Re:

I'm probably going to get adopted by an admin. oh, and have you noticed that the "+" sign turned to "new section"? I asked the person if they got a consensus on the village pump before they did it. What do you think? Should it be a plus sign or a "new section" sign? Nothing444 16:22, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
yea, me too. what do you think of Nousernamesleft adopting me? Oh, and (notice I always say Oh, and) did you ever hear of irc? Nothing444 16:28, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
i dont mind you adopting me, but I'd say I'm on the same level as you. I probably know the answers to all the minor questions. Nothing444 16:39, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

tell me if you disagree with me. Nothing444 16:41, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I will admit you are a better article writer than me. Okay, then it is settled. You are the co-adopter, and nousernamesleft is the main adopter. But please don't treat me like a newcomer, like most of your other adoptees. Nothing444 16:58, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
i guess so. Lots of time means your dedicated to the project, and lots of edits mean you don't mess up alot (see here) Nothing444 17:05, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Your new articles

I've looked at a couple of articles you've created, Ryan, and I just had a couple of suggestions, if you don't mind.

  1. When you create an article for a retired baseball player, use {{Infobox MLB retired}} instead of {{Infobox MLB player}}. The retired template lets you list things like a player's final game. I saw in Steve Rodriguez (baseball player) that you tried to change the infobox, but couldn't. You can't just change "player" to "retired" and expect the template to autochange the required parameters. You have to replace the entire infobox. I made this change on Jim Wright (1970s pitcher) already if you want to see.
  2. Per MOS:DATE, don't include a player's places of birth and death with their dates of birth and death, like: (b. January 1, 1900 in New York, New York). The place of birth is listed elsewhere.
  3. I'd suggest using appropriate biographical stub tags on these articles instead of just {{Baseball-stub}}, such as {{Baseball-pitcher-stub}}.
  4. Use the preview feature and make sure you get rid of as many formatting and typographical errors as possible; go look at Steve Rodriguez (baseball player) again -- I see two things you may want to fix. Go over your edits with a fine-tooth comb and use a spelling checker if you find you make a lot of typographical errors. Do you use Firefox? If you do, make sure your spelling checker is enabled (go to Tools > Options > Advanced and make sure "Check my spelling as I type" is checked).

Hope I'm not overstepping my bounds or anything; just some friendly suggestions from a fellow Wikipedian. I'm glad to see you're engaging more in article writing. I hope these suggestions help make your article writing a little easier. Good luck. Camanda (talk) 17:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Re:

Can you pleasee write co-adopted Nothing444 in you userbox. Sorry. You don't have to. Nothing444 17:37, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Easy just replace it with the following code.Nothing444 17:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
 Done
Nothing, please be careful about how you leave notes on talk pages. You keep adding them to the ends of other conversations and it kind of makes it confusing. For a second I thought you were saying something about what I wrote to RyRy, when you weren't. Use new headings for new conversations. Camanda (talk) 19:14, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Milestone Party

May I request a party on my talk page for your next milestone edit? Shapiros10WuzHere 17:47, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Once again, my apology. Shapiros10WuzHere 17:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Ryry, I noticed that you'd just done a bunch of edits on the Albania, Colorado article. I went to see if I could dredge up enough info to fill out a standard infobox (see Steamboat Springs, Colorado for an example) and found no evidence that this town actually exists, so I've nominated it for deletion. Perhaps while you were editing you found such evidence -- if so, please add what you can and note as such at the AFD. If it's a real place, I'm all for keeping it. — Lomn 18:05, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll crosspost this to the AFD. I'm inclined to call this one a hoax. I just checked the US Postal Service zip code list, the Colorado Election Board, Google Maps, and several variants of "City and Town" lists, and don't see any mention of it. I think we let the AFD run out, but unless someone comes up with proof, I'll delete the article. - Philippe 18:15, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I can, but by ethics, I shouldn't. Why? Nothing444 18:17, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
What? Please elaborate. — Lomn 18:29, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I can edit userspace, but I have a warning that I shouldn't. And I agree I shouldn't. Nothing444 18:31, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Is this in any way relevant to the AFD? You may be posting to the wrong section. — Lomn 18:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
User:Nothing444 is not talking about Albania, Colorado. He is talking about the comment I left him. Please do not add comments to a topic like this and instead, start a new one. We are clearly talking about the Afd nomination.--RyRy5 (talk) 18:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

