Hello, I'm Gtwfan52. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Oxnard, California, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. in addition to being unreferenced, this is way too much detail.   1. I did not send you an email. You received an email from Wikipedia notifying you that this page had been changed. The best way to contact another editor is to post on their talk page (As this is your talk page, every editor also has their own).
  2. As an employee of the city, you have a conflict of interest for the article on Oxnard. See WP:COI for further information.
  3. Discussion on the content of an article should take place on the talk page of the article in question, in this case Talk:Oxnard, California.
  4. As I told you above, the information was unreferenced and way too detailed. It is entirely appropriate to put the mayor and the city manager in the infobox (The box on the top right of the page that summarizes information in the article), as long as it is appropriately referenced. As a person with a conflict of interest, you should never add any unsourced information to the article.
  5. I will leave a illustrated set of instructions on how to add references after this discussion.
  6. Strictly informational things like the name of the mayor and the city manager can be cited to the exact page on the city's site, although secondary, reliable sources such as newspaper articles are preferred.
  7. The most important elected officials, generally just the city council and the mayor, can be listed in a subsection of the article titled "Government". This should be properly referenced to a secondary source (Undoubtedly, a newspaper article exists on the election).
  8. The department heads are out. That is the kind of information that is unencyclopedic. Think about it this way. Would someone in London care who your fire chief is? In addition, since they are employees without a fixed term like elected officials, changes could bring up privacy issues and even more simply, maintenance of the article issues. The link to the city's website will have to suffice.
  9. The best accepted practice for people with COI issues is to go to the article talk page and request edits be made, providing references for what they want. I will monitor it just in case no-one else is.
  10. I will also leave you a link to a Q&A forum on here for new users called the Teahouse, so you will have a good place to go with any technical questions (Trust me, you will have plenty. One thing editing Wikipedia is not is intuitive!)

As I am sure you realize, Wikipedia is a collaborative process. Please don't take offence at things being reverted. As I am sure you can tell by now, the article on Oxnard is strictly about Oxnard and in no way "belongs to" or is "for" Oxnard. Please do not add any content that is written in a promotional tone. Adding references can be easy

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "Templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the web URL (or "website link") becomes inactive in the future.
  4. Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
  5. Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
  6. Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.
  • Before clicking on Save page, check that a References header   ==References==   is near the end of the article.
  • And check that   {{Reflist}}    is directly underneath that header.
7.  Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Map showing Oxnard neighborhoods.jpg)

However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. HI! It's me again. This map really wouldn't be of any use in the article. As it is here under "fair use", a higher resolution version cannot be used. I don't have the best eyesight in the world, but I cannot read anything on the map, even with a magnifying glass. Since there is already a link to several mapsites on the page (the coordinates at the very top right of the page lead to that), the only useful info that could be derived from the map is the neighborhood layout, and if it can't be read in the size it is now, it most certainly wouldn't be readable in the smaller size it would have to be on the page.
