- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}

[edit]Hi Rwenyerson, I just wanted to make sure that you are aware of the policy on canvassing. Best regards, St.nerol (talk) 20:17, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
Blocked from email
[edit]Based on a report to the Arbitration Committee and information obtained from the checkuser tool, it appears that you have improperly canvassed almost 50 editors to an AfD discussion. Accordingly, I am imposing an indefinite partial block from email on your account pending possible further action. Please see WP:AAB for appeal information. This is a checkuser action and should not be reversed by administrators without consulting a CheckUser. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 05:28, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- I have upgraded this block to a full standard checkuser block for violations of the sockpuppetry policy. KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 05:36, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Blocked as a sockpuppet
[edit]Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by submitting a request to the Unblock Ticket Request System.
Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
