Feedback from Dr. Hyde[edit]

You’ve gotten a great start here on adding really important information to the history sections. The two key issues , now, are adding more text in general, but also citations to good, scholarly sources.

1)    Lay out the structure of your article or the new chunks of an old article with an Introduction and titles for the parts you want to add or rewrite.

You might want to divide up the “History Section” into separate chunks, like “Early Spanish Development” and “Mining and Slavery” and “Long-Term Effects of Mining” to help readers see what is going on from the start. I’m not sure how much you will be able to add beyond this – maybe focus on adding new sources and citations to the new history sections.

2)    Added new, high-quality sources (books, articles, authoritative websites)

The sources you have are good ones – I think you just need to dig around in those books and use their bibliographies effectively. A few classic texts on silver mining might help with general background: Bakewell, P. J. Silver Mining and Society in Colonial Mexico : Zacatecas, 1546-1700. Cambridge UP, 2002; and here is a new one about a different city, but again for background. Lane, Kris E. Potosí : The Silver City That Changed the World. Univ. of  California Press, 2019.

3)Written 50-60% of what you hope to add

You’re chugging along with this. I can see where you plan to take this, but the key task is decided how to lay out the history of mining and enslaved workers so that it blends into the rest of the article.

4) Thinking about linking as opposed to creating too much background

Here is where you might need to consider how much background people can get from other Wikipedia articles. I think you need more links to other mining communities, important slavers, and Indigenous nations in the region.

5) Started to clean up a few paragraphs

You can decide whether you want to do this on the mainspace or in your sandbox, but the clean up and fixing spelling and writing errors takes a while.
