Image copyright[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you uploaded an image to Wikimedia Commons and marked it as your own work, however a search brought up this website, which shows that it was actually created by someone else. With images, always make sure that you are careful to attribute the image to its creator by providing the creator's name and a link to the site from which you took the image. Also review the image to ensure that it was released under a form of copyright that would be compatible with Wikimedia Commons - if the image lacked this information, always assume that the image cannot be uploaded due to a restrictive copyright. I would like for you to review the training module on uploading images and media, thanks.

What this means for the image is that it will need to be removed, as the UMD website uses a copyright that would prohibit it from being uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:15, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks like you've uploaded several images to Commons and claimed them as your own work. Please understand that this is not the right way to upload images. You absolutely must state where you downloaded them from and provide a link to show that the image has a compatible copyright. I'm trying to find the information for as many as I can find, but there are some that I can't locate the information for, so I need you to provide the links to those. Copyright/plagiarism[edit]

Hi, I received a notice stating that you had copied material from a published source. This is seen as a copyright issue and plagiarism, even if you were to include the original source as a citation. Always be careful when writing article content - a good way to avoid doing this is to take notes while reading and write your article from those notes.

Unless the material is explicitly marked as falling into the public domain or was released under a compatible Creative Commons license, it should be assumed that the content is copyrighted in a way that would prohibit it from being used verbatim elsewhere. It's always best to write things in your own words, as this can help prevent issues like this from arising. I would like for you to review the module on plagiarism and copyright, thanks.
