox will work for me. doesn't matter

We might want to find a way to "break up" the list as suggested on the talk page. It is really long with no breaks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dincher (talkcontribs) 03:45, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

I think that pictures across the top and possibly the bottom would be the best. I really don't like all the bank space on the National Park List the is next to the pictures. The pictures should be diverse, but unique to the state parks, I mean it should be a picture of something thats actually in the park, like the pavilion at Ravensburg State Park or the falls at Ohiopyle State Park. The panorama from either Leonard Harrison State Park or Colton Point State Park. The picture of Point State Park is a good illustration of one of the state parks in a city. A picture of some wildlife with proof that its in the park would be really nice, but probably hard to get. For example a picture of white tailed deer in front of one of the entrance signs. Sounds like a good spot to put a salt lick. And lastly a picture of people doing some sort of recreational activity at one of the parks, with visual proof that it is at the park. What do you think? Dincher 17:53, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Neshaminy State Park was bothering me because I had forgotten to check on all the New Jersey State Parks. It's done now. I am not sure if you are watching Bucks County or not so I'll let you know what I did. I slipped the state parks into the Sports and Recreation section. I had thought about adding a blurb for each park, but I am holding off for now. You're welcome about Goddard, but I think you deserve as much credit as I. Dincher 03:12, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

You would needs lots of time, bait and a really good camera with the right kind of lens to get the animal picture. It would be great, but I am sure very difficult. Neither one of us have the time. There are some good existing pictures to work with. We shouldn't need to get anymore. As I come across some I will share them, possibly put them up on your frog. Dincher 15:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Pictures

I just started a page to store proposed pictures. User:Dincher/Groundhog. We can stick them here for discussion. Dincher 16:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Great minds think alike! If you want, feel free to go ahead and add the pics I selected to the gallery. I am going to work on Oil Creek State Park tonight. It should be fun. I really like the ones with some history to them. I will add my comments about the pics on the groundhog. Dincher 22:12, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't know about Gifford. Might want to ask A mcmurray who started and seems to have written most of the article. We seem to be in agreement with the pics, thats good. I am too tired to really think right now. More tomorrow. Expanded Oil Creek and Penn-Roosevelt. Roosevelt has several similar, but not same names Dincher 04:10, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

So how are we going to go about picking the pics? I think the ones that we both think are just OK or worse should be scratched off first. Should we just delete them or make a note on them that they've been eliminated. Adding some state parks to the county pages. Some are just listed others have a brief description. Not too sure how to proceed. What do you think? Dincher 23:12, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

An article which you started, or significantly expanded, Maurice K. Goddard, was selected for DYK!

Updated DYK query On January 22, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Maurice K. Goddard, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your contributions! Nishkid64 22:28, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Pymatuning Lake

Looks OK to me, actually, so far. I'll add the infobox (and am hunting for a pic as we speak. I like this one, but we'll need to get the Flickr user in question to change the licensing). Don't be afraid to run it by the lake people as well ... this is a pretty major lake for that region. Daniel Case

Tapadh leibh

Thanks for noticing!

I dropped this note to AndyZ recently: "I am afraid your mechanical friend is still displaying anti-Celtic tendencies. I wonder if it's personal as well as by and large it seems to affect articles I have made contributions too. I run Mac OS X 10.4.8 and Safari just in case that may be affecting things. In the meantime, could you do a scan of Mingulay for me? There is a section heading available here. Tapadh leibh (as they used to say on Mingulay.)" If you could have a go at this I'd be grateful as I see there are lots of similar messages for him. Ben MacDui (Talk) 19:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Peer Review Tool

Thanks for the help on this. I probably won't get to it until tomorrow. I'll let you know who it goes. Dincher 02:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I like the state parks in Geography better, too. It's a much better fit. Go ahead with the Groundhog Frog swap sounds good. Time to close the store!Dincher 02:37, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I submitted Oil Creek State Park to DYK. It was a frustrating article for me. I hadn't even thought of it for DYK. Thanks. I sent an email to the Drake Well Museum people. I looked on TopoZone and found that their map shows Drake Well State Park! This is something that DCNR could answer. I think that Drake Well State Park got merged into Oil Creek State Park and that the well site is a historical site within the park. Dincher 04:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I installed the peer review tool on my computer at school. It seems to work! Thanks! The topozone map shows Drake Well State Park and Oil Creek State Park. I did send an email to the people at the oil well office, can't remember if I told you or not. As for mentioning former names, sure why not. Delaware Canal State Park is the former Theodore Roosevelt State Park, I found that when I expanded the Canal article. Last day with the monsters this week! Tomorrow I coach the Quiz Bowl team of 4th and 5th graders at Fayetteville State! Dincher 12:15, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Re:Gifford Pinchot State Park

