Hamming distance[edit]

Hi. You recently added "the metric on each axis of the hypercube is the discrete metric" as a "necessary condition for claim". Actually I think that the Manhattan distance uses this metric by definition, so it is not necessary to mention it twice, is it? Of course it is not wrong either. Just have another look at it, please. Shir Khan 21:55, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment. For the Manhattan distance, usually the "standard" metric on integers is used, in which d(m,n) = |m-n|. This gives a Manhattan distance of 3 between 025 and 123 (|0-1|+|2-2|+|5-3|). In the discrete metric, d(m,n) = 1 when m and n are distinct. Using this we get 1+0+1 = 2, which is the Hamming distance. So the addition is necessary.
I think it is mentioned that this is only true for binary strings. At least it was meant like this, I guess.
Maybe it was meant like that, but it is not stated explicitly.
Some problems remain.
  • The article on Taxicab geometry, redirected from Manhattan distance, only handles the two-dimensional case. For mathematicians the generalization to n dimensions is obvious, but this might not be true for the general audience.
Nope, the article and definition handles the generale case, only the example is in the plane.
You're right, I didn't look carefully enough.
  • In the Hamming distance the elements to be compared are elements of a string; look at "toned" and "roses". Again, relating this to the taxicab geometry, where the elements compared are numbers, may be confusing to the general audience.
As mentioned above, I think it is mentioned that this is only true for binary strings.
See above.
All considered, I think it is actually better to remove the whole sentence.
I don't think so. Please have another look at my arguments above.
The problem I see would go away if it is indeed made clear that it refers to binary strings.

I updated the page on hamming distance again. Please have another look at it. Greets, Shir Khan 19:32, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it looks fine now. Lambiam 19:39, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, thanks...[edit]

Gladly. :) lG Shir Khan 19:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI[edit]

It's highly likely the white tiger image you uploaded will be deleted in a few days unless you can cough up some kind of copyright information; preferably, you would find out from the person who sent it to you where (s)he got it from. Take care, —Nightstallion (?) Seen this already? 13:21, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will You Sleep With Me[edit]

Frankly said, no.

I have a nine inch dick which is much bigger than your effeminate fiance Nightstallion`s tiny two inch penis.

That's not enough to make up for your lack of brains and manners. ;)

glad to be your aqaintance. If you would like to see my edits please look at the history of the Guy Walters article.

Had a look at it... seems to me as if there is no proof for your accusations, is there?

I was formely a Wiki user but with all you bastards looking down on me for misspelling words I decided. FUCK YOU I`m going over to the RIGHT SIDE.

Being annoyed at your misspellings probably is only a result of being annoyed at your behaviour.

OI I`ve just realised you called me English.
Did I? Can't remember. My recent contributions don't know anything about it either. So I guess you are wrong.
I am not English, BRITAIN IS NOT ENGLISH.
Where's the difference?
What kind of a biased fuck up are you ?
What kind... Hmmmm, let me think... Well, I'd say I'm a quite patient and friendly kind of a biased fuck up. What do you think?
Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 23:07, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where's the difference?
There is a large gang of Scotsmen, Welshmen and Irishmen behind me who would very much like to kill you.
So the difference is that British are more likely than Englishmen to use violance when they run out of words?
Can you please piss off
It's my userspace, therfore, no.
and stop insulting our country, YOU DON`T EVEN FUCKING LIVE THERE.
Does that mean that if I lived there, I would have more reason for insulting it?

