Article issues

[edit]

Hi. I just wanted to reach out to you with regards to this edit you made to the health equity page.

For starters, you shouldn't replace that much text with a single edit. When you make edits to existing text on a page, other Wikipedians can accept or reject your changes. If you make a number of smaller edits, other people can accept or reject your changes one piece at a time. When you make such a large edit, it's extremely difficult for people to keep parts while rejecting other parts. As a result, the whole thing is likely to be reverted.

I'm a little bit confused about where you got this text from. Some of it appears to have been copied improperly from the health equity article (the references are there, but only as numbers like [65], not as actual clickable references). When you then copied that text back into the original article, you replaced properly-formatted text with broken formatting. You need to make sure that you avoid things like that. For copyright reasons, you also need to make sure that you attribute text when you move it around. Make sure there's a clear link back to where you got the text from, even if it's only in the edit summary.

In Wikipedia articles, bold text should only usually be used in the first sentence of the article lead. If you're going to create subsections like this in the article, you should create them as subsections. You should also make sure that your tone is appropriate. I realise that you're working from a section that's very poorly written, but you should look around and read some better Wikipedia article. Notice how the text is structured.

You should include links to other articles in the text you add. You should, of course, make sure that everything is supported by appropriate citations. When it comes to health-related content, you need to stick to the very highest-quality sources, as outlined in the training module about editing medical topics. Look for peer-reviewed articles. Definitely stay away from news articles of any sort.

Remember that you're writing for an international reference. In a general article like this, make sure that you aren't just writing about the situation in one country in the world. Make sure that what you write covers the breadth of the topic, worldwide. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 04:22, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
