David Stove a Push person?[edit]

Hi, SCF71. Would you please care to justify inclusion of David Stove in that list of Push identities? In my own time in Sydney (1958-1975), I never personally encountered Stove, though I spent half of my life in Push circles. On the other hand, as a member of the SU Libertarian Society in 1958, I attended a series of meetings held by Jim Baker to consider and rebut some trenchant criticisms written by Stove against the Libertarians. In those circumstances, he would have been the centre of lively discussions had he appeared in the pub, but he certainly did not! Nor did he ever choose to submit his contrary views for inclusion in Libertarian publications. So, how do you support his inclusion? Cheers Bjenks (talk) 15:26, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bjenks. I based my edit on the article for David Stove on Wikipedia (Life, Para 2). On rereading this, I think I misinterpreted, as it only says that he was part of a group some of whom later became part of the Push, not that he was a part himself. Based on your experience, I am probably wrong to have listed him in the Push. Sorry - I will be more careful in future.

I'm not 100% sure, and the Stove WP article places him before my own time. Possibly he had a brief flirtation with the Push and got out. That wasn't uncommon—the Push could be very harsh with folk who didn't fit. I hadn't looked at that article before and am surprised at the effort someone has gone to over someone I would have regarded as a quite minor figure. Maybe he was a thoroughly pro-Anderson Andersonian, i.e., disposed to take Anderson's side against Baker and the Libertarians because of the way they split from the Free Thought Society. His critique was quite amusing: he accused the purportedly amoral group of being rampantly moralistic, citing their contemptuous term 'deadshit' (applied to a perceived dull person) as an example. Anyway, the critique was taken seriously and many a swig of beer was taken as we tried to understand and rebut it! People from the '40s generation whom I got very close to, eg, Dick Appleton, Lex Banning and others never mentioned Stove as a drinker at the Tudor or Lincoln. Anyway from the WPO article as well as these glimpses, it would seem safe not to include him—and he himself would probably not have wished to be thought of as a past Push associate. The article Sudha Shenoy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not a notable economist. No claim made for notability. Clearly fails WP:PROF.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
