Your contributed article, Faridoon Shahryar[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Faridoon Shahryar. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Rajeev Masand. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Rajeev Masand. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. —C.Fred (talk) 01:52, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Faridoon Shahryar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. —C.Fred (talk) 02:10, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced content[edit]

Hi there, please don't submit content like this without including an actual reference. The bracketed "[15]" just looks to me like you copied content from another page but didn't bother to include a reference. See Referencing for Beginners if you don't know how to add references. Also, we don't care about IMDB ratings, because any group of internet cranks can skew an online audience rating. See MOS:FILM#Audience response for instructions on how to deal with real, academic audience response info. Thank you, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:46, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:06, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Original research[edit]

Please do not add your own personal analysis of what critics thought. For example, in this edit, you said that a five-minute video was "positively received". The source you cited, however, says nothing about positive reviews. If you'd like to include this kind of analysis, you have to quote a source that explicitly says it received positive reviews. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:43, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. I took your advice and found some articles that talked specifically about positive reviews from fans, and referenced them while adding back that text. Please check and see if it is satisfactory. Thanks. Rush922 (talk) 04:20, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, seems better. It looks like those sources reported some negativity, but, yeah, they seem to be saying that the overall reception was positive. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 05:52, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, re: this, please familiarise yourself with the sorts of references our community considers appropriate for inclusion. Random blogs and websites like globalvillagespace.com are unsuitable. We're not interested in what amateurs have to say, or what content harvesting websites have to say. We only care what mainstream reliable sources with established reputations for fact-checking and accuracy have to say about any given subject. The mere existence of website does not warrant inclusion. See WP:ICTF#Guidelines on sources for a general list of sites that are and are not considered reliable in the context of Indian entertainment. Filler[edit]

Hi there, re: this and subsequent edit summary, there is no "career graph". Nobody's drawing Venn diagrams to map the various actors' intersections with others. This is filler material. We should be following MOS:FILM for guidance, not allowing unchecked memes from propagating across various articles. Note also that the content is largely unverifiable and could be removed on that basis. How do you expect to prove that Zero is the "second collaboration between the two actresses and Khan after their 2012 film Jab Tak Hai Jaan"? You can prove that these people are credited in two films together, but can you prove that there aren't three? Could they have collaborated on a project that was shelved? Could they have collaborated in some other way, like on stage or writing a novel? It's just vague, context-less filler material that doesn't improve our understanding of the article subject, the film Zero. I won't remove the content, because I don't care enough to, but consider this food for thought from someone with a lot of experience editing Indian film articles. Janhvi Kapoor[edit]

Hi, do you plan to create an article on Janhvi Kapoor based on your draft? If so, you certainly don't mind me editing your draft, do you? I am interested in the article's subject and would like to work on it. Thanks. 2.51.187.130 (talk) 12:24, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sure you can work on it. A few months ago I was in the process of trying to get it approved for reinstation, but it kind of fizzled out and I didn't get many responses. I'm not even sure if she qualifies to have her own article as of yet, as she's only had 1 film release (typically you need more than 1) and has only had a brand endorsement so far, that's about it. But by the time her second film (Takht) comes out in 2 years, then I bet the community would be more accepting of her own page. Probably a better bet for now might be Sara Ali Khan; both her first and second films are coming out next month and only within a few weeks of each other, so she'll be qualified to have her own article much more quickly. Rush922(talk) 18:02, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and, oh, what a coincidence— I just created a draft for Sara Ali Khan at Draft:Sara Ali Khan. You are welcome to help.😀 Also, it isn’t necessary you need to work in more than one film; as long as the subject satisfies either WP:GNG or WP:NACTOR, they qualify for an article. Janhvi certainly does satisfy the former. In fact, look at some of the arguments at WP:Articles for deletion/Sara Ali Khan (the article was created based on her rumoured debut and was kept because many felt GNG was passed. Sadly, it turned out to be a rumour, after all, and the article was redirected.) 2.51.17.139 (talk) 19:14, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not responding earlier, I told myself earlier to respond to my talk page but it slipped my mind. Hmm..yea having looked at the WP:GNG page it seems you're right about Janhvi meeting notability. At the time I made the draft I wasn't sure if she did meet notability or not, as several admins had only told me that an actor needed to have more than 1 film done to be considered noteworthy. But it's true that Janhvi has generated buzz as per her debut and recent fashion activity- she is considered a celebrity now. If you decide to request it to be reinstated as an article, you might have better luck than I did. As for your Sara Ali Khan draft, it looks nice- it seems the commenter below submitted it for creation, but I don't see it on the page now- maybe whenever you are ready, you can request it for submission so an administrator can approve it?Rush922(talk) 04:08, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
[EDIT to the above response]: My mistake, I just read the discussion on Sara Ali Khan's talk page: | you can read it here for yourself. It seems several admins state the actor DOES need to have released on at least 1 film for notability, so as per their reasoning Sara won't count yet as able to have her own page - but it's only a month till both of her films release anyway so it's not too long.Rush922(talk) 04:21, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have decided to join Wikipedia with an account since editing around with these drafts are often troublesome with an IP address, especially one that changes regularly (Technically, that would make me a newbie minus the fact I was an active IP editor for the past 4 years😄). Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your clear edit summary here. Though we typically use a film poster's billing block for determining starring cast, India persistently fails to participate in worldwide norms, which requires us sometimes to have to use other main sources, like trailers, or the film credits, to determine this. Anyway, thanks for the clear edit summary. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:18, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Thanks as well for the feedback. Yea I've noticed that on many Indian film posters they outright don't even mention the main stars -even big ones - instead just listing the producers, screenwriters, etc. Only every so often do I see them listed, like for Helicopter Eela. I've wondered why that is- you'd think the actors would be the first ones listed. Perhaps Indians are assumed to know them already? But yea, had to look to other sources to verify for Zero.Rush922(talk) 06:21, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Edits on Paramahansa Yogananda page[edit]

