Web page

Interesting web page you have. I noticed one error on it.

The picture of Coprinellus micaceus is not that. The mushroom in the pic is close to Psathyrella gracilis.

Template_talk:Did_you_know or how to graffiti the mainpage with cool articles. I have piggybacked and expanded Russula brevipes andHydnellum so they qualify for a five-fold expansion. Always nice to get fungi on the mainpage :) Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:23, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Citations

Great work on expanding the aspartate carbamoyltransferase article! In case you haven't already seen this, check out the template filler tool. Given a PMID, you can quickly create a fully formatted {{cite journal}} template that can be directly copied and pasted into a Wikipedia article. Using this tool can save you a lot of work and insure that citations are displayed in a consistent way. Cheers. Boghog2(talk) 08:36, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

collaboration maybe

One article that would be great to get up to GA or FA is fungus. Now I am a doctor not a mycologist, so I am sorely lacking on the wherewithal and technical side of things, but I think this would be great to work up. The other fungal expert is Peter G Werner, who may also help out. Cheers,Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:20, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Actually I forgot; the other one that I worked up but stalled on due to lack of reliable sources for pop culture refs was Amanita muscaria. Let me know anything you feel is missing or otherwise worded oddly. I did Amanita phalloides as an FA last year. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:39, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi - thanks for all your contributions to Wikipedia & mycology. When I see your moniker I always assume it is for the best when a change is made or vandalism is removed. Orbiliaceae

Could you try to think up a different DYK hook for this entry? The current one isn't drawing me in because it's not really specific. Perhaps describing one particular nasty mechanism would be better. - Mgm|(talk) 15:16, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Brainy fungi

I posted something here, but it didn't get saved. :( Anyway, here's another source with photos, and to my eyes the clever Crepidotus versutus is the braniest looking one by far[1]. The way the gills (or whatever you call those flaps) is particularly brainy looking. I posted from another source too, but I guess it's lost now. I'm confident in my theory. Please contact the Fungiologist who named it to confirm I am right. Gracias. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Oh yeah, and the other comment I made that didn't get saved was that the fungiologist's whole "perhaps it was named for" theory was pretty weak. And in the article it says it's oriented for growth and in the DYK discussion I think you say it's to maximize spore dispersal. So my theory at least has the advantage of simplicity and consistency. Oh and I think one source said it is kidney shaped. Like a brain cross section right?ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:57, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, just ignore the above. I'm taking flak for "disrupting" the DYK process. I enjoyed your article and the photo. I can't find an explanation to confirm the one offered or an alternative. Take care, Happy New Year. ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:14, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Lichens

Thanks for all your great work, you are doing a great job of filling out the fungi content on Wikipedia. If I can make one suggestion: when adding lichenized fungi, I think it would be useful if you tag it with the Lichens category, as well as just Lecanoromycetes. Thanks for the heads-up, I have nominated the photo. I may even work on the article too, very interesting mating behavior :) Sasata (talk) 15:49, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Fungi cats

Just read through Cyathus stercoreus and Cyathus olla and added them to the portal- nice work! You always find such weird species. I was just dropping by to let you know about categories- when you're creating a fungi article, there are several "easy" categories it will fit into quite quickly, based on the continents on which it is found. They are Category:Fungi of Europe, Category:Fungi of North America and so on. There's another for its edibility-Category:Edible mushrooms and Category:Inedible mushrooms (more at Category:Fungi by edibility, (not quite sure what would count as a mushroom and what wouldn't...) and, in this case, Category:Medicinal fungi. You can see the various categories that are available to you here-it'd be great if you could sort your new articles under a couple of relevant categories. J Milburn (talk) 10:23, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for reminding me, I've been lax with putting in categories other than taxonomy cats. BTW, nice find with the Aseroë rubra pic. I've been scanning the MO website for more candidates, but it's slow-going – 35,000 images to scan through, and only a minute fraction are worthy of FP nomination. At least it's good practice for mushroom id skills! Sasata (talk) 10:59, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
In looking for FPs, I'm gonna work my way (gradually, I don't want to flood the FP regulars) through the selected pictures on other projects and the pictures from the selected species. I'm don't think I've quite got the hang of what the FP types like yet- for instance, thispicture looks great to me- high encyclopedic value, looks good at high resolution, striking, the fungi stands out from its surroundings well, nice colours... but something's telling me they won't like it. J Milburn (talk) 10:01, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't quite have the hang of it either, apparently. I was considering submitting that one as well, but think perhaps the detail is a tad fuzzy viewed at full size. Wouldn't hurt to try, though. Sasata (talk) 20:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I've given it a bash at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Letharia vulpina. Anything that doesn't get through FPC could instead be sent towardsvalued picture candidates- the standards there aren't quite as high, but it does need to have been used in the article for at least a month before it is nominated. I've got one there at the moment. J Milburn (talk) 17:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Serotonin syndrome GA

