Thanks for your help, and a question[edit]

Thanks for adding the novels tag to the talk page of The American Gun Mystery. Since I'm working at adding pages to all the Ellery Queen mystery novels, I've added the same tag to all the pages I created recently and will continue to do so for new pages concerned with novels that I create. When I have a little more time, I'll look into just what part of the project I should join, and I appreciate your prompting me and showing me what was appropriate. (I'm kind of new here but want to do things right.) My question is in connection with the infobox that I copied for my recent pages, including The American Gun Mystery. For some reason, the line near the end that says "followed by" works fine, but the line above it, "preceded by", doesn't display. Could I trouble you to tell me if you know why that has happened, and what I should do to fix it? Many thanks in advance. Accounting4Taste 05:28, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your prompt and informative help. I copied the infobox from an existing one and -- horrifying for an old copy editor like me -- didn't notice the typo. I'll go back and clean up my previous pages and do better from here on in. Much obliged!! Accounting4Taste 05:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Film update[edit]

Good work! That's what I meant when I said that the words "the" and "on" are likely to produce false positives. Titles like Special effects of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and Characters from The Incredibles should be left alone. "Carry On" seems to be a phrasal verb and should be capitalized too, so I would just move the first two sections to the list of exceptions. Disney's The Kid has already be moved and And Now For Something Completely Different is surely going to be moved soon. Requested moves has been completed. Thank you very much for your effort!

It took you only few days to clear the list so probably there wouldn't be many pages needing to be moved if I refreshed the list now with the same regular expression I used before. Perhaps it could be improved though. Recently, I was looking for the following words: are, her, him, his, is, it, my, our, their, A, An, And, At, For, From, Into, Of, On, Or, The, To, With. Do you have any ideas what else could be included? Best regards, Jogers (talk) 08:34, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

=Indian stubs[edit]

I'm glad you noticed - its good that User:Haphar is filling in the gaps in Indian filml but I wish he would add a poster and cast at the very least and at least put a film tag in the talk page -I've tried to contact him about it. I hope he'll try to do that little bit more -it makes a big difference with a poster and cast - I've added it so about 4 of his new articles ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 12:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do you always seem to know whats going on!!!! Good job with the cast tagging -I told you it was a good idea and keep up the great work in tagging Regards , your good friend ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 12:23, 24 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

The Dig (novel)[edit]

Hi there! I notice that you added a wikiproject novels tag to the discussion page of the article I commenced and wrote (and of which I am the only editor so far) on The Dig (novel). This has since been 'rated' at 'stub' level of interest and presentation, despite being well-sourced and full of useful factual matter. I would like to point out that this article was not written in connection with any Wikiproject, and that I am not an adherent to or approver of Wikiprojects. The article was certainly not written in order to fit in with any supposed 'official' standard of what such an article should look like, nor was it meant to reflect a general analytical statement about the work's literary merits in abstract. The purpose of the article is quite simply to differentiate between the fictional aspects of the story and the factual context in which the author has pretended to set it. I have worked in the field of Sutton Hoo scholarship for many years and, as stated in the opening lines of the article, believe it is appropriate that wikipedia should carry a statement differentiating the events as described in the novel from the known historical facts concerning the same events and people, which unfortunately the author has failed to do, thereby propagating falsehoods in a very unfortunate way. I am therefore surprised to find this useful work of Encyclopedic information being Categorized, and then evaluated, on the basis of a categorization which was never intended for it. It seems very hard to be judged on the basis of someone else's imposed framework of reference when that framework is merely a party viewpoint within the freely self-organizing structure of Wikipedia. I wonder, therefore, if you would be so kind as to remove your template, and to replace it with a statement to the effect that this article is not defined or confined within the perameters of your project, whatever those may be? I ask this in order to avoid the discourtesy of doing it myself before asking, since I am sure if you read the article with renewed and sustained attention you will recognise the importance of the information it has been created to deliver. Many thanks, Dr Steven Plunkett 18:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for your reply. Although I do state above that I am the author of what has so far been written in that article I do not state that I own it. I have written or contributed to many articles (see my user page), including originals and edits to others, and am well aware of the 'ownership' policy. I am always glad when someone adds something intelligent to an article which I have begun. I have simply stated that the article as it stands was not written to conform to the standards of your template, nor to answer the perameters which it imposes. In order for it to be fairly understood, that seems to me to be fair... Thankyou (again) for your reply. i hope you will find the text I have written interesting. with good wishes, Dr Steven Plunkett 20:18, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. On the strength of this I am considering transferring the text to a different new page title, possible 'Sutton Hoo Fictions' or something like that. This would avoid the problem of it being an unsatisfactory article on the novel itself, which could be set up as a short stub to be developed in accordance with project standards, but could contain a reference to the new page as well as to the main Sutton Hoo one. Do you think that might be a preferable solution? Dr Steven Plunkett 21:11, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dear SkierRMH, Thankyou very much for sharing concerns about this text. I am sure a path to please all will be found! Good wishes, Dr Steven Plunkett 21:58, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Questionable punctuation?[edit]

