Not using edit summaries[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 02:40, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

October 2020[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Steve Nash, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Specifically per MOS:GEOCOMMA, a location with multiple levels like "Johannesburg, South Africa" should be followed by a comma.Bagumba (talk) 15:04, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good eye on your Peyton Manning edits! Thanks for the good work. Red Director (talk) 14:56, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Peyton Manning (2)[edit]

Hello! I wanted to make you aware that when I am updating references that you have made some minor changes. Some of those changes are accidentally being reverted because the page version I am on while doing time-consuming edits do not keep those changes. I wanted you to know that I am not reverting those on purpose. Red Director (talk) 20:38, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

I have blocked you for one month for violation of WP:LOUTSOCK, disruptive editing, and failure to communicate. See WP:GAB if you wish to appeal this block.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:46, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I did not know what I was doing was wrong, I was afraid that User:Thedarkknightli would empty the Category:Canadian philanthropists and overcategorize the Category:21st-century Canadian philanthropists, but I know now that I was a bit disruptive and should have voiced my concern earlier instead. Thank you. Shadowbryan25 (talk) 15:19, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This only discusses part of the reason for the block, please address the logged out editing. 331dot (talk) 15:24, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Shadowbryan25 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

The same reason applies to the logged out editing. I was worried that the Category:Canadian philanthropists would become empty and the Category:21st-century Canadian philanthropists would become overcategorized. I never intended to cause any harm or edit war, and I realized I should have communicated my concerns instead. I will make sure that this will not happen again.

  • You have been editing logged out for months, most of which has been abusive, including removing posts from administrator Talk pages that have been made by editors with whom you are in dispute, and editing in project space. Although I didn't count, I believe you have more edits with your IPs than with your named account. When coupled with other problems with your edits and your failure to communicate (this is probably the most you've spoken since you been on Wikipedia) or respond to warnings, I came close to blocking you indefinitely.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:39, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I am very sorry for my disruptive editing. I always try my best to make good, constructive edits, and I was unaware about how disruptive my editing was. I can be quite shy sometimes about communicating with other users and defending myself and my edits constructively, but looking back, I realized my mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. When it comes to editing Wikipedia, my goal is to fix spacing, spelling, and grammar mistakes, as well as alphabetize categories. It was never in my intention to engage in disruptive behavior or edit warring, and in the future, I will learn how to communicate with other users instead of acting aggressively and defensively. Location based categories[edit]

Please stop adding categories to athlete pages that are related to where they play. These categories should only be used if they originally from the city they play(ed) in, like Felix Anudike-Uzomah or Kevin Huber. Let me put it to you this way, we wouldn't use a "Politicians from Washington DC" category for presidents or Vice Presidents (and none have been originally from D ), it doesn't make sense to do it for pro athletes.--Rockchalk717 04:04, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rockchalk717, I see and understand what you mean. However, I saw your recent edit on Mark Sanchez in which you removed the Category:People from Rancho Santa Margarita, California although it says on the article that he spent part of his childhood there until moving to Mission Viejo in high school. He is even on the list of notable people in the Rancho Santa Margarita, California article. I appreciate it if you can restore the category. Shadowbryan25 (talk) 15:50, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was a case of misreading. That's why you don't edit Wikipedia right before bed lol. But thanks for your understanding. I have added it back.--Rockchalk717 17:20, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently making disruptive edits.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Bbb23 (talk) 13:21, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am very sorry about these disruptive edits. I have severe anxiety and OCD, as well as a weird obsession of Wikipedia categories for some reason. I know I messed up, but I left a message on User:Smasongarrison's talk page that I won't do it again. I've tried my best to make constructive edits on Wikipedia and communicate with other users instead of defending myself aggressively, which was what got me blocked the first time. Again, I don't want to be blocked indefinitely, as my IP address has been blocked for only 3 months. If given another chance, I will make sure I won't make the same mistakes again. For now, I should just take a break from editing since it has been negatively affecting my mental health and causing me stress and anxiety, as I believe nobody is willing to unblock me and give me another chance to prove it. I keep forgetting that editing while logging out is still considered sockpuppetry, but I always try my best to make sure my edits are constructive, logged in or not. As I said before, if I am given another chance, I will make all my edits logged in, and also make sure that they are constructive instead of disruptive. I will also communicate and co-operate with other users instead of being defensive aggressively. Since my account is blocked indefinitely and my IP address is only blocked for 3 months, does that mean I can edit again with my IP address after 3 months but not anymore with my account? I believe that it is unfair for my account to be blocked indefinitely and my IP address to be blocked for only 3 months. Yes, I made the same mistakes again that got me blocked the first time, but I feel like an indefinite block is a bit too harsh. Is there a way for it to be reduced to 3 months like my IP address instead? Because I really want to edit again, and I know I'm not perfect and make mistakes, but I'll try harder this time to learn from them and communicate with other users more productively. Shadowbryan25 (talk) 15:22, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FYI: The IP being blocked for a shorter window does not mean you're allowed to edit without an account (WP:IPBLENGTH). IPs are almost never blocked indefinitely because IP addresses change. See Wikipedia:Blocking IP addresses for some more info. My advice would be to take a break for a while, as adding to your wall of text is not doing you any favors. Mason (talk) 04:26, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Shadowbryan25 (talk) 22:50, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So I can't edit anymore as long as my account is blocked? Shadowbryan25 (talk) 22:35, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, the block is for all of English Wikipedia. Mason (talk) 02:38, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will rest my mental health and take a break for a while. But I might want to edit again. How can I get myself unblocked? Shadowbryan25 (talk) 03:00, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can follow the appeal instructions outlined in your block. Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks Mason (talk) 03:09, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, but I am worried that no one is willing to unblock me and give me another chance. Shadowbryan25 (talk) 03:21, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a reasonable concern. However, there's nothing you can do about that at the moment. More time will help, as will a thoughtful appeal. However, I'm not an admin. Mason (talk) 03:28, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So how much longer should I wait? Shadowbryan25 (talk) 03:30, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea. I recommend reading through the Guide to appeals, as I think that the advice it gives for sockpuppet bans is at least 6 months. WP:SOCKBLOCK Mason (talk) 03:43, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. For now, I should probably look after my mental health and take a break for a while during the meantime, because this situation is causing me to have stress and anxiety. Shadowbryan25 (talk) 03:51, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