<-- OK, I'm satisfied that it's a hoax. I speedy-deleted it under G-3. - Philippe 18:38, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Just wondering how the vandal warnings are going. Also, what tool do you use to combat vandalism? --SharkfaceT/C 20:52, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

That's good to hear. Keep up with the vandal fighting. As for AutoWikiBrowser, I am not familiar with the program, as the only tool I use is WP:HUGGLE. Sorry I can't help you out. --SharkfaceT/C 21:01, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Cool, thanks for understanding. ;) And, yeah I noticed that you added Jackie Robinson's article to the GA candidate page. I would review it, but since I'm a member at WP:Baseball, I'm not qualified to review it, so... Thanks for the comments on me reviewing articles, I really appreciate the feedback. Hey, do you think you can do me a favor? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:35, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Do you think you can review Jeff Hardy's article, as it happens to be an old nomination and stuff? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:38, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
True, but didn't I leave a friendly notice/message? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:42, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, its cool, I know how living in Nevada can put someone at ease and stuff. ;) And, thanks for taking your time for reviewing the article. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:05, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Like I said, I can't give the article a GA review, since I'm part of WP:Baseball, but I can make changes and stuff. The article needs a little fixing and a "citation is needed" template is added to the article and its not good to have for a GA candidate. My advice to you would be to look at other GA baseball articles and see if you can get stuff from them to add to Jackie Robinson's article. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:17, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Cool. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:32, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, hey at least you tried. ;) And per here. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:41, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Alright, the second paragraph of the lead needs to be put under "Early life" section, a good article example would be Matthew LaPorta. And, the references need to be fixed, see here for fixing the ref. settings. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:57, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Not sure why you changed my edits on the Austin Wranglers page. It was updating out-dated information, grammar edits, and adding three paragraphs to the History section. Please let those actually informed by the arena league edit those particular pages. I will now proceed to change back to what deleted in the TV and radio section. Games are no longer seen on FSN or AFLNet, and the entire broadcasting crew from 1300 the Zone is dramatically different. The weekly coach show is no longer broadcasted in addition.

Please allow editors like me continue to make Wikipedia special.

Re adminship

I have started to consider running lately, and a few weeks ago I made a request for coaching, though it takes a long time to get a coach, maybe I'll ask someone personally, do you know a good coach? Anyway, I want to get coaching first and while I know that I wouldn't misuse the tools, I'm confident that RfA voters would want to see some time pass after my last block which was only about three months ago (even though it was only semi-valid if you feel like reading through my first talk archive). Anyways, I'd like to wait another while; maybe until after the summer holidays before running. The DominatorTalkEdits 06:07, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

That would be great, I just want to make sure that I'm not bothering anybody who's too busy, you got coaching didn't you? who coached you? The DominatorTalkEdits 06:17, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
I saw nousernamesleft, but both of these two appear to be on a wikibreak! Though I'm in no hurry, if I find a good coach I'll accept it at any time, though I might ask one of those two. The DominatorTalkEdits 06:33, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Just a minor heads-up...

...but you currently have at least 4 typos I can see on a quick skim of your userpage; you might not want to describe yourself as "part of the Wikipedia Typo Team"... (Incidentally, I'm not convinced it's appropriate to have a "This experienced editor is seeking to adopt new users" box either; new users may not understand how to check that you've only been with us for two months.)

