Welcome![edit]

Hi fellow Wikipedian, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: (~~~~). This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =) Mailer Diablo 05:18, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikics template[edit]

Hi Sabik! Recently, I created a new template to indicate English Wikipedia users who also contribute to the Czech Wikipedia.

Template:User wikics

Feel free to add it to your userboxes if you like it (and if you actually contribute). Happy Easter. Daniel Šebesta (talkcontribs) 22:34, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nepokoj[edit]

Are you sure that "nepokoj" is a Czech word for a watch's balance wheel, as you have written in the Jára Cimrman article? Jan.Kamenicek 22:05, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty sure… Hmm, the Czech wikipedia doesn't have the page, but it's mentioned on Čas, for instance. It's definitely some part of a watch, anyway, but I'm pretty sure "balance wheel" is right. Now if I could find a reference for it. --Sabik 05:21, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks very much for the explanation. Jan.Kamenicek 12:08, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Metalanguage[edit]

Hi I saw that you had deleted a sentence in Tamil wikipedia without any discussion. Please understand that almost all indian languages use sanskrit-derived terminology to describe their grammar. Tamil uses Tamil terms from time immeorial (at least since 2300 years ago). In English too grmmatical terms (except in very modern times - less than 100 years?) come from other languages - for example noun comes from latin nomen meaning "name." The english term verb comes from Latin verbum, the term gerund comes from Latin gerundium etc. The meta language for tamil is Tamil from more than 2300 years ago- at the least. I've reinstated that sentence --Aadal 17:38, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw your article and note that there is only one reference that uses this term. From a genetic standpoint, there are sources of variation and there are mechanisms that stabilize and cause fixation. I do not know of terms such as this being used. Could you please add further references and show how it relates to current understanding of species and speciation. Shyamal 05:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Frozen plasticity, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Frozen plasticity. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Bueller 007 (talk) 08:36, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