I'll check it out. It might take a couple days but I will get back to you. A mcmurray 02:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, so I found an online PDF of the DCNR's brochure for Gifford Pinchot State Park. It said 1961, that must be where I got it. It was the official brochure too, I have seen the same things for Kinzua Bridge State Park and a couple others. Anyway, I added the reference to the article as well as changed the infobox and included inline citations for both occurences of the date, hope that helps.A mcmurray 18:43, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Oil Creek

I made some changes to the DYK and the article. I haven't heard back from the museum people. I wish I could go there and find out for myself. Dincher 16:34, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I have heard. Here is the email

Dear Mr. Dincher, Drake Well Museum is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC). OCSP is administered by the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR). Both properties are owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Drake Well itself and surrounding acre have been owned by the Commonwealth since 1931 though the Museum property has grown over the years. The current museum building was built in 1963 and the replica of Drake Well was built in 1945. If I can be of further assistance, just let me know.

Susan J. Beates, Historian/Curator II Drake Well Museum, Birthplace of the Oil Industry, 1859 202 Museum Ln., Titusville, PA 16354

I also heard from the head of the state park. They seem to be willing to help. I will contact them later. Dincher 17:05, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Sbeates made some edits to Drake Well Museum and Titusville. I thanked her and asked her to look at Oil Creek State Park too. She is the historian of the Drake Well Museum. I like the pictures chosen, but I would really like a picture of work done by the CCC included since so many of the parks were built by the CCC. Worlds End and Little Pine pics are very similar. I'll be busy in the real world for the next few days. Dincher 03:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for the help with Oil Creek State Park. I just expanded Ohiopyle State Park. Yesterday I drove down to South Carolina and crossed the Wateree River which is just downstream from Wateree Lake. Both great names! Dincher 19:18, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

The paragraph you are thinking on is the one that caused my frustration. I don't even know what to call it. Some rivers are dry. Dincher 04:09, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Brings to mind the curious fate of the USS Wateree, first stranded by an earthquake while in harbor in Peru, then hit by a tsunami...astoundingly, there was only one casualty, the boat-keeper of the shore party. Choess 06:16, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
So was he buried in a "wateree" grave? ;-) Ruhrfisch 17:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if I would want to go on a boat called Wateree! Thanks for the help with Oil Creek State Park. I think I am going to do a bio on Jacob Nolde tonight. Expanded Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center yesterday. Dincher 21:20, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure about the gauges. The 4'8½" notation (standard gauge) is certainly common in domestic railroad literature, but I'm not sure if the ' and " notation for feet and inches is suitable for "internationalized" publications. A quick check of the most relevant material to hand, NRHS Bulletin articles on Cuban railways and the Panama Railroad, shows that they use "ft." and "in." to describe gauges. I rather think that's preferable, just for reasons of clarity.
Apropos of USS Wateree, the reason I remember that incident so vividly is that there were two illustrations (artist's conceptions) of it in a National Geographic book on geology I had as a kid. The first showed the Wateree sitting on her bottom in the drained harbor, with the sailing ships all tumbled about her on their beam ends, and the smoking ruins of Arica lying beneath the grim bulk of El Morro. The second picture, at night, depicted the strike of the largest of the tsunami waves. It was painted as if at the bow of the boat, looking aft. In the foreground were bluejackets running forward in terror; in the middle distance stood the bridge and superstructure, with the officers, calm in silhouette against the interior light, looking forward; and behind the ship, a terrible boiling comber climbing to the zenith. You can read the account of then-Lt. Billings, of the Wateree, towards the end of this PDF; it's nothing short of a miracle that they lost but the one of the ship's crew, and none when the big wave broke upon them. (27 were lost aboard the storeship Fredonia, which the Wateree had towed there; 25,000! in Arica city.) Choess 05:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Auto peer review

Thanks for your assistance once again. A query - do you have some automated way of adding these irritating &nbsp ; doofers? Ben MacDui (Talk) 23:28, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I am pleased to report that both Flannan Isles and Mingulay are now GAs. Please accept my thanks and those of the inhabitants of said isles. If you have a moment, the Fauna of Scotland would be pleased to accept your ministrations (but don't try to stroke the wild cat!). Ben MacDui (Talk) 23:09, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again. I may not get to tidying it up this weekend, but any comments on Fauna of Scotland are most welcome. I'd be happy to have a bash at FA status if you think it's credible. Ben MacDui (Talk) 12:16, 17 February 2007 (UTC) PS I discovered that a great-grandfather of mine lived in Allegheny County for a while and that I may have distant relatives there (or at least descended from him somewhere in the US). PPS I hope the cheat sheet is useful - I may 'borrow' the toolbox.

