Earl of Minto
Sorry to revert, but I saw no edit summary nor source to justify the inclusion of the second name John. Feel free to reinstate if you have a source! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:42, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Laterthanyouthink: Thanks, I thought it would be common knowledge - https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/term/BIOG172704 https://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/person/mp50057/gilbert-john-elliot-murray-kynynmound-4th-earl-of-minto also noted on Wikidata. - @Laterthanyouthink: 🤦 Noted. Thank you! Shyamal (talk) 13:44, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- No worries. Easily confused, with those titles of nobility and those similar but different (and often ridiculous IMO!) selections of names added, hyphenated and passed down through the generations. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:27, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Edit for S.A.Hussain
Hello Mr. Shyamal,
I'm the great-niece of Mr. S. A. Hussain (1942-2010), and the daughter of Mr. Hussain's niece Mrs. Yasmin Ahmed I.A.S. (1945-2014).
I have been aware of my grand uncle's Wikipedia page for a long while, but only a few days ago did I attempt to add content to his personal history. By the way, my great grandfather's name (i.e. S. A. Hussain's father) is actually incorrect. I did correct his name as well.
All this time I didn't know how to contact the site admins, but today, when exploring the page, I realized that I could perhaps contact you this way. I hope this message reaches you.
I understand that you didn't know who I was and how I'm related to S. A. Hussain. Hence, I wish to explain that if edits were made, then they were made with some authentic knowledge of the subject's history. Therefore I humbly request you to add my content to my grand uncle's wiki page, thank you very much.
Sincerely, Amina Ahmed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:243:405:1F40:2806:98D8:3144:F479 (talk) 13:58, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out Amina. I knew S. A. Hussain personally too. The basic rule of Wikipedia is that all information is added and supported based not on authority or personal knowledge but by citing published sources for the information. Regarding the edits, all of them are seriously in need of sources - do check WP:RS - so
- 1 You mention that his father's name is incorrect and have added "Khan Saheb Haji" as a prefix and it is known that these are honorifics and Wikipedia has the guideline on skipping them.
- 2 You mention that his name is Andar rather than Abdulla - this too really needs a published and reliable source.
- 3 You added "This role at the BNHS gave him the opportunity to meet the luminaries, business leaders, and celebrities of the world - Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Prince Charles of England, Lord and Lady MacNiece of Cathay Pacific, Arundhati Roy, Dr. George Archibald (International Crane Foundation, Wisconsin), to name a few" - this is a bit out of scope and again without citations.
Let me know if you need more assistance. Shyamal (talk) 14:16, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Query
Hello Shyamal. I was wondering what makes a page "semi-protected" like the Calcutta page has shown by the lock symbol? Does the page need to have certain information for this to happen or go through reviews? And a slightly different subject, how do I go about creating a new page about a person? I remember you had mentioned that is a long process. I can provide all the information about a person for whom I would like the new page and work with you for the creation (assuming that is possible). Please let me know. --SShasana9 (talk) 02:07, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- @SShasana9: - pages get protected by those with admin privileges if they see a prolonged pattern of vandalism from a wide range of users. Sometimes the protection is for a limited period when something disturbing is happening, and sometimes it is permanent as for important people. If the person can be demonstrated to be notable with lots of published and reliable sources - you should be able to go via the Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation - it tends to be much harder in practice though. Do create the article in your sandbox and I can guide you further. Shyamal (talk) 03:35, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, Shyamal. I will create it in my sandbox and we can go from there. --SShasana9 (talk) 03:47, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
Preening
Hi Shyamal: I hope that your year is off to a good start. I've just brought preening to GA, and the reviewer has recommended that I carry on to the FA lion's den (which is where I'd planned to bring it eventually). I'd like to list you as a co-nominator, since you were the one who started it. Are you game? MeegsC (talk) 17:43, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @MeegsC: - you have done so much more to it than I could possibly have. Will be happy to help out but not necessary to add my name as a co-nom. Shyamal (talk) 02:52, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Picture?
