Welcome!

Hello, Rukminikunjithai, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Ishq bector, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ishq bector requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Shirt58 (talk) 13:39, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ishq Bector

[edit]

As Bector's agents, in writing about him on Wikipedia you have a conflict of interest. As an anyone-can-edit site, Wikipedia is very vulnerable to being used for promotion, and is extremely resistant to being used in that way. That does not mean you cannot write about Bector, but you must observe the restrictions explained in WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. In brief: do not yourself post articles or make any but the most obviously uncontroversial changes: instead, propose the changes you would like in an article on the article's talk page, declaring your interest, and see whether uninvolved users agree. If you write an article, write a draft in your user space (see Help:Userspace draft for how to do that) and propose it at WP:Articles for creation, where it will be accepted or you will be given feedback.

You are right that the first articles about Bector in 2008 were deleted because they were promotional ("fuelled with unrestrained artistic vitality.. Energy, innovation, finesse, and music that commands you onto the dance floor is only the beginning... " etc.) and also because they were copied from websites. Wikipedia cannot accept copied material - see Wikipedia:Copy-paste - unless a formal copyright release has been made as described at WP:Donating copyrighted materials; but in any case material written for other purposes is usually too promotionl or otherwise unsuitable.

The two recent attempts were deleted under speedy deletion criterion WP:CSD#A7: page that does not make "any credible claim of significance or importance." The admission criterion Wikipedia uses is called notability, and is not a matter of opinion but must be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have other people, independent of the subject, thought it important and significant enough to write substantial comment about? There is more detail at WP:Notability (people) and, for musical performers, WP:MUSICBIO.

A very experienced user wrote good advice at User:Uncle G/On notability#Writing about subjects close to you:

When writing about subjects that are close to you, don't use your own personal knowledge of the subject, and don't cite yourself, your web site, or the subject's web site. Instead, use what is written about the subject by other people, independently, as your sources. Cite those sources in your very first edit. If you don't have such sources, don't write.

I have moved your recent article into your user space at User:Rukminikunjithai/Ishq Bector. The links at the top of this page, particularly WP:Your first article, will tell you more. Avoid promotional language and "peacock terms"; the article should not in any way be trying to "sell" him, just saying in neutral language what he has achieved, with sources to verify what it says and to establish notability. The WP:Verifiability policy "requires that all quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged be attributed to a reliable, published source."

File permission problem with File:Ishq Bector.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ishq Bector.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MorganKevinJ(talk) 16:25, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