Re: county navigation boxes

I'd considered both having something instead of the Ohio flag in the corner and having the cities separate. If possible, I'd like to have a county flag instead, but my image request for Logan County hasn't yet been fulfilled, and I've not a clue whether other counties even have flags. I'm sure your idea would work fine :-) As far as separating cities, I considered that, but all I've been doing are the mostly-rural counties that have almost no cities other than county seats. Between the eight counties that I've done in recent days, there are only twelve cities, and that only if Delphos is counted twice (since it's part of two counties). I suppose that it could be done (especially if this is the standard for such boxes), but I considered it unnecessary. The main reason I've been able to do all this so fast is that I borrowed the coding from the {{Ohio}} template (I haven't a clue how to make a table in the first place) and have simply copy/pasted the information onto different counties. So far, all I've done are counties with articles on all townships; I began at Logan, my home, but have proceeded northwestward because most counties near me don't have township articles. Nyttend 13:18, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Do you think that I should go ahead, then, on using the maps for the templates? ````

Newton Falls, Ohio

Note: I have added this comment originally made here, and then deleted, back to my talk page. It was also sent to me via email. I will answer at the user's talk page and on Newton Falls, Ohio's talk page. Ruhrfisch 16:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

You've chosen to delete entries to the Newton Falls, Ohio page, specifically www.nfl.tc the Newton Falls Leader. These are not your entries and were not made by you. You have no valid reason, nor do you offer any valid reason for deleting them. Wikipedia rules do not allow for anyone to delete entries simply because they do not like the entry. These entries are valid and are as much a part of Newton Falls, Ohio as are any of the other entries listed. Hence, if you choose to delete them again, I will follow the procedures set forth by Wikipedia to file a grievance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NewtonFallsLeader (talkcontribs) 15:09, January 31, 2007

WP 3O

Rührfisch, one of the requirements in the Wikipedia:Third opinion process is good faith on both sides. While I can see that clearly in your posts, it's just as clearly lacking in the editor who is differing with you. In addition to that, his understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines, which he prefers to call "rules," is quite distorted.

One way to deal with him might be to let him follow through on his threat to file a grievance. It will land him in something quite different from what he apparently expects. — Athænara 04:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

And I see he already has. This reminds me of what another user said about "Assume no clue" (see "Wisdom" section on my own talk page). — Æ. 05:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
(A note for you on my talk page, Rührfisch.) — Athænara 09:23, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Rührfisch, I read on your page that someone had malicously (without cause or reason) vandalised your page. Please know that this was not the Newton Falls Leader. Though you and I have our diffences, I have the utmost respect for the work of others...unlike some. I do not condone this type of behavior from anyone, and it saddens me that this has happened.

I see by Athaenara's comments above and on his/her page that you have found an ally...kudos. However, I am not what you two accuse me of...rather simply, I have a free community website that is a valuable resource for Newton Falls, Ohio. Having clicked on a link and read the Newton Falls, Ohio page on Wikipedia, and having common sense enough to compare the links to other sites that were there, I felt there would be no reason why I should not post mine. Forgive me, I don't have the time to search through pages and pages of rules, I used common sense! That being, if links to pages similar to the Newton Falls Leader are allowed (their mere existance on the page indicated that they were allowed), then a link to the Newton Falls Leaderwould be allowed, too. Bam! As Emeril would say. Someone deletes the links. Honestly, being a newbie with Wikipedia, I did't realize the first edit I made actually became a part of Wikipedia, so I thought nothing of it when it was removed; I thought the edit was only a change made locally in a cookie. Then I registered, and added the links back, only to find that they were deleted. Why, I questioned myself. Why should other links be permitted and not the Newton Falls Leader? So I questioned the person that removed the links...while the rest is history, I must say that I have never met such egocentricity. Ok, I have, but I never thought a website such as Wikipedia would allow it to exist. Then I read Athaenara's page, and comments about me. It is becoming apparent to me that a lot of people involved with Wikipedia are ... well, I don't want to violate any rules so I will refrain from going ... you get the point. Now, we are at the point where I must stand up for myself as I believe Wikipedia is fair and will not tolerate what has happened.