Hi Shyamal: Given your expertise with a mousepad, I'm wondering if I could "commission" you to do a drawing or two for the preening article. I'm being asked to provide a better diagram showing the structure of a feather (i.e. shaft, barbs, barbules, barbicels with their hooks) and I can't find anything decent available CC online. Would you have time? Or could you suggest someone who might? MeegsC (talk) 17:07, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- @MeegsC: Will need a bit of time - would something based on Frank Gill 4th ed work - yet to look up my copy though. If you know a good source, do let me know. Shyamal (talk) 17:32, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm sure that would work — I've got the second edition here, and I know he has some appropriate diagrams there. I'll let the reviewers know it's coming at some point. MeegsC (talk) 17:34, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- this has a nice picture based on Lucas and Stettenheim... Shyamal (talk) 17:44, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Something like that would do nicely! I've been asked to replace the poor-res, very orange picture in the preening action section of the article. MeegsC (talk) 11:49, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- @MeegsC: - have begun the work, here is an incomplete draft, the web zoom in the square area still needs to be completed but I thought your comments at this stage would help. File:Feather_zipping_microstructure.svg Shyamal (talk) 17:30, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wow! You're quick! It looks great. Can we add an intermediate step between the square and the closeup? MeegsC (talk) 19:37, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- @MeegsC: good idea, I will try and add it but in the meantime I found this article and contents which are under a cc-by-4.0 license - https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264127519308482 - this image - https://ars.els-cdn.com/content/image/1-s2.0-S0264127519308482-gr3_lrg.jpg seems to be a good option. Shyamal (talk) 06:20, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Photo of the family of Nettie Murray on wikipedia is used without permission
Hi,
Thank you for posting about the life and career of my grandmother, Nettie Murray MacGinitie. However the photo you have used for her, while taken in 1910, was not published in 1910. It was kept in our private family collection. It was published first on the website you cite as a source, http://www.genjourney.net/KurzKatherinePage.htm which of course was after the invention of the internet. That website also says that the contents are copyrighted.
Please remove the photo of Nettie Murray's family from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nettie_Murray_1910.jpg and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nettie_MacGinitie

Sir Alfred Chatterton
Hi, Thank you for starting the page on Alfred Chatterton who was my great uncle. I have written an extensive biography on my user pages at User:Tango Mike Bravo/Alfred Chatterton but have not moved it to main space because of conflict of interest. There are also suggestions for pages to link to Alfred Chatterton on the talk page. If you want to, and only if you want to, please feel free to use as much or as little as you want from my user page. I will place a similar message to this on Talk:Alfred Chatterton. Regards, Tango Mike Bravo (talk) 11:32, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Tango Mike Bravo: - thank you. I think you should be able to enhance/merge your additional information bits from reliable sources without incurring any C-o-I charges. Most of all, it would be great if you used your family connection to find an out-of-copyright image! Good luck. Shyamal (talk) 11:40, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- If I understand WP:COISELF correctly I should post requests for adding information on the talk page as per WP:COIREQ. As to a photo of Alfred Chatterton, the only one I know of I have written extensively about at User_talk:Tango Mike Bravo/Alfred Chatterton#Photo of Alfred Chatterton . Tango Mike Bravo (talk) 12:16, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- Setting aside the wording - I would look at it in terms of the spirit of the CoI rules - you are not citing sources written by you, you are not promoting the subject (deceased) or self - the sources are independent, third-party references, you are not removing any content, and therefore is no major real conflict. The section on "Making uncontroversial edits" holds. Shyamal (talk) 13:25, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Tango Mike Bravo: if you can locate a better copy of this book - there is a portrait that would be "PD-India" on Commons - https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.523178/page/n219/mode/1up Shyamal (talk) 15:10, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Nasarvanji Hormusji Choksy
