The article Sean Ryan (musician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:MUSIC.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Regancy42 (talk) 09:38, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • As you may have noticed by now, I am inquiring a bit of help concerning the article I have just published. Putting aside the obviously enthusiastic amounts of edits, before I had taken the time to reformat and write the said article it had been flagged under the claim of, Fails WP:MUSIC. Granted, I feel my page meets at least one or more of the listed criteria for musicians on Wikipedia, as the notoriety in the music business and my more noticeable work is fairly new, yes, but has been featured in various notable radio broadcasts and published on a highly reputable label.

I was not only wondering if the steps I have taken have helped to successfully challenge the notice of deletion, but what I could do to improve it even more.

My gratitude goes out to Regancy42 for letting me know of my errors, I am new but am quickly learning.

    Sean Ryan

    • Sean, to put it short and sweet, the article needs references from independent, reliable sources that help establish the subject's notability. The references in the article are all to listings or to text on label websites. In the welcome template above, click on the "five pillars of Wikipedia" link and look at the first entry and its links. Good luck. Drmies (talk) 19:22, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thank you! I will definitely give them a thorough read.

April 2010[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself, as you did at Sean Ryan (musician). This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. -- Rrburke (talk) 22:14, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Sean Ryan (musician), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Sean Ryan (musician) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -- Rrburke (talk) 00:12, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, SaneYarn. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Dreamcatcher (Nitrous Oxide album), you may have a conflict of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Widefox; talk 22:04, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

July 2014[edit]

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Sean Ryan (musician). Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. and business promo - your work Widefox; talk 22:09, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
