How do I replace an old image file that I uploaded with a new one? I would like to delete the old file if possible... SCGamecock1211 (talk) 16:00, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The way you did it at File:United States of Jihad cover resized.jpg, via the "Upload a new version of this file" link in the "File history" section. Deleting the older version of the file requires an admin; you can summon one by adding the {{Orphaned non-free revisions}} template. In this case I'll delete the older version of the book cover. If you upload the new version under a new name, you can tag the older with the {{Di-orphaned fair use}} template. Huon (talk) 20:39, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: I have a similar situation with File:Manhunt_cover_resized.jpg. Did I format the deletion request correctly on that one? Thanks in advance. SCGamecock1211 (talk) 20:11, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thanks, everything is OK there. The older image will be deleted in a few days. Huon (talk) 21:38, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Placing templates

Template messages vary in their placement. For example, a {{merge}} notice goes at the top of the article, but the {{stub}} message goes at the bottom. Read the documentation at the bottom of a template for instructions on how to make use of it.

To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd}}