I don't make the lists by a bot but with AutoWikiBrowser using regular expressions to filter out certain titles. The possibilities are countless. What do you want to me to look for? A comma followed by a conjunction? Jogers (talk) 08:11, 26 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:MartinPrince.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MartinPrince.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 12:50, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing capitalization issues with this film title on Wikipedia. You moved it to Money from Home (lower case "f") per Wikipedia's guidelines. However, you failed to go back to the original capital "F" page and see what linked to it. This caused a good amount of double-redirects which Wikipedia discourages. I went back and changed them to link the the title with the lower case "f", but in the future please make sure that you go back and fix all those double-redirects. If there are too many of them, the page will be moved back to the old name. Thanks! Donaldd23 16:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Marking "Video Symphony" for deletion[edit]

I am quite curious as to why you requested that the entry "Video Symphony" should be speedily deleted (as it has indeed been). I recall that the reference was one line stating that Video Symphony is a media training school based in California (more or less) and gave a reference to its website address. How is the mentioning of the existence of an organisation - without promoting it - "blatant advertising?" I am afraid you are on a very steep and slippery slope there!

Weight Bench article[edit]

Bench (weight training) - It is probably not that big of a deal but more than half of the article about weight bench is not about a weight bench. It is instead about what a weight bench is not and how people often replace it with a swiss ball. 66.44.125.142 02:30, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did You Know A Storyman and other hoax TV shows[edit]

There are a rash of hoax TV and movie articles up for deletion right now (see Did You Know A Storyman and others in the logs of the last couple of days). It's a bit disconcerting that these hoaxes are still being added to the TV and other wikiprojects almost immediately. it gives the articles a credence they don't really deserve. Shouldn't it have to be proven at a show actually exists before it's added to the project? DarkAudit 13:58, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hadn't thought about it that way. Makes sense, too. Alerts a person or persons more knowledgeable to take a look. Then we can use a bigger hammer to smash the hoaxes into tiny bits. :) DarkAudit 17:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Joan Crawford article[edit]

Hi Skier. We have a new contriboutor creating countless stubs which are not categorized or styled or tagged. I have developed two of them -please monitor User:Carlitos41 thanks

♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 12:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HI Skier. I'm beginning to lose patience with Carlitos. Everyone deserves to be given I chance but he continues to create pretty useless stubs with even proper categories despite my efforts at helping him. Joan Crawford is an iconic actress and her page is probably get a bit of traffic -and peopl look through her filmography and expect decent articles and will be getting many of these poor looking stubs. -Not a good look for wikipedia. Every stub has potential but it wouod makes things much easier if he followed the style. I have now sorted about 8 of his films. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 11:35, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh great work skier. You work so quickly!!! Was there really 35 of them? Yesterday I deleted one of his stubs from wikipedia but later started it again properly. I feel I have told him enough now -he has continued without taking anyone's advice. Speedy deletion is the only way to go. While contribution is always welcome they are or were a mess. Can't he see it is worth putting that tiny bit of extra effort on each one? Ah well. Again great work anyway ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 08:14, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you reverted the removal of various boxes on this page. Could you possibly reply to what I wrote about this on the Talk page when you have time? I was suggesting splitting the page so that you can develop the film section. Thank you. -- Kleinzach 06:57, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for putting The Ducktators in additional categories. Brain40 01:29, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You added a references tag to this article, which is a bit odd. The article concerns what characters appear in which books and movies. The books and movies are listed at the top of the article. The only reference that can possibly count as to whether a particular character appears in a book or a movie is the book or the movie. I don't see the validity of the tag, so I'm going to remove it. - Richfife 17:51, 17 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Talk:Rusty Nails (filmmaker), by Xsxex (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Talk:Rusty Nails (filmmaker) is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Talk:Rusty Nails (filmmaker), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page.