On 7 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nasarvanji Hormusji Choksy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Indian doctor Nasarvanji Hormusji Choksy, who worked to improve public health, contracted bubonic plague three times? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nasarvanji Hormusji Choksy. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Nasarvanji Hormusji Choksy), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi, I've just ordered a new biography of this person (the retitled paperback version of the Boase book), and having recently taken Emma Louisa Turner to FA, I thought of doing the same to this once I have the book. I see you are the major contributor at present, do you want to co-nominate? The book title is Etta Lemon, so it might be appropriate to move the page at some stage. Do you have access to the two dictionaries listed in the refs (may not matter)? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:10, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Jimfbleak: oh, I missed the Turner article! Yes, Etta Lemon will be interesting, but I doubt I will have much original to add if you have that book. I guess you should also look at Phyllis Barclay-Smith who was Etta's niece who inherited the nickname of the dragon. About those two dictionaries, I have access to one - but no longer have access to the ODNB, but that should be easy to get via WP:RX. Rest over email. Hope all is well out there. Shyamal (talk) 15:34, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for that. I've literally just ordered the book, so it will be a few days before it comes. We are all well here, have avoided the plague so far, although cases are climbing again. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:45, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, I think I'm pretty well done in terms of content, so basically an unchecked draft now exists. I'm going to be pretty busy IRL for about a week on-and-off, so if you fancy co-nominating still, perhaps you could take a look. No pressure though, cheers Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:37, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
Etta Lemon
I can't find anything more to add, and I can't see any unfixed problems (doesn't mean that there aren't any). I'm suggesting that we take this to FAC soon. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:24, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
- It looks ok but could do with another independent eye reading through it. I have had precious little to contribute to it, so please do feel free to take it to FAC. Shyamal (talk) 18:01, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
@Jimfbleak: it would appear that this image here from Surrey History Centre Archives - from a 1913 album - 'Borough of Reigate Jubilee year of incorporation: some portraits' by H P Robinson and Son, Redhill- https://www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk/collections/getrecord/SHCOL_6918_1_4_1_4 - would be pd-1923 and save a lot of the fair-use issues. Shyamal (talk) 15:44, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- Boase lists them as the copyright holders too, so that looks plausible even though she's clearly older than in the existing image Jimfbleak - talk to me? 17:50, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- The image you have linked is dated 1913, and is therefore clearly out of copyright. Although the existing image is obviously of a younger Lemon, we can't date it, which is why fair use was invoked. I think we have no option but to replace the image since you can't have a fair use image if there is a free alternative. I'll download the lady mayoress image to commons and use it in the article. @Nikkimaria: so she know what we are up to Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:30, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Subhas Chandra Bose
Can you have a look at Subhas Chandra Bose? The Fowler&fowler (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has started edit warrings. He already got three eddit warring warnings in this month. I tried to improve the readability of the lead of the article but he reverted it without giving any valid reason other than consensus, which I think isn't needed here as I wasn't removing any content. In the end he has disrupted the lead in revenge. Also he is adding false sources for his content as apparent on my last revert, which I have taken back. The source doesn't mention the facts he is claiming to be there and now he is telling me that he don't have the book at the moment and that's why he did it.
Looking for an unbiased third party opinion. Please take a look. Akshaypatill (talk) 05:00, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, cannot help as that is not my area of expertise. The normal procedure however would be to take the discussion to the talk page with sources and then discuss the issue. Not all sources may be considered equally reliable and that can be discussed there. Shyamal (talk) 05:04, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