Unfortunately, I do have other interests beyond posting a link on Wikipedia. Quite honestly, if Wikipedia wants its users to be schooled in their rules, then they shouldn't allow users to post until they have taken a crash course, passed a test, and have shown that they have read, understand, and are sworn to follow them.

I hope I did this correctly, I don't want to be scolded, as I have been already for not entering a time - or is it time stamp - oh, so much to learn - it really would be great if Wikipedia actually had folks that were helpful instead of destructive! You know, the types of people that see others doing something that didn't quite match the rules, and instead of attacking them, criticizing them, instead of taking on an attitude of superiority, they actually helped guide the user in understanding the rules.

Nolde but goody!

Thats a good one. Humor is a good thing, especially on wikipedia. I went ahead and submitted the double DYK. I also added the wikiprojects to the talk box, but left off the rating, will you rate it please? It doesn't seem right for me to rate an article I wrote. Tonight will be Ridley Creek State Park! Last night was Presque Isle State Park. Later, at home, I will add a pic of old Nolde. Dincher 22:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Well, it looks like all the state park articles have been created or expanded. I really don't know what to think about that. I finished up Yellow Creek State Park just now. Now I can focus more on the featured list. Maybe more bios of dead Pennsylvanias and histories of little towns. Dincher 01:44, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
    • I agree with the fire statement. Its a philosphy I sometimes try to use at school, but sometimes the litte monster that is trying to burn things down is too hard to ignore. The world is filled with knuckleheads I just try to avoid them. Have a good night. Dincher 21:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia Knuckleheads are a lot easier to ignore than real knuckleheads. Especially the little ones that I work with every day. Two of the head knuckleheads were absent today.

There are a lot of people on wiki that seem to be here for weird reasons. Recently Jacob Nolde had an "edit" that you repaired. Someone said on the talk page that it needed an info box. Why didn't they just add the info box? And Keystone State Park (Oklahoma) was listed as being uncategorized. Why not just add the categories? I just don't get it. Anyway time for more nearby state parks. I assumed that your vandal was the Newton Falls problem. It wouldn't make sense for anybody else to do it. Dincher 02:19, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

I didn't think that you were being bossy. It's good advice. Know that I call them "monsters" as a term of affection. I refer to them as monsters quite often. Also sharks, bears, lions, and pythons love to eat second graders. You are right about the username and location. I am a one of a kind along with my wife. I forgot all about Webb Weekly. How do you feel about your work being included, but not cited? Dincher 15:32, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for suggesting another successful DYK! I don't know what happened with Theodore Roosevelt State Park. I could've sworn that I had read up on that. Must not have. I looked and looked for the reference. No luck. Theodore Roosevelt State Park needs to be deleted. Dincher 20:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Reverted your page

Hey, an anonymous IP vandalised your page; I just put it back. --Dayn 16:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Frog

I have worked some on the Frog tonight. I am not very motivated today. Completing the list and trying to get it featured is going to be a big project. I miss the state park articles. So are you freezing up there? Its in the high 30s here. Dincher 23:05, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I think that I will work on the Lycoming County histories. (Although my Dad is not happy with a perceived bias against Germans and towards the British types). I have an old map of Limestone Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Dincher is spelled Dinger! (Again my Dad blames this on the English). Dincher is a weird name, but at least its not Dinger! Not sure yet. I laughed out loud when I read about the continued Battle of Newton Falls, Ohio. Somethings are just irresistable. Kind of like flicking your brother's ears. • That's OK, I like myself enough for both of us.

Hmmm. The weird thing is I have never edited this user's page (see here) or his discussion page (see here). I did warn an IP vandal twice and the original message was from the vandal (see here) who then signs the comment below. Then Mapkid13 replaces the vandal's message with this missive. • As posted below, Mapkid13 is my brother, who is concerned that bad people are editing his discussion page for silly and stupid reasons. So there. Bite Me.
Looks like Centrx has already blocked the IP. I blocked Mapkid for a short period as well, as both of them only seem to be having a lark at the moment and not really doing anything useful and a few pranks. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:38, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Easy enough to do, I'll stop when you stop vandalizing, please. Ruhrfisch 02:32, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I still really like myself - you should try it sometime, it feels good.

