Howdy[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia!
I just wanted to drop off a note to welcome you to Wikipedia, and to thank you for creating an account and for your recent contributions to the project.

If you haven't checked them out yet, you might want to check out some of the things your new account lets you do, such as customization (more) and your watchlist (more).

There are a few things you probably want to keep in mind as you traverse Wikipedia:

  • If you need somewhere to goof around with things, try the Sandbox — please don't edit articles just to test them. But when you feel ready to, you don't need to hesitantly ask permission — if you think you've got a solid contribution to make, we encourage you to be bold.
  • Please sign any message you leave on a talk page (not your contributions to an article, but any personal messages you might leave on an article's talk page or a person's talk page) with four tildes. This will sign your name. Four tildes look like this: ~~~~

More rules of the road can be found here.

If you'd like to learn more about Wikipedia, there are a few good places to start. Check out the welcome to newcomers, the introduction, and the tutorial.

If I can be of any help, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page (and be sure to check back there for my response). But since I'm not always available, you may get a quicker response by typing {{helpme}} on this page, and an experienced Wikipedian will shortly come around to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks ... and welcome again! — WCityMike (talk • contribs)

Your Europa article[edit]

Sorry if this seems rude, it's late here and I do not know where to find the proper little box. But the article is a mess, the writing in in first person, which is not kosher - nor am I sure this belongs in wikipedia. Is the map notable, is it on the top 5 multiplayer maps, for instance? Otherwise, I do not think wikipedia is the place for this info. Sorry - Lundse 03:08, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I got your message and I'm glad you took mine the right way (I am getting worried about my communications skills after being up for 19 hours). Unfortunately, the article itself is not notable unless the map is well known amongst players of WCIII (and maybe not even then). It will get deleted at some point, as it does not conform to wikipedia policies. I think that Warcraft_III#Custom_maps is about as detailed as we will want to go here - I am sorry to make this your official welcome at wikipedia, but better you know now than when you have put more work into it. The WCIII articles could probably use some help, though, so there might be other stuff for you to do you might be interested in. Lundse 05:05, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy & Offer[edit]

Zach, I was looking through the vote for deletion on Europa (warcraft), and it looks like you're getting pretty ticked off. It also looks like you're recently decently trying to understand how Wikipedia works and why your article is most likely going to get zapped.

Basically, I wanted to offer to open a dialogue with you. If you're ticked about this particular issue, tell me what your problems are (what you don't understand) and I'll try to explain them. If you'd like to know how to do things on Wikipedia, let me know what they are, and I'll try to get you a link or explain them myself.

Basically, I feel a little bad after reading that vote — Wikipedians are supposed to be civil to each other and are not supposed to be mean to new people, and it looks like you might've gotten thwapped around a little bit there. So I just thought I'd try to mend the fence here and see if I can get you going in a good way. Consider me your own personal help desk.

You can respond to this by clicking the little "[edit]" next to this section header and then doing this:

:This is the text of your reply, whatever you would type. ~~~~

Those last four tildes sign your name. We keep bumping the number of colons up as we reply:

::This would be my reply. ~~~~
:::And your reply. ~~~~
::::And my reply again. ~~~~
:::::Ad nauseum.

What the colons do is create indents:

Anyway, so, drop me a line if I can help ya out. — WCityMike (talk • contribs) 17:12, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't heard from you, but offer stands. Still, though, I'm taking this page off my watchlist, so you'll need to drop me a line on my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Still, sounds like you've got a lot of people to draw from, so I'm glad you've gotten a friendly-enough welcome to Wikipedia. Have fun. — WCityMike (T | C)  ⇓ plz reply HERE  (why?) ⇓  18:25, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there[edit]

Howdy, and welcome to Wikipedia. I have followed the deletion process for your article Europa (warcraft) and would like to offer to help you with any issues you are encountering. I can give you specific advice for improving your article to possibly avoid deletion, or help you improve it, or answer other general questions you might have about the deletion process.

I see that you have gotten exasperated dealing with this situation, and I don't blame you. How about we see what positive and constructive things we can do about it? Thanks for your contribution, and I encourage you to check out the Computer and Video Games WikiProject, which is a collaboration of people interested in contributing to computer and video game articles. You will doubtless find some kindred spirits in there! Aguerriero (talk) 21:03, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Europa map[edit]

I feel some people were harsh to you and the article. I'm sorry for that, but just don't take it to the heart. After all, -it happens. Wikipedia is very specific and restrictive in what articles may belong here, and, being large, WP community has many groups of people with very different views. Some are inclusionist and create (or don't mind creating) articles about non-famous subjects. Some are deletionists and propose delition of anything that doesn't stand up to highest encyclopedic standarts (and, obviously, they are active on AfD).

The Europa map article doesn't meet policies and keeping it simply can't be justified by them. It's useful, but there are rules of playing, which don't let it here. It might not be justifiable when looking from aside, but the policies have gained their own power. You weren't well familiar with traditions, as aren't most people, and I understand creating this article seemed by all means appropriate, looking at other similar ones, but these articles were in danger of being deleted from the very beginning. Europa (warcraft) was the unlucky one. I myself don't agree with the deletion decision, after looking at http://s14.invisionfree.com/Clan_Mek/index.php, but now it's nearly impossible to save it.

I moved the latest intact version of the article into your userspace, and it can be found at User:ShadowZach/Europa. Possibly someday it will find its way into Wikipedia, or, otherwise, into some other source; if Clan Mek becomes notable (at least if someone else starts an article on it), that will be for sure. Try to avoid being depressed by that, it's the system which forces such decision, not only people. I hope it helps. CP/M 04:53, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar award[edit]

File:Resilient-silver.png The Resilient Barnstar
You had the misfortune to have the Europa (warcraft) article challenged while you were a brand new editor. You engaged in a calm and reasonable debate, and sought to understand the views of the editors who took the other side in the debate. That makes you a worthy opponent. Gerry Ashton 04:58, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For more information about what a barnstar is, see Wikipedia:Barnstars. I'm new here to, but I've noticed other editors tend to move the barnstars to their user pages. Their user pages end up looking like the chest of a Russian general in dress uniform.

Hey[edit]

I'm relativly new at wikipedia and I don't make a lot of huge contributions (and nothing like writing a full article like you did). I just want to say hello and I hope that your first article turning out bad (because wikipedia doesn't have such a wide scope) doens't turn you away from it. The thing is, there is only so much stuff that can go here, so the specifics of some information have to be limited. That's why things like game guides or map guides wouldn't belong here. But thankfully that doesn't mean your help would not be appreciated. I visit another wiki called strategywiki.net and your article would be ABSOLUTLY perfect there. If you do end up checking out strategywiki, leave me a comment on my talk page and I can help you out anyway I can. Thanks for contributing here, and I hope you help out more because wikipedia could use great contributors like you. Chris M. 07:52, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warcraft AfDs[edit]

I would like to redirect you to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Warcraft character articles. Could you please voice your opinion on this, as it will sett precedence for what to do with articles like this. Havok (T/C/c) 06:57, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Friday Night Stand-Up with Greg Giraldo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced since 2014. Programming blocks are not always notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