The pretender
Hey Shyamal: I'm sure you know who I mean. I found a cropped version of this photo File:Western_ghats_rainforest,_nilgiris.jpg on the cover of a newsletter by the Rainforest Trust, see https://online.anyflip.com/zzrd/myic/mobile/index.html. Rhett Butler, founder of Mongobay, took similar photos using a DJI drone in Peru, see e.g. this one at https://travel.mongabay.com/peru/images/amazon_200238.html. He made some 300 photos taken in Peru available, several for free download. So highly likely that the pretender's one is among them. I haven't come across anyone cheating as much as the pretender did, so think it worthwhile to check his future edits rigorously. Cheers – BhagyaMani (talk) 12:37, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I saw the blatant lack of integrity and honesty, the person is clearly young and naiive, and hopefully will recognize their own incompetence at some point in life. I do not have the time or interest to look at that person's specific contributions, I can however hope to someday recruit people who actually know better to fix that article in its entirety. Much easier just to remove all their content, there is little really worth keeping even if it is true. Shyamal (talk) 12:54, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
- Y'day, they again uploaded an image to Commons that is a copy-vio: a snapshot with a cell phone from a video published at YouTube. Quite inventive, I must say, but didn't learn a thing. – BhagyaMani (talk) 08:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Hey Shyamal: I'm afraid s/he again uploaded an array of images to Commons, allegedly taken during a night safari in Mudumalai NP. But their quality is so low that these are surely part of vdos. So I looked at several night-time vdos by Jasoprakas Debdas & colleagues. Compare the frame at minute 6:10 in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LdnGhI9yUE with this image File:Night ride in Mudumalai - Huge tusker.jpg. I'll tag it for speedy deletion as soon as you let me know that you have seen it. – BhagyaMani (talk) 22:10, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- A pity that the user does not seem to show any sign of learning. Incredible that you could trace that image to a specific frame in a YouTube video! It certainly is that one. Shyamal (talk) 02:23, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- And this img File:Night_ride_in_Mudumalai_-_Sambar_deer.jpg from this vdo frame at minute 2:09 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z99d5xxHgAY ? – BhagyaMani (talk) 07:25, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Hey again: apparently, a new editor is following in Shaan Vinoth's footsteps and uploaded at least 2 images violating copyright of original photographers. Shaan Vinoth inserted these within less than 5 minutes after the former had uploaded images, and many more in the guy's upload list are unchecked. I suggest to refrain from displaying their images in any page. What do you think? – BhagyaMani (talk) 12:01, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oh dear, I am sure this is just annoying. I see they are deleted. Shyamal (talk) 12:07, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I added the relevant tag this morning. And wonder whether the new guy is a sock? – BhagyaMani (talk) 12:16, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- I cannot help about the Commons situation, but if you think the disruption is excessive, I can put the Mudumalai article on protection for some time. Shyamal (talk) 12:22, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- The other guy inserted just one img in the page, which got replaced. And protecting the page won't keep SV from continuing their 'adding + replacing images' spree, for which they'd better use their sandbox, imo. – BhagyaMani (talk) 12:37, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Torben Bjørn Larsen
Many thanks. As we are Torben was a naturalist in the classical tradition. There is a matter which still troubles me.With the advent of maths as misunderstood Hennig (cladistics) and misapplied chemistry (DNA) we lost faith in the very foundation of our own science.Worse we discouraged the very able members of our own ranks not given to this spurious modernity. The French were, I think, less gullible (see Sciences Nat.Torben in my book was an Apostle of Linnaeus as indeed was the maligned Bernard d'Abrera. Nice to hear from you Robert Notafly (talk) 21:22, 21 November 2021 (UTC) Ps Time passes quickly now that I am 76.
Mudumalai NP
Hey Shyamal: you may have noticed that I overhauled this page, i.e. removed unsourced + added sourced content. At present, this page is rated C-class. Would you find some time to review it + perhaps upgrade it to B?
