You do understand this is an encyclopaedia, don't you? What you are trying to do on the Kunz article is what we call WP:SYNTHESIS. If you can find a reliable source that states he has German ancestry, then all will be well and good. If you don't, then you are guilty of original research. - SchroCat (talk) 09:18, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Ahhahaha ok thanks. Its actually kind of an ocd of mine that I need to find certain ethnicities relating to something like Goldeneye has ourumov which is played by a German and Xenia who is played by a Dutch so I got kind of greedy and I really want to prove that Simon Kunz is also a German because of my obsessive complusive disorder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by an unspecified IP address
You're confusing nationality with ethnicity too. It's particularly important with living individuals - see WP:BRD, which shows just how important citations are in these cases. Actors are also awkward as many take stage names, or variations of their name. Hi Aaron. I'm not at home, near my sources at the moment, but from memory, one of Drax's other shuttles had crashed or was broken, and he needed to steal that one back to undertake his plan. A paper-thin plot, but that wasn't the worst bit of the film! - SchroCat (talk) 14:16, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Crisco, all very good except for the thunderstorms rocking HK at the moment! Getting very wet dashing between meetings and client receptions, and the cabs all seem to disappear at the first drop of rain! I'll have a little more free time from Thursday onwards, so I'll do what I can then. Hopefully I can finally wrap up Tranby Croft within the next couple of weeks, and then the Barrymore filmog at some point too, but not tot sure when I'll launch then. I know! I can see it now in looking at her in the film and the voice but she really looks radically different in it. I recommend watching Topaz when you have a moment. It's a bit slow paced and has several flaws but it's a very good spy thriller and feels quite realistic actually IMO.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:26, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Hitchcock's weaker films I think in order are Jamaica Inn, Lifeboat, Stage Fright and Torn Curtain but the majority range from rather good to masterpieces. Torn Curtain's second half was good but the first half aside from the kitchen fight was mute and lifeless and I thought both Newman and Andrews especially were totally miscast in the roles. In fact I'd go as far as to say Andrews casting in a spy film is one of the worst casting decisions ever made in film!! Although nnothing compares with the casting of John Wayne as Genghis Khan and as a Roman soldier in The Greatest Story Ever Told, in my top 10 list of the most boring films ever made!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:42, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Because English originated in England (hence the name!) I don't think it is right to give it a specific nickname ("Queen's English", does she alone speak it?) just to distinguish from other countries' English. Just English looks fine. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:47, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
The use is fine: it's an accepted term that is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "Queen's English n. (usu. with the) the English language regarded as under the guardianship of the Queen of England; (hence) standard or correct English, usually as written and spoken by educated people in Britain". All done I believe, thanks for taking the time to do an excellent review. BTW have you seen Woman of Straw? I've never seen a film actress look quite so simultaneously frightened and attracted as she was with Sean Connery. You could tell Lollobrigida was highly attracted to him but she genuinely looked really intimidated by him!! Either that or she hated him! Probably not used to being around a male film star of such toughness and virility! Connery was the man wasn't he! I wouldn't mind her being my nurse though LOL! I don't think they liked each other as people though, I've found a source which says she was difficult on set and clashed with Connery and Dearden. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:51, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

It's pretty average overall, but it's enjoyable seeing Ralph as a dead man in a wheelchair and Gina being locked in a prison and the ending is great with a cunning twist! She was hot but my didn't she know it. Textbook diva as you say. There's a scene it it when she's wailing, really overacting and Connery really looks an inch away from slapping her. But if you compare the chemistry between Connery and Lollo and Peter Sellers and Sophia in The Millionairess for instance they couldn't have been more different! How Connery managed to do that and Marnie amid the early Bond films and the huge pressures it must have brought beats me. Perhaps that was his way of dealing with the attention to go to Majorca and shoot a film and focus his mind on something else.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:57, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Formby 1 and 2

I just read both of your articles, very interesting indeed, and the writing is very strong. I am afraid neither Formby made a huge impact on my native side of the Atlantic (well, I can't very well say "this side of the Atlantic", now can I?) and I had only heard the name and little more.--Wehwalt (talk) 18:54, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

They both show a particularly British (even north west English) type of character, and Formby Jnr's films are an absolute delight in themselves, as well as having an almost sociological interest to them. One of them, Let George Do It! gave a particularly strong boost to early-war British morale (according to the Mass-Observation work) as Formby drops in on Hitler and gives him a right hook in a dream sequence. Apart from the fact that there was actually something to say abut the previous owners, it wasn't information that was mindlessly put in there and then repeated in subsequent sections; it was also reliably sourced. Baccarat

Sorry I missed the FAC and congrats on a fine article making FA. I read the article and thought it worthy of FA status. I was wondering if File:RoyalBaccaratScandal.jpg was reproduced in any of the books on the scandal? If so, it might have enough source information there to be able to use it in the article.

