Blanking[edit]

I just thought blanking a talk page was unusual. Fences and windows (talk) 01:03, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading images from websites[edit]

Hi Sasikiran 10, in answer to "can you tell me how I can upload a movie poster onto wikipedia with out violating any copy rights?" yes I can.
All movie posters, commercial photographs and other images from websites are copyrighted. These are allowed if they meet the strict wikipedia non-free content criteria. Possibly the best way is for you to tell me the article you think it should be in, I will check it out, upload if it meets the rules (tell you if not) and show you how we write a non-free rationale to allow hosting of the image - Peripitus (Talk) 02:11, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok - I've restored File:Sasirekha Parinayam (film).jpg ( see the article Sasirekha Parinayam) and added a non-free rationale. I didn't upload the image you nominated as it was covered in website watermarks by the site and these are discouraged. Please have a look at the rationale I've added to the image for reference on future images. Happy editing - Peripitus (Talk) 02:45, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For your question on whether this is ok for actors...the answer is both yes and no. For most pictures of actors (providing they are alive) it is possible to create a free image and this free image is deemed sufficient. There must be a compelling reason for why we need a non-free image of a thing that still exists (the actor). The only time it can be acceptable is where the image is used to illustrate an article on the character they played, and, the look of the actor as that character is important for reader's to understand the article - Peripitus (Talk) 04:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understood what you meant. In an article about an actor, for example [1], can I use his image from [2] quoting that website as source? -Sasikiran (talk) 04:21, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In short no. Venkatesh is still alive. In this case it is possible for someone to take a photo of him and upload a free version under one of the licenses available. The rules specifically stop this type of upload as it does not comply with the first of the non-free content rules. If a photo can't be taken himself, his agent or another person could be asked to release a free image....it is possible they may say yes !. - Peripitus (Talk) 05:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging[edit]

Please be careful when tagging images. WP:CSD I4 and I6 each require that the image has been tagged for 7 days before speedy deletion. I have reverted your tags. (ESkog)(Talk) 17:39, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You should use {{nld}} for images missing licenses, and {{nrd}} for images missing rationales. A full list of those templates can be found at Category:Image deletion template shortcuts. (ESkog)(Talk) 19:02, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

self made image question[edit]

Hi Peripitus,

I have a question. If a self made / photographed image is uploaded do I need to have a rationale or summary?

Not really - if the image is yours then all you need to do is state clearly that it is yours (make sure to include a description of the image so that other's can understand it) and release it under an appropriate free licence. Rationales are only for images that are non-free (copyrighted). When you upload it it is best to use an information template that helps with formatting - press the "my own work" selection in Special:Upload and make sure that you select a license in the drop down listing. You may consider uploading the image to commons so that user's on other language sites can also use the image - uploads here can only be used on the English Wikipedia - Peripitus (Talk) 02:23, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Image question[edit]

I don't do a whole lot of work on the Commons, but my instinct would be that you are correct and that is a simple recreation of a copyrighted image. If it were on Wikipedia, I'd probably try to contact the uploader to find out more. (ESkog)(Talk) 19:02, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question .. copyright status of an image..[edit]

Hi Peripitus, I have a questions about copyright status of political party flags and logos. I found this image in Commons and I am unsure if correct copyright tag is used. Does the license to belongs to uploader as stated in the license section of the file. I believe this should be owned by the political party. Please clarify.. -Sasikiran (talk) 17:26, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that the designs of many flags are not subject to copyright, so providing a user draws it themselves, they can append a free licence to their version. I don't think that this is a blanket case for all flags but I could be mistaken. Many flags designs are counted as being in the public domain. here is probably a good place to ask as they have a lot of people on commons experienced at flag licensing - Peripitus (Talk) 09:32, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test on the page File:Ps3 Sucks LOL.jpg worked, and it has been reverted or removed. File source problem with File:Las Meninas Still E.jpg[edit]

Hi Ihorp, I noticed some problems with your files. As you mentioned that these file were stills from the movie Las Meninas(film), I doubt if you own the copyright and I strongly suspect the copyright tag you attached to those pictures is inappropriate. If those images were screenshots of a movie, there is a special license for that in the dropdown box while you select the license. You are also required to provide a detailed non-free use rationale if they are copyrighted images explaining why you are using those non-free images. - Sasikiran (talk) 17:43, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source issue[edit]

That should be taken care of - I don't know what happened. I put the information in as usual, but it didn't take, for some reason. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 06:37, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Iberian-guanche images[edit]

I don't have any experience on images copyright problems but there seems to be an additional problem on these images as they have been uploaded with two authors by the same user:

first as Arnaiz-Villena

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tuna_fish_pathway.JPG http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Iberian-Guanche_Lanzarote.JPG

then as Honoratio Weller :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Iberian-Guanche_Lanzarote.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tuna_fish_route.jpg

with another one by "Honoratio Weller" with exactly the same kind of drawing that those of Arnaiz-Villena http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ibero-Guanche_Fuerteventura.JPG

as this article only shows the mavericks theories of Arnaiz-Villena it could be self-publishing

Hi, Dilvish, I tagged those redundant images for speedy deletion. So they might be deleted soon. Thanks --Sasikiran (talk) 16:05, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please help me??[edit]

please help me to correct that, just show me an exampleMaen. K. A. (talk) 15:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

lsn i corrected the issue, should i remove the tags you added, or if i cant, please review them to remove the tags, thank you allot for your time Maen. K. A. (talk) 15:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Once you corrected your issues, you are good to remove the tags that I placed on your images. But, make sure, you add proper copyright status for those images. For the most part, as i noticed, you either didn't provide proper copyright status for logos or you failed to provide detailed fair-use rationale, for copyrighted images. If you still need an example, do let me know, I can can help you with that. Happy editing - Sasikiran (talk) 16:05, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you allot thats so nice of you please check this image and tell me if it is now meeting the wikipedia policy i did all the images like this one JUST Logo
Thank you againMaen. K. A. (talk) 16:16, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I Changed the non-free rationale info for that logo. You can use a template which will put all that information in place. Click "Edit" link on that page to see the tempalte source. Let me know if you have any questions. - Sasikiran (talk) 17:01, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you allot for your time, i reedited all the logos. Maen. K. A. (talk) 17:18, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New image project[edit]

Hi. This little form letter is just a courtesy notice to let you know that a proposal to merge the projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Free images, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use, Wikipedia:WikiProject Moving free images to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration into the newly formed Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media has met with general support at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Files. Since you're on the rosters of membership in at least one of those projects, I thought you might be interested. Conversation about redirecting those projects is located here. Please participate in that discussion if you have any interest, and if you still have interest in achieving the goals of the original project, we'd love to have you join in. If you aren't interested in either the conversation or the project, please pardon the interruption. :) Thanks. Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:47, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS[edit]

Hi,

You previously had the OTRS respondent userbox and/or OTRS respondent category on your userpage. A check of the list of OTRS volunteers showed that you weren't an OTRS respondent, so I have removed the box and/or category.

If I am mistaken for whatever reason, please email me to explain.

Regards,
Daniel (talk) 08:52, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
