Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Shorescanada", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. -- Rrburke (talk) 13:42, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have opened this account on Wikimedia Commons in September 2014. I remember reviewing the username policy at that time and until now was in belief that my choice of username was acceptable. I have used the "shores"-identity in variation since about 1995 or so (we had engaged in a music project called "for distant shores"), so i would rather stick with the current name if it's permitted. However if the choice of name was not ok at the time i apologize and would agree to change the name of this account if that's an option. -- Shorescanada (talk) 19:43, 11 April 2016 (MST)

I'm afraid that your username, as the name of a company, implies shared use and is therefore contrary to WP:NOSHARING and WP:CORPNAME. You are not prohibited from including the company name in your new username (though it is discouraged), e.g. "Jake at Shorescanada" or the like, as long as it's clear that the username represents a single person and that you don't begin editing promotionally on behalf of Shores Canada. In the latter case it would probably be ruled that the username itself is promotional.
Your contributions so far would be transferred to your new username; you wouldn't be opening a brand new account. All you need to do is fill out the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest. -- Rrburke (talk) 12:38, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
