Nomination of Tziarra King for deletion

NWSL opt-outs

Hi, I noticed you reverted my edit on 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, and you mentioned that the info duplicates content on the main article. I'm not seeing the information about individual players being able to opt out elsewhere in the article or in 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup squads. I think it's worth mentioning the missing players. If "notable" isn't obvious, then we can just identify them as federation players (all but Dydasco are contracted USWNT players). Ytoyoda (talk) 18:27, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Ytoyoda, I agree that it is useful to include a sentence or two stating that individual players could opt out, but I strongly disagree that mentioning missing players is necessary or useful. First, as with all tournaments there is already a separate page 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup squads. Second, "notable" is undefined; if you want to say US federation players just say so (and just a note: contracted USWNT players and NWSL federation players allocated by US Soccer are two different but frequently overlapping categories). Third, because the NWSL did not make "opt out" an official roster status, there are a lot of cases where that's difficult to verify, especially for federation players (e.g., did Carli Lloyd and Mal Pugh "opt out" or are they on the the official disabled list?). Are you including "opt out" players only those who chose not to play for non-injury reasons, or are you including all the players who are contracted but are not on the tournament roster regardless of reasons? If it's the latter, then there are way more than whom you did include: Julia Ashley and Leah Pruitt from the Reign are on D45, Chicago's Alyssa Mautz are on disabled list and Arin Wright's on maternity leave, NC's Merritt Mathias is still on disabled list... these are just some you did not include. Finally, what do you do about Orlando? For all these reasons, I'm strongly inclined to just let the squad page stand as is, with an additional note in the main tournament page about the opt-out option being available to all players. Thanks for your response. And yeah, I'm thinking a sentence about the risk-free opt-out option, plus a mention of the non-injured players who announced their choice (and received coverage for their announcements) makes sense?