Your improvements on this page are noticed but when making major changes to this page, first take your ideas to the talk page. I have edited your updated lead paragraph. I am not finished... let's talk.Red Rose 13 (talk) 13:53, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for trimming my improvements as needed - but I don't see why I need to take my ideas to the talk page first; couldn't subsequent users just undo my changes if they disagreed with it, and then if I continued to press for them, then we go to the talk page? Seems easier to me. And what do you mean by 'let's talk'...about what?Rush922(talk) 06:01, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Over the years this page has been edited to perfection by many editors and I am one of the editors who have watched this page ever since. If you want to make substantial changes like you just did, please bring your ideas to the talk page before implementing. Perhaps just editing how you wish is easier for you but not other editors. We like to keep the page steady and add changes when there is agreement. Thanks. Red Rose 13 (talk) 14:24, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I understand where you're coming from but have a couple of issues with this. First is- edited to 'perfection'? As far as I know no page is 'perfect' and can always be tweaked; it sounds like this is more of a control issue for you as to how the page itself appears. I personally found the lead paragraph woefully in need of addition, as it was barely a few sentences long (whereas some pages of less impactful spiritual teachers have far longer ones) - so that shows how 'perfection' isn't always what we deem it.
Another is - how are editors who are unfamiliar with the page supposed to know that 'you' like to keep the page steady? AFAIK there is no rule on Wikipedia that says we have to go by common consensus first before making any changes; otherwise it wouldn't be free to edit in the first place. So the fact that you are only imposing these things on me after my edits speaks to the fact that this sentiment isn't always shared by everyone and thus doesn't always need to be followed. That being said, I can understand the common-sense need for it and will keep it in mind for the future.Rush922(talk) 21:23, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring on Gautama Buddha[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. JimRenge (talk) 11:00, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was not edit-warring. I reverted your undo of my addition (only once), and then when another editor also disagreed, I acquiesed and added a different picture (an alternate statue this time). It would have been edit warring if I had continued to assert that same picture afterward.Rush922(talk) 11:06, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Swami: Original Research[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Swami, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you.

Kate Middleton[edit]

Thanks for your discussion on this article. Totally agree. Given all mainstream media refers to her as Kate, it certainly needs to be in the opening paragraph. Rebroad (talk) 07:46, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem :) Ha, you know what's funny? I made my argument on that talk page exactly a year ago today. I was sort of shocked back then that hardly anyone agreed with me on the talk page, since that name seemed an obvious inclusion; by then I had been in lengthy arguments on other talk pages and maybe was at bit winded out, so I left it at that. But it's good to see that a year later you were able to add it on the front page after all! Rush922(talk) 05:57, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

May 2020[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Satyananda Giri, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 13:24, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Takht (film)[edit]

Hello, Rush922. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Takht".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