May I ask you one question? Why do you do all this? I mean, blanking pages, changing articles, and simply trying to annoy everyone here. There are a hundred better things you can kill time with, so why this? And don't tell me anything about political interests, as the main thing you do is using swearwords and adding faked information to biographies.
regards, Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 22:38, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This Guy has a point, England is one out of four countries in Great Britain. Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England. Just because England have the biggest population, does not give a fucking reason to call Britain England,
Actually, Great Britain only consists of Scotland, Wales and England, but not Northern Ireland, which is only part of the United Kingdom. Look it up before giving me another sermon. ;-) Honestly, I know the difference quite well, I'm just trying to annoy our friend, the TypeVandal. ;-)
and if you are wondering, I am not the TypeVandal,
Well, you don't use a username or at least a signature either.
i am an innocent bystander sticking up for his country so Yeah stick it up were the sun don't shine.
I think that this would not be an appropriate place for a country. ;)

Oh damn, and I had thought we were making good progress concerning your behaviour and spelling. ;-)

Why do you call British people English,

I don't. If you disagree, please tell me where I did so during the last few days. Yes, I was talking about English language and English culture, both of which are really English and not British. Concerning the language you might have noticed that this is the English wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) and concerning the culture I think that you would be even more angry if I didn't make any difference. So please tell me, when did I call British people English?
And one more thing I want you to think about: How the hell am I supposed to know that you are from Scotland when I only know your IP address? To be honest, in the beginning I was quite sure you were from the USA, according to your spelling and your AOL-IP.

we are A UNITED KINGDOM. Understand Ya Fanny. Am Fe Glesga, It is in Scotland which is part of the United Kingdom. Don`t ever come tae glasgow cause we`ll chib ye. A wait a forgot ya dick ya dont know where glesga is, WE ARE BRITISH AND SO WE WILL REMAIN, NOW FUCK OF YA HUN PRICK

I can remember insulting you (of being bad at orthography, I never said anything about your nationality), but I can't remember insulting your alleged friends. So what reason would they have to help you? ;-)

regards, Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 20:08, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YOURE TYING TO SAY THAT Britain is stupid and that the that wankshaft of a nation the USA is better.

No, I'm not. ::sigh:: Can you please start reading before interpreting?

Away and fuck yoursel ya hun lesbian. Its all these human rights fannys and politically correct cunts that are destroying my country

So that means that you are against human rights?

Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 21:30, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YES HANG EM, SHOOT EM, FUCK THEM, I FUCKING HATE ALL THE FUCKING MURDERERS AND PEADOPHILLES ON OUR STREETS

Neither murder nor pedophilia is anything usually approved by people who are for human rights. Also homosexuals or queers in general are not more likely to commit any of these crimes than heterosexuals. I therefore think you have a quite strange understanding of the human rights.

Therefore, a short introduction. If you have some time, I'd be really interested in your opinion about each article:

1 - 2: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights and should try to be nice to each other.

3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

4: No slavery.

5: No torture.

6-8: Equality before and protection of the law. (Yes, Mr. Bush, this also applies to Guantanamo Bay.)

9: No arbitrary arrest, detention or exile. (Yes, Mr. Bush, this also applies to Guantanamo Bay.)

10-11: Everyone must get a fair trial before being punished for anything; everyone is regarded innocent until he is proved being guilty.

12: No arbitrary interference with someone's privacy, family, home or correspondence.

13-15: Freedom of movement within and between states.

16: Right to marry and found a family; no forced marriages.

17: Right to private property.

18: Right to freedom of thought and religion.

19: Right to freedom of speech.

20: Right to peaceful assembly and association.

21: Right to take part in political decisions; right to elections; voted representatives should act accordingly to the will of the people.

22: Right to social security.

23: Right to work, to free choice of employment and to equal and appropriate pay.

24: Reasonable limitation of working hours, right to holiday.

25-27: Right to a standard of living including food, clothing, housing, medical care, education and cultural life.

28-30: Everyone should behave in a way that doesn't interfere with other persons' rights.

So tell me: What about this is so horrible?

YOU`RE FUCKING REPLY IS TO BRING MORE FUCKING IMMIGRANTS INTO THE COUNTRY WHO TAKE OUR JOBS, MONEY, AND WOMEN AND THEN TRY TO KILL US.