This isn't meant to sound patronising at all but just a general be-aware.iridescent 20:44, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem & sorry if it came across as pompous... (BTW another quick heads-up, but if you are aver planning to run for adminship I'd recommend removing the link to the list of editors by edit-count from your user page; as you can see from a glance at the list's talkpage, a lot of the "regulars" loathe this list.)iridescent 20:55, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Could you please stop making small edits to your nomination (for a couple of reasons) - a) the RfA is open and people are commenting based on potentially differing nominations and b) it creates the likelihood of more edit conflicts, which can put people off from commenting. more careful with warnings

Yo, long time no see. Some advice about becoming admin:

I just saw this warning you made [1]. It was on a totally wrong place, unsigned, and didn't specify on what page the deletion had taken place. This means that other editors can't see if the user has already warned of a certain vandalism, and due not being able to see the date on the signature, they don't know when the warning was made without looking at the history. I moved your comment, substed it using "subst:uw-delete" instead of "uw-delete" (this replaces the template name with the actual code from the template, saves server load, and usually gets done by bots like here where a bot corrects me replacing "welcome" with "subst:welcome"). I also signed it with the correct name and date [2]. An admin has to be a little more careful on placing warnings --Enric Naval (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

I have been doing edits on all sort of controversial articles. The more controversial, the better :)
Nah, just joking. I have been editing on many types of articles, and it just happens that some of them have controversies once on a while, and I'm not afraid of getting involved, so I throw myself head-first into the discussion.
However, I have also been editing also some calm uncontroversial articles that have a topic that I like and that nobody ever touches like Grizzly bear. I also edited historical articles that are not controversial but where there are problems to get the facts right, like Crown of Aragon, where the historical sources often appear to contradict each other or are not very clear on what they mean
You see, I like mediating on edit wars to get people to collaborate, so I often put myself on places where there are lots of discussions. It's a personal choice, I guess --Enric Naval (talk) 01:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I also have a lot of stuff to do, but I feel better when I see the nice rollback cat because cats are cute (hell, I put the cat there on purpose so I would see it every time I edited my user page :D ) --Enric Naval (talk) 01:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Since Phillippe joined, let's continue the discussion here.
If I do get rollback, I think the lolcat would stand out on my userpage, considering how it's all orginized.
(to Enric Naval) If you think that's backlogged, take a look at the following:
I didn't so much "join" as "stick my nose in, drop a random comment, then go back to closing AFD's. Continue without me. :-) - Philippe 02:04, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Wooot, so many things to solve on wikipedia :D
Btw, Philippe, I have the RSS feed of that website on my Opera browser, and I can see the images by only opening the feed, so I can look fastly at every single image that appears on that site, lol. I wouldn't worry about being lame, at least in comparison to me, since, for example, I also read VG Cats, Kevin and Kell, Freefall (webcomic) and Badly Drawn Kitties. Have I already mentioned that cats are cute? --Enric Naval (talk) 02:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
And Sabrina Online :D And I'm sure I'm forgetting a few --Enric Naval (talk) 02:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Just in reference to this same topic, RyRy, you might want to fix your warning here -- you didn't specify the affected page or sign the post. Have you ever used Twinkle? You might want to start. It will auto-subst and auto-sign your warnings. Camanda (talk) 03:14, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

AfD closure

There are certain times when a non-admin can close AfDs, such as a unanimous keep, a withdrawn nomination, or a case where an admin deleted the article but forgot to close the discussion. WP:DPR#AFD gives the instructions on how to close an AfD discussion. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 02:38, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Yep, what he said. Be really careful though, because they can get folks in a lot of trouble if they misjudge whether or not to do it.  :-) - Philippe 02:44, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I understand. I'll just close obvious ones. But if I'm really not sure, I'll just ask a continuos contributer there like Bobby.--RyRy5 (talk) 02:45, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, looks like you've got the format just right. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 02:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I undid that one. It's best not to close an AfD as delete unless the page has actually been deleted, otherwise admins might get confused. If an admin deleted the page and simply forgot to close the discussion, only then can a non-admin close a discussion as a delete (see WP:DPR#NAC). Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 03:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, usually non-admin closures happen only on snowball "KEEPs" (unanimous) or on ones where an admin like me has perhaps had a Guiness too many and deleted the page but forgotten to close the AFD. - Philippe 03:29, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I just figured that out. Hence, me closing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Xena: Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:34, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Except that you forgot to remove the AfD notice from the article and and add the result to the article's talkpage. Probably best if you read the instructions here! Best, Black Kite 06:44, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, i think that's a close that can be acceptable. I wouldn't really go into stuff about "now notable" though, because it gives folks grounds to dispute. I generally don't opine - I just close it and say keep or delete. Sometimes I have to explain, but you shouldn't be touching those anyway. :-) - Philippe 03:35, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I understand. But is copying one sentence copy-righting?--RyRy5 (talk) 04:16, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes, you can't just cut and paste from a copyrighted source- even just one sentence. I assume eventually in your schoolwork you'll learn how to use sources. Until then I'd stick to simple stuff like fixing vandalism rather than difficult stuff like making entire new articles. Friday (talk) 04:29, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Trading spaces