  • Oh you're quite the funny one aren't you. Well maybe I'll stop vandalizing if you don't edit my discussion page. And Mapkid13 is my brother. Don't ruin his discussion page either. Got it? 71.250.15.4

Hey Man, I like you

I am trying to create an info box for the Museums etc, but I am not having much success.

The red comes up when I change "protected" to "historic" what's the deal? The Priestly House is all yours. Dincher 22:41, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I am not sure what you did to fix it or what I did not mess it up, but at least it works. Thanks. Its gonna take me a bit to find my groove with the museums. The info on the websites is spotty, although it looks like Ephrata Cloister has potential. Dincher 01:04, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
The updated template looks good to go. Now I need to find the info. The POV in lots of the information for these museums is pretty skewed towards the "glory" of the parks Dincher 21:22, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

There is so much humor on wikipedia! I love it. The pictures of the spaghetti made me laugh. My brother lived in Boston for awhile near the ducklings and in Hanau near the Brothers Grimm Statue. I know that this has nothing to do with anything. The spaghetti was delicious. I wonder if there is an article about the Swiffer? IUCN seems like a case by case deal for the museums and historical type places. Dincher 03:40, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I worked more on the frog tonight. All the areas, as they are listed on the wiki articles should be in place, years too. Some need bodies of water and comments added. I also expanded Drake Well Museum and Eckley Miners' Village. Have a good one. Dincher 02:10, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

We could just split the list in half. It doesn't matter to me when we move the frog to the article. I guess the sooner the better. It's fairly complete now. There is a problem with Hells Hollow Falls picture at McConnells Mill State Park. I tried to fix it but couldn't. Maybe you can. I think I might get that book too! Dincher 17:24, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

One of the reasons that I like you is your suggestions. I don't think there has been a loser yet. Cornwall Iron Furnace made DYK today! Dincher 20:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Conversions

VerruckteDan has been making needed changes to the acres and sq km stuff. But I think I spotted a problem. I brought it up with him and I am now looking for your opinion. Here is what I said to him.

I think that I may have spotted a problem in the opening sentences. Read this one.

Notice the added s on acre? I have tried to drop the s, but can't with the conversion.

I am not sure. It's been a long time since I took grammar. Let's ask Ruhrfisch. Dincher 23:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Splitting work

I like the idea of splitting them in half. I will start at the top and you could start in the middle and I will leave Little Pine for you. How are you going to phrase the questions? Dincher 20:35, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I can email Ravensburg State Park. I won't be doing any of that work until Thursday at least. Like I said, email is blocked at Penney's. I'll be there the next two nights. I got your "real" email today. I went to Elementary School at Saint Boniface and there are lots of Dincher's in East End. Great grandpa moved there from the farm in Limestone Township. Dincher 20:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Go ahead and send the emails if you have the time and inclination. I had thought about the problem children after I sent that last message to you. Sorry. I understand your thinking. Dincher 21:54, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
    • I haven't sent any emails. I like the captions as they are. Clear and concise. I'll send you my preferred email later or maybe tomorrow. I can't access school email at home. I need to count my edits sometime. Dincher 22:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

What are we going to do about the comments for some of the parks. They aren't all that interesting. In fact the same thing could be said about lots of them. Scooby Doo State Park was built during the Great Depression by the Civil Conservation Corps. Or. Mighty Mouse State Park was once a barren wasteland that is now the site of a thriving second growth forest. I have forgotten where I found the National Register of Historic type places template, but I knew where to add it. I will add some more now after I read about Mighty Mouse. The PHMC website is another blocked site here. Doesn't make sense and keeps me from getting "work" done. [www.recreation.gov] does work. This has lots of info on Federally connected lands in PA. Dincher 01:34, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

