Hello Shansav71. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Sue Macy, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Shansav71. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Shansav71|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. signed, Rosguill talk 22:57, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosguill: Hello Rosguill. I am writing to assure you that I was not paid for my contributions to Sue Macy. However, it is true that I did some temporary freelance editing and proofreading work on Ms. Macy's website last year, which prompted me to take an interest in her work and led me to the realization that her presence on Wikipedia was lacking. I read that being paid to create an article was against Wikipedia's policies and took this policy seriously. To be clear, I did not bill anyone for my contribution nor did I receive any other compensation for my edits. Please let me know if I can help with any other questions so that we can resolve this issue. Many thanks to you. Shansav71 (talk) 17:35, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, in that case while this isn't a case of paid editing, it is still a case of a conflict of interest due to your past employment. Since the article is neutral and generally complies with policies, I'm going to go ahead and remove the tag, but you should follow the instructions at WP:DCOI and place a disclosure of your past involvement with Macy on Talk:Sue Macy. signed, Rosguill talk 18:38, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosguill: Rosguill, I understand. I also thank you very much for removing the tag and clarifying for me that it is necessary for me to follow the disclosure instructions as directed at WP:DCOI. Shansav71 (talk) 19:00, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosguill: Hello - I have placed a disclosure of my past involvement with Ms. Macy on Talk:Sue Macy. Will you please let me know if I need to do anything further? Many thanks for your help. Shansav71 (talk) 16:01, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
All good, no need for further action. signed, Rosguill talk 17:35, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
