Thank you for uploading File:Neville-Teller.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:49, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Neville-Teller.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Neville-Teller.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:01, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing a source for the photo; however, there's nothing on that website that indicates the photo has been released under an acceptable free license or that the copyright holder (the person who took the photo, not the subject of the photo) has given their WP:CONSENT. For reference, anything appearing online is going to be assumed to be protected by the most restrictive type of copyright even if there's no copyright notice indicated unless it clearly states otherwise, and anything protected by such a copyright is not going to be able to be host by Wikipedia unless it can be demonstated that the copyright holder (again the photographer who took the photo, not the subject of said photo) has released the image under a copyright license free enough for Wikipedia's purposes. So, Wikipedia needs some formal way of verifying (1) the copyright status of the photo and (2) the copyright holder has released the photo under an acceptable free license since verbal or written exchanges between you and the subject of the photo are insufficient for such verification. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:10, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have forwarded an email with permission from the owner to permissions-commonswikimedia.org. Shirgr (talk) 14:57, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a VRT member, but I've heard forwarded emails often end up being declined with a request to have the copyright holder themselves directly email VRT instead. Anyway, you should've received an automated reply from VRT that contained a ticket number. If you didn't, check your email's spam folder to make sure it didn't end up there by mistake. This ticket number is like a "case number" so keep a record of it somewhere. You can use it in further exchanges with VRT (if any) about the email or the file. Since you've emailed VRT, you can add the template {{Permission pending}} to the file's page. This are instructions on how to do this at Template:Permission pending. This will let others know that VRT has been emailed. Once a VRT member has reviewed the email, they will replace the template with either {{Permission ticket}} or {{Permission received}}. The first one means that everything checked out and the VRT member has verified the license. The other one means that there was some issue with the email and that more information is needed. In the latter case, VRT might email you back explaining in more detail what the issue was and what is needed to verify the license. If, however, you notice this template has been added and haven't gotten an email from VRT, check your email's spam folder. If you still don't find any email, you can ask about it at Wikipedia:VRT noticeboard. Be advised, though, that VRT members aren't allowed to publicly go into any details about the emails they assess; they will answer general questions but nothing more. VRT members also will not discuss specifics (even by email) without anyone other that the emailer themselves and will only do so with the account used for the original email. Finally, like all WP:WIKIPEDIANs, VRT members are WP:VOLUNTEERs who work at their own pace; moreover, there tends to be many more things requiring verification than there are VRT members; so, you need to be patient and let the process run its course. If, by chance, the file is deleted before the process is finished, don't re-upload the file because it's actually only being hidden from public view and can be easily restored once the licensing has been verified. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