The frog comments make sense. I guess I was trying to be too specific. I will work on the similar parks tonight and make a generic sentence. Dincher 20:45, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Cornwall Iron Furnace is turning into a big project. I have lots more to do. Don't know when I'll get to it. The real world looms tomorrow. When you have a pick-up truck you automatically get "volunteered" to haul stuff. That's my chore tomorrow. Have fun in the snow. I'll have fun having a truck. Dincher 02:28, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Did a little bit more work on the furnace. Will you check the facts in the blast furnace part? I mean the scientific type stuff. Off to use the truck. Dincher 20:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I just completed Cornwall Iron Furnace and Robert Coleman. Cornwall was a biggie and old Robert just rose up out of it. It looks like your getting lots of info from the state parks. I am going to read the updates now. Have a cheesesteak in my honor. (If you like them). Dincher 22:38, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I submitted both for DYK. Cornwall for the 15th Bob for the 16th. Joey's Place is 10,000 times better than Ruby Tuesday's. We went there tonight. I think Little Pine would've been really nice to see before it was dammed. Thansk for the DYK suggestions. Dincher 03:20, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
    • I had hoped to sleep in. No dice. Another shame that is happening right now is the rebuilding of U.S. Route 15 through Steam Valley. I understand the "safety" behind it, but that road is FUN to drive. I also am not thrilled with them tearing up the Valley anymore than it already is. Oh well. Progress. Dincher 12:34, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
    • Another project that has captured my interest is the Market Street Bridge in Williamsport. I crossed the old bridge almost everyday for much of my life. I am sad to see it go. I have thought about doing a wikipedia article on it. Also on my wishlist is Central Oak Heights [2] in West Milton. My grandparents have a cottage there. I don't think I will ever run out of wikiwork. Do you?Dincher 03:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I have lost track of emailling the parks. Have we decided that you are going to email all of them that we need to know about or do I still need to do some? If so which? Dincher 21:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ruhrfisch,

Thanks for your suggestions! Very helpful! I changed the pictures as you suggested. Quick question, do you think I should nominate the article for FA or get more feedback and deal with suggestions as they come along in the FA process? I greatly appreciate your help with this! LaSaltarella 21:31, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Histories

I was just looking at the histories of White Deer Hole Creek and Larrys Creek lots of this info could be included in the histories of Lycoming County and West Branch Susquehanna River or West Branch Susquehanna River Valley. Have you thought of including the histories you have already written into the mentioned articles.? I created Daniel Boone Homestead today. Will probably do some more Lycoming County township and borough histories tomorrow. Dincher 03:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I will add bits to the histories of Lycoming County and the Valley in a bit. I looked at the info box at Abe's birthplace and really don't see the difference other than the ICUN categories which I still don't understand. Is there something I am missing. Thanks for suggesting Bobby C for DYK! I have looked into the dates question posed by MistfitToys and can't find anything on it. This was a detail I never encountered at all until reading about Daniel Boone. Market Street Bridge is on my list. I don't think I will ever run out of things to do either. Have a good one! Dincher 21:33, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

The last to "featured" articles on the main page have made me shake my head. Avatar and some playstation game? Come on. When is a crick from Lycoming County gonna be featured? Do you have to nominate it for the main page? Or is it supposed to be put there eventually? Created Fort Pitt Museum today. Back to the townships now. Dincher 00:10, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for filling in the blank! Dincher Township would be pretty cool. We didn't get into Lycoming County soon enough and our noses didn't get nipped either. Check out Nippenose Township. Some pretty interesting history there. As for Larrys Creek on the main page, how can you expect to compete with AC/DC or Slayer =). It sure would be nice to see it on the main page. People from all over the world will read about a little slice of heaven in Lycoming County. Dincher 02:19, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I didn't know that Larrys Creek would eventutally be on the front page. It's good to know that it will. What if his toes had been frozen? Would it be called Frowzintows Township? Dincher 22:20, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I bit off something big tonight. And it's not Picture Rocks which I did expand. I got into the history of Lycoming County and thereby Williamsport. Its gonna be a doozy. I need to find a resource that is a bit more neutral than Meginnes. He makes Hepburn and Ross look like money hungry crooks. I have a book at home that I will have to use too. I am going to work on it in bits and pieces. I also want to continue to work on the little parts of Lycoming County and this historical sights in PA. I am not too interested in the museums. Especially the fuddy duddy Victorian and Colonial homes with dusty old furniture. Those would bore me to tears and a good thing about wiki is that I can work on what interests me and not what a boss wants me to do. Dreaming of a cheesesteak, hoagie or cosmo. Dincher 02:09, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for finding the meaning of Nippenose. Dincher 02:24, 23 February 2007 (UTC) Thanks for the other resources. I have them bookmarked now. I probably won't be doing much tonight on wiki. Have fun! Dincher 20:59, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I just created Old Economy Village it was a bore. I am just not that interested in a bunch of people that think the world is going to end and thereby isolate themselves from the rest of us. I mostly just used already existing info on George Rapp and the Harmony Society and added specifics about OEV itself. Wishing it was football season, Dincher 15:38, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

We might as well move the frog to the "real" page today. I see no reason why not. Do you? That SS article is a nasty subject. There is lots of nasty stuff on wiki. I stay away from it. I went through the list of people from PA a long time ago and removed a porn star from it. That stuff just shouldn't be on wiki. The SS was terrible but they do have historical significance. Dincher 18:13, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

US County Template

Response on Template talk:Infobox U.S. County. /Timneu22 15:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I actually made a cooler change to the template. you now have a choice of variables:
founded =
founded date =
founded year =

If you use founded date and/or founded year, you'll have wiki links created automatically. Also, largest city wl' and seat wl have been created as variables so the cities can have wiki links automatically created.