Bengal tiger[edit]

Hey : I just saw that you nominated this page for GA status. It is currently rated B-class, and I therefore suggest you first overhaul this to be fit for A-class rating. Since you did not yet contribute a single word to this page : are you sure that you are prepared for a GA review? -- BhagyaMani (talk) 08:10, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for informing me. I wasn't aware of the class-rating system, I just thought it seemed like a good article and wanted to nominate it as such. But if you think it's not ready yet, you can remove or change the nomination; I'm not that invested in it, it just seemed like a good idea. Thanks.Rush922(talk) 09:36, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot and will not remove a nomination by other editors, nor can I review this as I'm one of the main contributors to this page ! I think it needs a lot of work for being rated A. You find the criteria for the different classes at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cats/Assessment#Quality_assessments, see the table titled WikiProject article quality grading scheme. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 09:47, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello :). Per WP:GAN/I#N1, nominators typically work on the article themselves, but it is allowed to nominate if you believe the article meets the criteria. If you think so, you should first contact the authors to see what they think. I think there are two things you can do now:
  • The easiest is to withdraw the nomination by removing the GA nominee template from the talk page (see WP:GAN/I#N3), improve the article, and then renominate.
  • If you feel more ambitious: Improve the article while waiting for a reviewer.
    • The lede needs improving: you shouldn't have paragraphs consisting of one sentence
    • Figure out whether more sentences need updating, for instance the following is cited to a 2000 paper, and may be superceded: "The pattern of genetic variation in the Bengal tiger corresponds to the premise that it arrived in India approximately 12,000 years ago"
BhagyaMani: The A-class is actually above the GA class, confusingly. FemkeMilene (talk) 16:19, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You are right that the table shows A above GA. The site was overhauled a while ago, and I will ask around whether this maybe a mistake. It used to be GA above A. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 16:40, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @SilverTiger12: did you work on the table WikiProject article quality grading scheme in WikiProject_Cats? Or do you know why it shows the A class above GA ?? I remember that it used to be GA above A, i.e. the other way round. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 16:48, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I actually don't know, I got the quality table from WP:Dogs. It might be because some WikiProjects have their own, intensive A-class reviews, and that standard has been circulating around WP? WP:Cats doesn't actually use A-class, though, and just skip B-GA instead. --SilverTiger12 (talk) 17:45, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oops: are you sure about A?? It is mentioned in that table though. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 17:55, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, most WikiProjects don't do A-class. Wikipedia:Content assessment/A-Class criteria explains the more stringent review compared to GA-class: you typically need at least two reviewers. FemkeMilene (talk) 16:06, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I just looked at picking this up and also noticed that you had not contributed to the article. This is a pretty high level article and while not strictly necessary it makes a big difference if the nominator has been involved in editing the article. At the very least I would expect a nominator to have read through the article and be familiar with many of the sources. This almost always involves making improvements. It is also a factor that you don't appear to have much experience with the GA process. Reviewing an article of this size is a big undertaking for a reviewer and as such some (me included unfortunately) may be unwilling to take it on if they are not sure of how involved the nominator is. This may be why no one has taken it up yet. I don't want to discourage you from getting involved in the process and will just reiterate that you have done nothing wrong, but if you want some unsolicited advice I suggest starting with nominating some shorter articles you have been more involved in writing to get a hang of what is required. Also will just add that the A class is a bit of a red herring. Outside the Military History project it is not really used. Aircorn (talk) 23:01, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response, I appreciate your kind insight. To be honest, I'm a pretty light and occasional editor on Wikipedia and so I didn't have any idea of how involved a person should be or should not be when nominating an article. All that happened was one day, I was passing through the Bengal Tiger article and thought that it looked like a good article, from a comprehensive standpoint, and so I thought it should be labeled as such; since it wasn't, I just thought I would nominate it. I just looked up the markup code and added it; it seems I didn't look well enough at the "Good Article Nominations/Instructions" page which hinted that a nominator preferably be well-versed in the topic, etc. I didn't realize there was that much more that went into the process; I just thought it was something impersonal, like any user could nominate an article and let other reviewers decide if it was good or not. I guess in the future I will verse myself better and be more careful though. Thanks again for the heads up.Rush922(talk) 07:28, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In some ways you are right. It is how the process started at least. It has since become a lot more involved. Maybe too involved. I wish you the best with your edits. Aircorn (talk) 19:23, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