Hi Ruhrfisch, Thanks for the message. I'm on holiday, so need to get back to my sources next week to look at the information and see if he here is something that will help. (And check elsewhere to see if it was published somewhere previously). I think it's almost certainly free to use, but I need to clarify and confirm a couple of points to pass muster - which I hope to be able to do soon. In relation to the testifying, I think I'll need to clarify the 1869 appearance: he appeared (vaguely voluntarily), and read a pre-prepared statement rather than being examined and cross-examined in open court. I'm sorry to have inadvertently upset you, but as I had an objection of my own to the hook in question I had a choice between either pulling the hook for further discussion or tweaking it myself. Because I found the issue after a long session at DYK and was feeling tired, I opted for the easier solution. If I hadn't come across this issue at the end of a long session, I think your objection stated at the nom page would have registered more strongly, but in my haste to wind up the set and log off, I overlooked it. I apologize for that.

You should have Discussed, not edit warred to your preferred version. I put the box back to the stable consensus, nothing more. I see you have opened a talk thread, although I think you'll need to need to come up with better arguments than the rahter laughable (and grammatically painful "British Empire done more than France and rescued France from invasion". You obviously have no perspective on the war, aside from a rather narrow nationalistic one. Have you perhaps thought that French were at war longer than us, held a larger chunk of the line than us, lost more men and civilians than us, had more of the war fought on their land than us and held more overall control of the allied forces than us? As soon as you look at things a little more broadly (and I do advise you read more widely on the subject) then you'll see things are not as simplistic as you suppose. Nationality in the lead

Hi Schro, I was wondering if you could take a look at Talk:Naomi Watts#Watts is Australian and British, what's with the conflict?. I've had a to revert a couple of times on the article but to be honest I'm not 100 percent sure if my views on this are consistent with how Wikipedia approaches nationality i.e. do we treat it as a fact, a self-identification matter etc? I don't do much work on bios so I'm disengaging on the article itself since I'm not all that ivested in it and I'm not even sure if I am "right", but I would be interested in knowing what you think for future reference. Done. I think you were right in your instincts there: too many people play petty nationalistic games with which I have little time. Reliable sources, truth and common sense all tend to be overlooked just to put seemingly meaningless labels on things. All rather tedious, and I don't think it's ever possible to reason with them properly, but just keep replying on the policies and guidelines, which are normally pretty good on this stuff. Thanks for your help

Just a word of appreciation for your help in trying to solve the problems itemised on my talkpage (Village Pump was completely useless). I'm glad to say I've found ways of recovering nearly all the features that went missing. The one I can't find is the very useful "Page size" (wordcount) tool that used to lie in the list of tools on the left of the page. I remember losing this once before, and someone showed me the procedure for getting it back. Unfortunately, that's lost somewhere in my 80+ archives. Hi. Earlier I changed the phrase "different to" in this article to "different from". I notice that you have reverted this change. However, the use of "to" in this context is non-standard in both UK and North American English, while the use of "from" is standard. You can check this here. Further, "different from" is also internationally understood, and in keeping with our policy, you'll see that "opportunities for commonality" are encouraged, and I made the change in this spirit. I certainly wouldn't use a Wiki article to back up any argument of mine. I'd use a style guide, such as Gowers's The Complete Plain Words, which states that "there is good authority for different to", or Fowler's A Dictionary of Modern English Usage, which also supports the acceptable use of different to in this circumstance.
The COMMONPLACE guideline (not policy) used to suggest "Fixed Wing Aircraft" in place of aeroplane/airplane, which is one of the most cretinous things I've ever seen. I see the guideline, I nod to it when necessary, but I will not debase articles to some mid-Atlantic sludge simply to pander to some "international" dimension: the article is written in British English, and it's not worth trying to force unwarranted Engvar changes on it. – SchroCat (talk) 18:27, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
I feel the problem with the references you cite is that they, by their nature, only focus on a national variant of the language. They "only focus on a national variant of the language"? Of course they do: they are British English style guides. But as the article is in British English, that is entirely appropriate. There are bigger and better things of concern with Wikipedia than chnaging something that is correct just for the sake of it. Hi Bumbaze, Although the Sinatra info was of passing interest, it's something that should be on Davi's page, not the Licence to Kill page: it's not relevant to LtK, but it is to Davi, and we try and keep just the key information on article pages or they become overly bloated and messy, filled with things that aren't strictly relevant. In terms of your signature, you need to add four tildes (~~~~) to the end to generate your signature. In the Wiki markup directly below the editing are, you'll see that it is one of the pre-made pieces of code to drop in. Hope both explanations help. Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America

Hi SchroCat,

I noticed that you reverted my edit at TFLS. I removed the definite article because the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America article does not use it; the lead starts without "The", and is fairly consistent in omitting it throughout the rest of the article. This source omits it as well ("I never should have joined SFWA if..."), as does the official website ("SFWA is a professional organization..."). Would you mind if I removed the definite article from the TFL blurb again?
