Welcome![edit]

Hello, Scapone, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at the Guide to layout, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.

Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
  • Full details on Wikipedia style can be found in the Manual of Style.
Happy editing!

Sorry, this is a bit late — still, better a late welcome than no welcome at all. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:10, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thank you. —MetsBot 19:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging[edit]

Please do not upload images without tagging them (See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags). Untagged images or images with no source may be deleted in the future. - Thanks Nv8200p 18:36, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Spain empire.gif. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know on the image description page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Otherwise, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Thanks so much. --Secretlondon 19:23, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

I have blocked you for one month, so that you are likely to run into it, as I see you are an infrequent contributor. You have been left several warnings about your taggings of images and your misunderstanding of copyright puts the project at risk of a lawsuit. Please use this time to review Wikipedia:Copyrights. If you would like to continue contributing to Wikipedia, properly tagging your images and not uploading copyright violations, leave me a note and we can discuss the block. Image Tagging for Image:Spring_break.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Spring_break.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:Pernell.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pernell.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Your continued misunderstanding of copyright issues[edit]

You are not permitted to upload images to Wikipedia unless you have explicit and independently verifiable permission to do so from the source (such as an email from the copyright owner), or the image is clearly used under fair use. Neither is true of the three images you recently uploaded. Magazines do not publish images for promotional purposes. Please stop doing this. I notice that you have been warned and blocked before for this behaviour. Please consider this a final warning. If you find an image, and are in any doubt whatsoever whether it qualifies under copyright law, please do not upload it. A further infringement is likely to result in a much longer block.

I also note that you reposted a previously deleted article (List of interracial, interethnic or intercultural couples) against Wikipedia policy. I assume this was a mistake. Best wishes, RobertGtalk 11:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for your reply. Firstly, the article cannot be reposted because it was deleted after a consensus. It is Wikipedia policy that repostings of the same article after a consensual deletion like this can be speedily deleted.
If you want to use an image you clearly cannot just assert that it is being used fairly: it actually has to be fair use. Therefore, you must put a valid rationale for why the use of the image is fair. Such a rationale is not easy to write. Also, you cannot just find a picture in a magazine (like Sports Illustrated) or on a website, upload it, and say that it is "promotional". For any image you upload, you must tell everyone exactly where you got it, who the copyright holder is, what copyright terms they published it under, why you have permission to use it, and how Wikipedia may use it.
So I ask, why do you have permission to use the cover of Sports Illustrated September 20 1993? Do you own the copyright? If not, you can only claim fair use of the magazine cover if the article is discussing the magazine, you may not claim fair use if the article is about the subject of the image. Where exactly did you get Image:Tysonbuster.jpg from? It doesn't look promotional to me. Exactly the same comments apply to Image:Tysondouglasticketpicii.jpeg.jpg and Image:Tys spinks.jpg. Sorry, but I didn't make the law. --RobertGtalk 17:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter if it was his publicist who uploaded it; Wikipedia requires that all contributions be legally editable and OK under the GFDL - which his promo material definitely is not. --humblefool® 04:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Kerri kasem.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kerri kasem.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 04:10, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Tysondouglasticketpicii.jpeg.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tysondouglasticketpicii.jpeg.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Scapone! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 878 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
