Still learning my way around but want to thank Savidan for correcting the grammar error and fixing the formatting on the picture, and for highlighting a fact from this entry in the Did You Know? section. Thanks!

I have no doubt in the good faith of all of the contributors to the AfD. Assuming good faith does not, however, mean that I have to believe that they have not been greatly derelict in their responsibilities as AfD contributors, as evidenced by their frequent making of statements that are 100% wrong. They mean well, I'm sure. They're still being very bad AfD contributors. Phil Sandifer 02:44, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Modsquad.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Modsquad.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Yeah, you're right, it only got deleted because the trivia section was nuked. I'm the one that tried to integrate the trivia into the rest of it, so it was my mistake deleting the image. Thanks for fixing it. In terms of why I got rid of the trivia, I tried to put what I could into the rest of the article, but got rid of some information that I didn't think was relevant or just couldn't be incorporated into the other sections. If you see anywhere that could be improved, let me know. --Tractorkingsfan 07:44, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Windows Vista

I know I could go to requests for protection but since you unprotected the Windows Vista article, I figured I'd come to you first. As you can see by the history of the page, it has received a very high level of vandalism in the ~42 hours since you unprotected it. It has been vandalised 20 times in the ~42 hours, about once every two hours. Could you please re-evaluate the protection one the page and consider re-semiprotecting it? A Cappella

I was noticing that a great many of your recent edits have been suggestions to delete articles relating to a cappella. Is there a particular reason that members of this community--ranging from arranging pioneers to important groups to well-known percussionists--has caught your attention? --Patchyreynolds 03:26, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

A few questions on recent edits + a cappella music

I noted that you edited the Kid Beyond entry to request a citation for the performer's work as a voice actor in video games and commercials. I've been trying to determine what sort of citation is most appropriate for that sort of thing. On the video game front, are the IMDB or MobyGames entries acceptable? Alternately, I could link to a bunch of AllGame credits, like this one. Another option is to cite his personal website, under WP:SELFPUB. Yet another (excessive, in my opinion) option would be to provide screenshots of the credits from the relevant games. Which of these, if any, seems appropriate to you?

On another note, as you may note from my edit history, I have some interest in a cappella music; similarly, you and your fellow Dartmouth undergrad Kane5187 appear to have some interest in expunging the genre and its practitioners from Wikipedia. I'll be attempting to research notability claims for some of the articles you successfully sent through WP:AFD in recent months, but I thought it might be useful to run them by you first to ensure that they won't be marked for speedy deletion as soon as I put them back up. I'll be starting with the "low hanging fruit" on the notability front, like the Tufts Beelzebubs, for whom I was quickly able to find some non-trivial media mentions. It would appear that some of the Boston Globe items in this search are rather applicable, especially this article (in paid archive) - would a few of those be sufficient, or should I do some more digging? I also found video evidence to corroborate multiple claims in various publications of an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman - any way to reference that appearance without breaking copyright?

Also also, it appears that there have been mixed standards in past AfDs applied to the most prominent awards and competitions in the a cappella genre. It's clearly your opinion that the CARA awards, International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, Harmony Sweepstakes, BOCA compilation, etc. aren't sufficient to establish notability within the genre. However, I found some past AfDs where some of these items were in fact taken into account. Is this indicative of a shift in Wikipedia's standards at some point in the recent past, or was it just the "luck of the draw" on the editors happening upon those particular discussions?

Apologies for the length of this message, and feel free to break it up into separate sections for organizational purposes if necessary. JavaTenor 20:55, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Request removal of graveyard image from Expulsion of Germans after World War II

Hi, you removed the cpation from the graveyard image of this article. Please read my request on Talk:Expulsion of Germans after World War II for an explanation of why the image should be removed as well. There is a discussion titled "The graveyard picture" on the Talk Page that will explain the reason for my request. Thanks.