There is still a wealth of material to add as so much research has been conducted in the past 3+ decades. I'll continue to work on this in the next days, and later perhaps GAN it, if you think it'll be worthwhile. Cheers, BhagyaMani (talk) 15:52, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- I will take a look - it certainly needs a good map, let me check around for a reliable delineation or shapefile. Shyamal (talk) 11:02, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Did you not find a map? Please let me know whether you are still interested to look into the page's rating. – BhagyaMani (talk) 07:39, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- I found a rather low resolution and also outdated outline. Part of the problem apparently is that there is no legally defined boundary, with a very fluid boundary with private estates on the foothills of the Nilgiris (a colonial legacy, unfortunately). I am a bit stretched at the moment, and I know some people who know the area and literature very well, but will have to sit along with them to do anything useful. Nothing time bound, I am afraid, but will keep it in mind. Shyamal (talk) 07:58, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

this does not seem to work inside the infobox template though... nor am I able to align this to the right or left.Shyamal (talk) 05:52, 25 November 2021 (UTC)- Super. I only moved the map to left, as the first few lines of text were squeezed between map and image. I understand this shape shows NP boundary, not of Tiger Reserve? – BhagyaMani (talk) 08:57, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

- I don't think there is a difference, the source says Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, I think National Park was an older dwsignation. Shyamal (talk) 09:15, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- There is indeed a difference : Tiger Reserve = NP + a buffer zone : see last sentence in section Geography with ref. – BhagyaMani (talk) 10:12, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- I am not sure that is correct - the sanctuary has historically had different designations and levels of protection - https://ntca.gov.in/assets/uploads/notification/tigerreserve/Mudumalai.pdf - and there are slight changes in the area covered over time but at no simultaneous point in time are there two boundaries - one for National Park and another for the Tiger Reserve. In fact it is now only a Tiger Reserve - the article should perhaps be moved. Core and buffer zones were and continue to be designated within the boundaries. Shyamal (talk) 12:15, 25 November 2021 (UTC) [PS: I did a summation of the areas - and it does come up to 321 sq. km]
- Yes, this matches with all of the ref'ed sources. But as stated by Jhala et al. (2020), the Tiger Reserve includes a bufferzone around the NP:
The core area of the reserve is 321 km2, with a buffer of 367.59 km2, the total area of the tiger reserve is approximately 688.59 km2
. – BhagyaMani (talk) 14:27, 25 November 2021 (UTC)- Have a look at this (one author being a high-rank forest officer) - "from the contiguous forests of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (321km2), the Nilgiri North Division (448km2) and the Nilgiri South Division (199km2), which together cover an area of 968km2 (Fig. 1). MTR being a Tiger Reserve falls under IUCN category II (National Park), whereas NND and NSD consist of Reserved Forests (Indian Forest Act 1927, http://envfor.nic.in/legis/forest/forest4.html) which come under IUCN category V (protected landscape) if they are buffer zones of protected areas (http://www.iucn.org/about/work/programmes/gpap_home/gpap_quality/gpap_pacategories, viewed 26 January 2015)." Also this - "Mudumalai National Park was established in 1940 and notified as a tiger reserve in 2007." from doi:10.1177/1940082918802758 - clearly there is no "National Park" since 2007 except as historical usage. Interestingly this paper from 2002 says Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary was also 321 km2. But there is this which does support your claim. I think that has just been a proposal that did not progress - due to the number of human habitations within the larger zone being suggested. Shyamal (talk) 14:38, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- The description in your last link is consistent with the info provided by Jhala et al. (2020) that the TR consists of a core zone and a buffer zone, the core zone being the NP. I trust that the Wildlife Institute of India folks have the correct info, the more so as their report is passed through the National Tiger Conservation Authority before being published. – BhagyaMani (talk) 16:26, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – December 2021
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2021).
- Unregistered editors using the mobile website are now able to receive notices to indicate they have talk page messages. The notice looks similar to what is already present on desktop, and will be displayed on when viewing any page except mainspace and when editing any page. (T284642)
- The limit on the number of emails a user can send per day has been made global instead of per-wiki to help prevent abuse. (T293866)
- Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee Elections is open until 23:59, 06 December 2021 (UTC).
- The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.
Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. I am fine with the idea that all new articles I create go through the New Page Patrol / review process. Shyamal (talk) 08:45, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I think your articles are fine (actually sets a very high standard), and going through review process is not needed, and will just add work for reviewers. I'll be happy to add this autopatrolled right (you can do it as well). Let me know what you think. --Titodutta

New Page - Sean Bush
Hi there,
I was told the draft for Dr Sean Bush was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sean_Bush meets the Wikipedia Notability for Academia by Wiki Admin Jim (Cullen328), however, he asked it to be reviewed by a topic expert and someone in the science and academia group or ask for help through the TeaHouse. I've reached out to TeaHouse and they also directed me to the WikiProject Science and Academmia Group. I'm reaching out to you on hopes you can review the page for notability. I noticed you have been watching links to spiders and snakes so thought Dr. Bush's page would be a good fit for your review.