Let me know if you need anything else. /Timneu22 16:42, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Philosophy and Writing Style

I agree with your wiki ideas. Lots of it on here is pretty pointless or down right offensive. I would have concerns about communicating with somebody on an SS project. They might be some people you don't want to contact. Moved the list! Dincher 18:39, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I am getting ready to start expanding Jackson Township. I read this excerpt and knew it was yours. As the crow flies, Lycoming County is about 160 km (100 mi) northwest of Philadelphia and about 265 km (165 mi) east-northeast of Pittsburgh. The unincorporated village of Buttonwood is in the township. In Buttonwood there is a covered bridge over Blockhouse Creek, a tributary of Little Pine Creek. Perhaps I am becoming a bit too familiar with your work?=) Are you able to locate state parks on the map by just using the dots? I mean can you point at a dot and know which park it is without clicking on the link. If you can, this is a sign of spending too much time on wikipedia. =) Dincher 00:16, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Why does the expression always say, "as the crow flies"? Why not some other bird? Perhaps this is something I could research. It is a good point. I will find a way to give a better sense of location. When I first read of Curwenisville, I assumed it was the previous name for S. B. Elliott, Crooked Creek had crossed my mind. I used some C of E info to expand the articles about Kettle Creek and Elk and Crooked Creek Rec Area is on the Penn Dot map on my wall. I've been busy with meetings today. Knights of Columbus. Dincher 03:43, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I found the answer about As the crow flies. When lost or unsure of their position in coastal waters, ships would release a caged crow. The crow would fly straight towards the nearest land thus giving the vessel some sort of a navigational fix. The tallest lookout platform on a ship came to be know as the crow's nest. Pretty cool. Dincher 02:40, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Pennsylvania State Parks

Discussion moved to Talk:List of Pennsylvania state parks#Upgraded list.

Nice work with the updated List of Pennsylvania state parks. I was looking at it and saw some problems, that I can't figure out the cause and hence can't correct. First, the {{convert}} template is not working for the last 6 current parks (Varden - Yellow Creek). Instead it's a link to convert, and I can't find any incorrect wikicode. Second, the {{Protected Areas of Pennsylvania}} template is not appearing, its showing as a link to Template:Protected Areas of Pennsylvania. Finally, I tried to use the {{reflist}} template, and the footnotes stopped working after number 91 or 92. Anyway, just wanted to get a fresh set of eyes on theses issues. VerruckteDan 19:55, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

For the references, is it necessary to have the footnotes? I assume your goal is to have links to both the Wikipedia site for each park and their official page at DCNR. What would you say to just including weblinks next to each park instead of the footnote link. See List of largest cable-stayed bridges for an example. The rank of each bridge is a link to an official website. Let me know your thoughts on this idea. VerruckteDan 03:31, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree with Dan's idea about the web links. It makes sense and shortens the page some. I have no idea how to fix the problems, but I am sure that thre is a solution that we can find. Maybe some of the problems are due to the size of the list. Dincher 18:16, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I hadn't read your reply and reasons for the footnotes before my above comments. They no longer are my opinion. I say stick with the footnotes. As I have been working on Lycoming County I have noticed that the maps are sometimes out of whack. Maybe this is a wiki problem and not a List of Pennsylvania state parks problem? Dincher 18:28, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure having 121 references is necessary (or even desirable) for a featured article status. The List of US Presidents is a featured article and is not over-loaded with references. In fact it has a few notes and then 2 general sources for the whole list. VerruckteDan 18:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
When we put it up for consideration I am sure that we will get a good answer to the question about the references. I noticed that the template is back up. Did you do something to fix it? Dincher 19:03, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I am finished for now. It's all yours. Have a good one! A cheesesteak or cosmo perhaps. Dincher 02:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I just read your note on the talk page. I think that a note should be fine. The list of former state parks is getting to be fairly long. But I am not sure. I can see both sides of the situation. Both for and against lengthening the list of former state parks. Dincher 16:22, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