If they try to kill you it's most probably because you tried to kill them first... At least according to what you said in your last statements. You see, respect is something that has to come from both sides.

NEVER COME TO GLESGA OR WE`LL CHIB YE. D`YOU MA LAST SENTENCE YA PIE ?

Not quite, I'm still having problems with your grammar. ;-)

One more question, though I'm quite sure you won't answer it either... How old are you?

OLD ENOUGH TAE SHAG YIR MAU regards, Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 22:31, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YOU`VE JUST ADMITTED TO BEING A PEEDO OMG P.S.: Actually, pedophilia itself is not a crime but a psychological diagnosis. Sorry for the little inaccuracy above.

By saying that I am illiterate you are making fun of oor Glega dialect ya pie

A question I have longing to ask[edit]

Question: Why do you call Great Britain, England? Wales, Ireland and My home country, Scotland, are all part of Britain, we obvisiously see another Stereotype...

Hmmm, good question. Although I'm quite sure of not having done so here recently, I have to admit that I certainly sometimes call it like this without thinking about it a lot. I think it's simply a bad habit, and one that is even harder to get rid of because it's shared by so many people. And the reason for that might simply be lazyness. My mother tongue is German, and whereas in English it's "Eng-land", "Bri-tain" and "U-K", in German it's "Eng-land", "Groß-Brit-tan-ni-en" and "Ver-ein-ig-tes-Kö-nig-reich". The first is simply much shorter to say, and so it's often used to refer to anything that is beyond the English Channel, and for many people here this even includes the whole of Ireland. I think that it really doesn't have to do with any political opinion, not even with stereotypes, but that it's really simple inaccuracy of language.
However, I'd gladly hear your opinion about it. I never meant to insult anyone and I'm sorry if I did so.

Yes, yes, yes, don't be impatient. I simply had a fine day of holiday and didn't check wikipedia before right now. =]
regards, Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 20:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, It's just a bit insulting when Scotland gets called England, we're such an unknown country, it's a but insulting to us.

Well, anyone who speaks German is regarded as a German, even if he's from Austria, but if maybe 10% auf Austrians vote for the Freedom Party of Austria, international sanctions are imposed on the whole country. Life's not fair. ;)
And concerning stereotypes I know quite well that the English are those with the awful food, Scotish those with the kilts and Austrians those with the Dirndl and Lederhosen. ;-) (Just kiddin'. ;) )
None the less, I don't think that Scotland is unknown here. For example when people want to go to holiday somewhere, they know the difference very well. I guess the thing is that for most purposes, people don't care differentiating. It's in fact not that important where exactly a music band or BSE comes from.

Alright Mon I`m Back[edit]

Still there ya hun prick wantin immigraes to rape oor gurls eh ? my ancestors fought in twa world wars tae stop the foreign hordes taking oor country, but fannies like you shavoed them aside happy ya bastard

Sorry you had to wait for my answer. However, I have to remind you that English still isn't my mother tongue. Could you please repeat the sentence above using words that I can look up in some dictionary? Shir Khan (?-"-!) — 20:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the PC translation

Are you still there you hun prick ? wanting immigrants to rape our girls eh ? my ancestors fought in two world wars to stop the foreign hordes taking our country, but fannies like you shoved them aside happy you bastard ?

Sorry again for not answering for such a long time. Basically, yes, I am still here; I don't want immigrants to rape anyone, but I also don't think that they are any more dangerous than natives; and the part about the world wars I don't quite understand, could you please explain?

Hi

Just letting WikiProject Buffyverse members know that the article 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' has recently been nominated as a candidate to become a featured article. Should it become a featured article, it will be possible for the article to appear on the Wikipedia main page on March 10th 2007, the 10th anniversary of Buffy (the premiere, "Welcome to the Hellmouth" aired March 10th 1997).

Any feedback you can offer to improve the article and/or to either object or support the nomination would be wonderful:
