Personally I would not be happy to rename the article Susan Smith (athlete) because I see no proof that she was known by that name during the height of her international career. Maybe you could request a redirect called 'Susan Smith (athlete)', via the Article Wizard and see what another editor thinks. Pob lwc!! Sionk (talk) 19:48, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple accounts?[edit]

Hi again Scotty1891, your editing pattern on Susan Smith-Walsh indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia. Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please remember to disclose these connections. Sionk (talk) 22:58, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. If you look at Wikipdia's policy on multiple accounts you'll see that you should not edit the same article using two different accounts. I suggest you carry out your future edits to the Susan Smith article using your original account. Otherwise editors (like me) might think there is something untoward going on. Sionk (talk) 14:24, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sionk. Mea culpa. Will do! Let me explain. I know a little about computers but usually I just muddle through (I'm 75 years old). The reason I had two accounts was because I couldn't remember what account I used to create the article and so I opened a new one. Sorry about that. I'll only use Scotty1891 for wiki and won't use Montrose 1877. Anyhow I don't know how to link the two accounts. I've had a look at the similarities between my website and the wiki page and have made some changes. Please don't delete the page. I believe I've abided by all the other rules but the whole wiki thing is very confusing - to me at least.

Potential copyright violation[edit]

Both yourself and Montrose1867 have been repeatedly adding copyrighted material to the Susan Smith-Walsh article, from http://waterfordireland.tripod.com/susan_smith.htm and attributing it to other offline sources. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Sionk (talk) 23:09, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message on my Talk page. The problem here is that Wikipedia does not allow copyrighted text to be used in their articles. If you are the webmaster of the Waterford Ireland website, you could follow the guidance (in the link above) to release your text into the public domain under a free license. But the simplest solution would be to write the Wikipedia article completely differently. This would 'kill two birds with one stone', because the prose in the Waterford article is sometimes written in a conversational manner which is probably not appropriate for an encyclopedia. It's best to summarise things succintly here, from a neutral point of view.
By all means attribute the facts/information to the original news articles, but do not blatantly copy-paste from other sources.
Hope that helps! Sionk (talk) 14:40, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Susan Smith-Walsh[edit]

Prynhawn da, Sionk

Thanks for all you help. I've finished the wiki page for Susan Smith-Walsh and I would like you to review it and let me have your comments. I have taken your advice and re-written most of the article. The essence remains the same, however. I can't change the historical facts though, much as I'd like to report that she had won an Olympic gold medal. I noticed that the picture of Susan standing on the track at the start of her 1st round race in Atlanta has been deleted. That picture was taken by me and I hold the original and released it for general use to Commons Wikipedia before I inserted it into the biography. Would you please re-insert it for me?

I hope the articles passes and is released for general viewing.

It looks like the photo was deleted from Commons by Polarlys. Maybe you can find out from them why this happened.
I'll have a look at the article later. From a quick glance, the last few paragraphs are unsourced. Maybe you can add sources for this, if you have it. It is certainly a comprehensive article, well done! Sionk (talk) 16:14, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Re your new comment on my Talk page, the article is already 'live', since I moved it from Articles for Creation into Wikipedia's article space. It won't appear in any global search engine results until the search engines find it and index it (this can take days, sometimes weeks, but I think with Wikipedia articles it is usually the former). Sionk (talk) 13:47, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Someone has removed the photograph of the St Paul's u/11 4x100m relay team from the wikipedia page for Susan Smith-Walh. I uploaded this photo (which was taken by me) to wikimedia Commoms. Would you please arrange to have the photo replaced on the page? Thanks in anticipation. Scotty1891 (talk) 12:33, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is that comment addressed to me? I would suggest the best way of sorting out the problem would be to contact the editor who deleted the photo. I'm a bit surprised you weren't contacted by someone if there were problems with the photo. It looks like the copyright status might not have been described correctly, or to someone's liking. Disambiguation link notification for June 1[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Waterford, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Keane (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