Hi there, thanks for doing the GA review for SS. I think I have addressed most of your suggestions, let me know if I missed anything or if further clarification is required (I added some comments to the review page). Thanks again, cheers - Mr Bungle |talk 01:04, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

GA review Nitrogen-vacancy center

Thank you for a thorough review and corrections. Yes, the article is not ment for general audience. I have to contemplate on how to be correct and brief, but also understood by everyone in specialized fields of science.

GAN for Cyathus

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. RfA

Hey there :), I was just reviewing some of your work at DYK (By then the way, an early congrats on the 50 DYK medal your going to be getting when the hooks I just approved get onto the main page :) ) and after looking over all of you contribs, I think that you would make a great admin, if your interested in giving a RfA a go, then just leave a note on my talk page and I'll write up my nom and we'll get this going :). All the Best, Mifter (talk) 00:17, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Aaww, you beat me to it. I'd be happy to co-nom too. Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:08, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I don't really have any interest in taking on administrative responsibilities. I've only been active for a few months, and feel I still have to learn my way around in some areas. Also have no desire to use "the mop"; being dad of three young ones gives my plenty of real life experience with that  :) I may change my mind in the future, but for now just want to focus on writing content. Sasata (talk) 02:42, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough - the best use I have found is being able to semiprotect high vandalism pages, as well as moving pages over others requiring deletion.Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:09, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
If I ever have to do those things, I'll just give you a call :) Sasata (talk) 05:13, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for all your comments! I have addressed just about as many as I can right now (I will probably be in the library later today and can look for the missing page number you asked about); I've stricken the comments that were easy fixes (typos and such), but for some comments I'd like to hear your input as to whether or not my edits have actually resolved the problems, so I haven't stricken those...I also left some questions about how to proceed with some things (mostly about the lead images, and about having a brief run-down of the main linguistic subfields somewhere), so I'll wait for your signal before doing much more.

Thanks again, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 16:22, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for all your help with this thorough review! (I feel a little bad that you got stuck with this giant article that needed tons of work, whereas I got short-and-sweet Gomphus clavatus.) Best, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 01:47, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome! Don't feel bad about the effort disparity, I enjoy criticizing other people's work (an aftereffect of grading hundreds of undergrad exams and papers). Sasata (talk) 02:03, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
WikiProject Fungi Barnstar
I know you've already got one, but your recent work on Cyathus, list of Cyathus species and the articles on some of the species themselves has been particularly awesome. Thanks for devoting so much of your time and expertise to the project. J Milburn (talk) 14:25, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm planning for these Cyathus articles to be part of a featured (or good) topic, hopefully I can get it done for a later round of the WikiCup. Sasata (talk) 17:32, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

That'd be great- I had fleeting hopes that I'd be able to do that with Lactarius, but there are just too many of them! J Milburn (talk) 19:18, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Peer Review for Brain ischemia

Fungi

The Fungi Double Barnstar
In recognition of your efforts in bringing fungi pictures to their proper place (throughout the featured picture archives) I award you the double barnstar of facehuggers Aseroë rubra.

However, I'm afraid that I can't find any other historical images worth restoring... Well, actually, that's a lie, but [2] and[3] seem to lack sufficient bibliographic detail - Anyway, barring figuring out enough details to move forward with that, I think I've been about all the help I can be, imagewise, unless there's something you know of and would like me to do.