Much appreciated, Nicole Beansalad3 (talk) 03:39, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Beansalad3: - the article looks fine except for the notability sources as appropriately noted by the other reviewer - it would seem that reviewers are looking for the subject to be demonstrated as an academic of note in this case but I think it might be more appropriate to find "reliable" third-party sources to demonstrate that the subject is a science communicator of repute - for his work on snake venom related TV shows / documentaries. I am not sure what site has reviews of science documentaries and science communicators that would settle the issue of reliability though. Shyamal (talk) 03:55, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Shyamal: - Thanks and appreciate the quick response. I tried a few other folks in the group but never heard back so thanks again. Jim (Cullen328) felt it met the notability criteria but when I look on the page I am only seeing the comment from JSFarnum. Here is the talk with Jim and JSFarnum and why I reached out. How do I find a subject expert who can review?
- Beansalad3 (talk), It's JSFarman, not JSFarnum. And always a good idea to ping an editor if you refer to them in a discussion. JSFarman (talk) 04:58, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
I think that Wikipedia:Notability (academics) is relevant here. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:20, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
And there you have it. Cullen328 is a reviewer and an admin and (IMHO) whatever he says goes. I still think the article needs to be more focused but at least you know that notability will be met. (Thanks Cullen328.) JSFarman (talk) 19:46, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the kind words, JSFarman, but I am just another editor with a few extra buttons. What needs to be determined is the impact of his work which has been published in peer reviewed academic journals on other academics, which usually means how frequently his work is cited in other academic journal articles. This is not an area where I have expertise (I only have a bachelor's degree) but I am just bringing this forth as a strong possibility based on what I see in the draft. Technically, I am a reviewer because I am an administrator, but I only occasionally accept AFC drafts. If any editor who is skilled in assessing academic notability concludes that he is notable, I will accept it. And I will look more deeply. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:51, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
Using the Google Scholar search tool, I see that academic journal articles with him as the lead author being cited 93, 86 and 77 times. I see articles with him as a co-author being cited 159, 91 and 52 times. And there are many more cited articles. That is very positive evidence, in my opinion. Possibly, snakebite scholars are cited more than scholars working in less dramatic topic areas. I do not know about that, but I do believe that this draft deserves a topic expert assessment. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:41, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
Nicole Beansalad3 (talk) 04:08, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Beansalad3: as far as the spirit of the AFC process goes, the decision is primarily on whether the subject is worthy of encyclopaedic coverage or not, I am quite sure it is the former. Unfortunately, I am not sure how the AfC acceptance process now happens because my user interface does not show me an "accept" button which I think I would have happily clicked for this entry. Shyamal (talk) 04:15, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

- Yes, I have enabled it. And I tested it out on a few new AFCs and it shows the accept option. I am fairly sure it did not show it for the above draft. Shyamal (talk) 07:48, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- You seemed to have looked after it had been declined once and not resubmitted again. You should have seen a banner like the one currently at Draft:Harold Kenworthy with the "Resubmit" button at the bottom left corner. You should also be able to access the AFCH options through the "More" menu to the right of history tab, one of which is to submit the draft. Only after a draft is submitted do you get the "accept" button. Do you see them for this draft? If you do, all should be all right when next you need to review an AFC submission. Regards! WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
About Sunker Bhisey - Shankar Abaji Bhisey?
Hi Shyamal,
When I came across this article, my first thought was "hmm, "Sunker" would appear to be a bad transliteration of Shankar (name)", analogous to how Thakur is "anglicised" as "Tagore".
The BBC has a 1999 article about Shankar Abaji Bhisey who would appear to be the same person.
Unless Bhisey's forename is most the one commonly used in reliable English language sources as "Sunker", it would appear me that its should be moved to an article of the title Shankar Abaji Bhisey.
I would appreciate your thoughts and expertise about this
Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:15, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Shirt58: Shankar would be the current Indian transcription but he officially seems to have gone under the contemporary spelling of "Sunker" and the Marathi spelling would be Bhisey while he clearly seems to have used Bisey in his US Patent applications. Would add a redirect IMO. Shyamal (talk) 10:18, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