The Montour Family

I was going to start the history of Montoursville tonight, but ran into a problem. The link for Madame Montour is a redirect to Catherine Montour who must have been MM's granddaughter and daughter of French Margaret. I have placed a lengthy discussion about the Montours on the discussion page for Catherine. Will you look at it and let me know what you think? The Madame Montour from Lycoming County should be the Madame Montour on wiki in my opinion and Catherine should just be Catherine. What say you? Dincher 00:37, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I thought that I was right. The Meginness history places French Margaret at Madame's niece. But the history from 1939 WPA says that Marge was MM's daughter. Again. What's the real deal? Dincher 05:31, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay when I write the history she'll be the daughter. I assume you'll do the same when you get to Lycoming Creek. The confusion about the histories of the Indians is sad. Dincher 05:49, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Do you think that Graeme Park is long enough as it is for DYK? I could add more if needed. Dincher 02:27, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I will add more later today. It's a dusty old house, but it should make DYK so I'll go for it. The timeline is good and there is also a good bit of info about the people that lived there. Dincher 12:26, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
I am hoping to finally be able to get started on fixing Madame Montour. While reading up on her I came across a decent bio of Shikkelamy also known as "Swatana" here [3] you had mentioned an interest in him. Maybe there is a connection to Priestly too same general area at least. Let me know if your interested if not I will put him on my list. Dincher 22:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Well Elizabeth Catherine Montour is up and running. I made Madame Montour a redirect to her. That one was rewarding, but confusing. I think I got most of it correct. Please take a look at it and fix what needs to be fixed. The UPB pic is cool. What a lonely picnic table. I am looking forward to seeing the others. Dincher 01:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I will put the chief on my list. Have fun reading. Dincher 02:12, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Found another refernece to Madame Montour to add to the confusion here [4]. When do you think the list will be ready for FLC? Dincher 04:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I just created my first successful in line reference. I guess that's what it's called. It's at Elizabeth Catherine Montour. Why are those important? They seem to be. I don't know about the spelling of her Mom's name. Some references have numbers in her name too. I went with this weird little French looking thing ç Whatever it is. Dincher 20:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

  • While trying to add more inline references I started messing it up so I have quit for now. I would add this [1] (need to see it by looking at it on edit mode) and it would cut off the article. I have no idea. Dincher 20:56, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I just nominated MM for DYK. I didn't read anything about her pay. Where is that ref? Will look over the list now. I might add a lake or two tomorrow. Unred link I mean Dincher 03:51, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:

Thank you, Ruhrfisch! I edited the article for all your proposed changes. The only suggestion that I couldn't understand was related to the buildings between 1844 and 1893. I couldn't see which important building you had in mind that was omitted. LaSaltarella 21:57, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

  • No worries. I understand. I made the second batch of changes and responded on the FAC page as well. Thanks again for your contributions and much appreciated feedback! LaSaltarella 06:45, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Dusty Old House

Well it looks like I have dived right into this one. Sometimes I just get going and before I know it I have a major production on my hands. Graeme Park that is. I am done for the night, but I am worried about DYK. I have more info to add, but don't want to miss out on DYK. Will I if I stop now and don't start back until tomorrow. By this I mean what is the window of opportunity on it? Dincher 01:43, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

It's been submitted. I will work on it more tomorrow. Hopefully things won't get messed up. Dincher 02:55, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it. I am worn out. Going to bed for real now. Dincher 03:07, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Graeme Park is done. I am looking at the waters on List of Pennsylvania state parks. I blanked Hills Creek it was a redirect to Hills Creek State Park. I also dewikilinked a few and fixed a few others, the creek at Lackawanna State Park that I won't try to spellDincher 22:31, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Rauchtown Run

I posted a couple of questions on Rauchtown Run talk page that you might be able to answer. Dincher 20:24, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I am not sure how to title the Rauchtown Run/Antes Creek article. They may be the same stream, but they clearly have two different identities. I am leaving it alone for now. Perhaps when you have the time you can name it correctly. I saw that the red links are gone. What are you doing with the notes? Dincher 21:51, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
The short list is the one that I think should be submitted and save the long one on frog. Rauchtown Run/Antes Creek also has DYK possibilities. Perhaps ...that Rauchtown Run sinks underground in Limestone Township only to emerge several miles away as Antes Creek? Dincher 02:31, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 12 March, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Elizabeth Catherine Montour, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.