Hi RyRy5. I want someone to create me an awesome user page, basically just using the text I currently have on the page, but looking uh-may-zing. The page has to be unique, though - I really don't want a page that looks like everyone (or anyone) else's. I know this is a lot to ask, hence why I am willing to award someone (bribe?) with a free CD or DVD from Amazon for doing so. If that still sounds like something you could do, let me know. Thanks. And congrats on the adoption, Steve is a good guy. Neıl 09:29, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Cool, but please don't just copy someone else's page. If you're going to do that, don't waste your effort. I activated your rollback again, don't misuse it. It's to revert obvious vandalism only - absolutely nothing else. Neıl 09:06, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I do what I can. :) Oore (talk) 18:54, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I have asked you a question in your Admin Coaching page. –LAX 22:48, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Note

I'm not sure, but as far as I know, the only reason he was vandalizing after the first two incidents was to find out how I was reverting him so fast. I did answer, but apparently, he didn't see it. I don't know, I feel kind of bad about him getting blocked. Oh well. At least he got his question answered... Regards. Thingg 00:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. btw, just a random question, do you think it's weird that I feel bad about him getting blocked? just wondering if I'm going crazy. Thingg 00:33, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: I'll leave this one open, and fill it in later

Your question

I have answered your question on my talk page. :-) It's a good question, and a situation that we often see. - Philippe 02:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Justin_Masterson

The personal life section is totally irrelevant. The fact that he got married on 2007 or that he is a cristian or that he has a brother or a sister are non notable facts that can just be removed from the article.

I suggest adding "Masterson is married and resides in Beavercreek, Ohio as of 2008" at the end of the carreer section, and deleting the personal life section. Since there are no notable facts on his personal life, and he is notable only for his achievements on baseball, that section would stay a one-liner forever.

Motion star pictures and some rock stars get huge personal life sections because they make notable things like marrying other famous people, getting divorced after saying on national TV that people should never divorce because it's not being a good christian, adopting kids as a famous person, etc. This is clearly not the case here. Normally, you should never start a section unless you expect to have material to fill it, so you shouldn't start this section unless Justin starts making notable things on his personal life that get reported on newspapers.

Maybe, as an option, changing "Personal life" for "Current life" and adding details about his current situation on baseball. That would a natural progress of the sections: "Early life" --> "Carreer" --> "Current life" --> "Pitching". A progression describing the events on his life as they happen, and then the details of pitching at the end.

The rest of the article looks quite good to me and I can't see any problems, other editors may help you to improve it further. Good work, man :) --Enric Naval (talk) 02:19, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

Too soon, I think. Get a few more months editing behind you and check again. Dreadstar 04:48, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Good job

On getting those 300 warns. --SharkfaceT/C 14:43, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Ryan. Don't know if you know or not, but Masterson is supposed to make his major league debut today against Anaheim. Should give you some new material for the article. Camanda (talk) 15:05, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Your reversion on Nicolas Anelka

I realize you are on recent changes patrol, but in this case, the IP was right. (I almost reverted his readdition of the edit, but I decided to make sure before doing so.) his official website's biography translated from French Based on this, I think you should remove the warning from his talk page. Regards. Thingg 00:17, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Not really, but I just wanted to let you know. Regards. Thingg 00:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Request

Please email Alison or the list next time—diffs containing personal information should never, ever be posted publicly, barring a few exceptional circumstances (I believe reporting a threat of violence on AN/I, for instance). I've deleted the revision, and I'm sure Alison (or another oversight) will nuke it for good as soon as possible. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 01:35, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
