Notability of Simon bruce

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Simon bruce requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Epbr123 (talk) 23:57, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Simon bruce

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Simon bruce requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Jons63 (talk) 00:38, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Simon Bruce. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. Fabrictramp (talk) 01:09, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Simon bruce, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;

    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

The page was taken down because I used the bio I made on the webpage here also. I am/was the author of both. Now I have changed the bio so there should not be any copywrite infringement.

You are still in gross violation of our restrictions on conflict of interest. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:50, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I read them, can you please elaborate or be more specific?

He is your client, by your admission; thus, you have a conflict of interest, since his prosperity is in your best interest. Since you have a conflict of interest, "...you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
and you must always:
avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography."
Which part of this is unclear? He's your client; you shouldn't be doing this. If you feel he qualifies as notable, then request the creation of an article about him, referring people to this draft; but don't try once again to create a page yourself. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:03, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to provide you with some help here Astronaut (talk) 16:04, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} This page is locked. I have rewritten the bio to be different from the one I wrote on the webpage. I have re-edited to be compliant please reinstate this page. Moved from subpage

All of the images you have on that page have a copyright issue that needs to be resolved. Since the article was deleted twice previously for copyright reasons, I'm not willing to unprotect the title until that is dealt with. In the future, you can request unprotection at WP:RFPP. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:06, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have made some progress changing the draft Simon Bruce article. Please remember that the suggestions I provided were simply some pointers to set you off in the right direction, and are not an exhaustive list of all that needed to be done. For example, you might like to add some references to establish that Simon Bruce is indeed notable as defined by our policies. If you decide to continue, I believe the article has some promise. However, if you decide you really don't want to use wiki anymore, your account cannot be deleted (for GFDL licensing reasons), but the pages you have created can be deleted by replacing the page content with {{db-author}}. Astronaut (talk) 19:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And the same with me; just pointers, but it might help the article survive. I understand your concerns, there's quite a thin line between promotion and notability. Sources are what's needed. If he was a child prodigy, who says so? etc. One of Wikipedia's fundamental policies is not to write an article about yourself or anyone you personally know, which is why you were criticised for conflict of interest. Looking at the whole article, I would mention the "youngest winner" bit in the opening section (above the contents page: this is called the lead). That strikes me as notable material and should be mentioned as a notable attribute. Also, the article has only a few sources. Ideally, if he's notable, then you should be able to rustle up some secondary sources (newspaper articles, magazine articles, uninvolved but reliable web sources). Don't use blogs or wikis to verify, because those can be edited by anyone and are therefore considered unreliable. Per biographies of living persons, unsourced material that can be challened (ie the sentence with the [citation needed] tag) should be removed or backed up by reliable secondary sources. On a side note, editors at WP:AFD, WP:CSD and WP:PROD (the three main deletion areas) look up notability using a Google search. Nothing strikes me as notable except the official website, which is okay but obviously not an uninvolved source. If you want to make this work, you'll have to hide the fact that you have anything to do with the subject whatsoever and write with a neutral tone, as if you were just a typist in a courtroom. The bare facts and references at minimum; personal opinion isn't an option, unless you're quoting a reliable source with someone giving their personal opinion. It's difficult, but I can see you're willing to make this article work. Best, PeterSymonds | talk 22:18, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
