Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Hello, SUNY Empire State. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Empire State College, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Hi. I don't understand. We are a university. Why can't our user name reflect our university? I am the chief communications officer, and much of our Wikipedia page is now outdated, as I don't think it's been updated since 2016. Almost every college and university has a Wikipedia page. Also, we have policy against the WP:Conflict of interest. If you are affiliated to the Empire State University, and you obviously are, you shouldn't directly edit the Empire State University page, because that would be the conflict of interest. Vanjagenije (talk) 18:50, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In short:

(a) Wikipedia does not allow usernames that imply they belong to a company, organization or a group. That is because user accounts may only belong to individuals. Your username implies it belongs to the university. That is why you have to change the username (see above how to do it.)
(b) It is not allowed to directly edit pages if you have the WP:Conflict of interest. You are free to make WP:edit requests at Talk:Empire State University. Vanjagenije (talk) 20:40, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