Ronald Reagan Featured Article Candidate

Hi. Thank You for your comments on the Ronald Reagan fFatured Article page. Are you saying that we (being the editors) should incorporate the critisicms into the sections that they belong in? I think you are. I'll start working on that. If I do, and you are happy with it, will you consider changing your vote from "Oppose" to "Support?" Happyme22 17:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

What I'm saying is that a "criticism" section should contain sentences that are clearly not criticism of Reagan but facts. A lot of the content there should be incorporated in the article proper (with other facts about his presidency in that area, not just criticisms—that might take a little work, not just moving text around). That was just my initial reaction; once I get a chance to go over the rest of the article more thoroughly I'll probably have more comments. But...yes...if you address all my objections to my satisfaction, I'll support ;) Savidan 17:42, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I saw what you said on the Ronald Reagan "history" page. I was not the won that added that info, and I don't have sources. Should it be deleted? Happyme22 03:03, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
If it turns out that it's totally fake then it should be deleted, but just removing all the uncited info is likely to make the article incomplete. Try some searches of the various Google tools. Savidan 03:06, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Gngl.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Gngl.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:55, 25 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 21:55, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Mortara Affair

I question the need for an article titled Mortara Affair that is separate from the one titled Edgardo Mortara. Mortara is not notable for anything except the controversy surrounding his being taken from his parents. Thus any article about him is primarily about that. I'm inclined to think the two articles should get merged. Michael Hardy 23:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I think that the Affair has significance not relevant to his biography and visa versa, but I redirected it for now, since I don't have time to work on the article or the merge at the moment. Savidan 23:30, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

David Blanchflower

I would like to point out to you WP:NPOV and WP:COI. The Sunday Telegraph is a perfectly adequate source for the criticism of Blanchflower, which is worth mentioning as it is ununusal for MPC members to draw such vitriol. BLP is not intended to be used to whitewash articles of criticism. Catchpole 21:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Removed FA stars and GA plus signs

The FA star does not belong in reader-facing templates. It's fine to use in the userspace and project space, but not just when you link to a featured article. It is self-referential and decreases the reusability of our content. Savidan 00:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

  • "decreases the reusability of our content"??? that's a stretch.Rlevse 02:07, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
  • PLus--see WP:FT.Rlevse 02:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
WP:FT are not reader facing templates, you'll notice that all of those templates start with the word "Wikipedia" and are not used in the article space. I don't think its much of a stretch at all; having the GA and FA decals in the templates makes it harder to use those templates in non-Wikipedia contexts; you'll notice that there is a section on templates @ WP:SELFREF. In fact, meta-data creep is one of the primary obstacles to the reusability of Wikipedia. You'll notice that we don't include the FA star when simply linking to a featured article in another article. Savidan 02:22, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't agree, but it's not worth debating further.Rlevse 09:50, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Flavor Graveyard

I just wanted to message you because of your change to the List of Ben & Jerry's Flavors. The original title Flavor Graveyard is what the company calls the flavors that are out of production. On their website and specifically when you goto their factory, they have headstones with the names of the flavors on them, so in light of that I think that the title should go back to the original Flavor Graveyard.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 14:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

While mirroring another site would not be appropriate, as a link could just be given to take one there, acknowledging what the company titles their products is part of being encyclopedic as well. Perhaps the original label is placed there, but with a given explanation as to why Flavor Graveyard is sued, referring to the mock graveyard the company uses to retire their various flavors. What you changed it to is probably better than having the other which could be confusing as to why such a morbid title is used without the full explanation.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 15:47, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
All companies have gimics for selling their products. However, as I noted the webpage thats lists the Flavor Graveyard is a mimic of the permanent graveyards that are at their factories (I have actually been there). If the "gimic" were to change at anytime, it is the responsibility of those who work on encyclopedic materials such as this one, to change the entry. Comapanies change constantly, that is the nature of doing business. When the company was sold to a Japanese holder, the entry would have been changed and if the company was sold again, the article would be affected by that as well. I however do not see this particular item changing anytime soon as it has been something the company has been doing since they started getting rid of flavors.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 17:09, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Pope Pius XII - Banco do Brasil

I just wanted to put Banco do Brasil in context, because today it's only a commercial bank, but back then it was Brazilian's Federal Reserve, which is not noted in the text. People will argue "why they had to give money to this bank?" - so I thought my addition was relevant.

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 23:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 12:28, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Just catching up with my user talk (now I have my own 'Net access) and thought I'd say thanks for a lot for leaving me a note about this. Personally, I'm fine with leaving it there on the pragmatic basis that if you went there looking for it (which when I removed it I didn't think anyone would), others will, and the page isn't too long.

Really, per MoS:DP, the entries on a DP should be commonly used to refer to the target—specifically, how I interpret it, without obvious syntactic context (e.g.: including `colour blindness' in the same sentence) but maybe taking into account a wider context (e.g.: ophthalmological circles) . I've also changed your entry so it doesn't link to a redirect per MoS:DP.

Image:Quadwrapped2.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Quadwrapped2.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 00:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
