Mathwworks had formerly been working with Mary Gaulke; based on that and your post at the talk page, I assume you understand the "ground rules" for company reps here. If you have any questions about them, you can ask me here.

If you have any uncertainty about the mission of Wikipedia, how we realize the mission, and why we do things the way we do them, please have a read of User:Jytdog/How. Thanks Jytdog (talk) 14:16, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jytdog: I’m sorry for the many missteps I’m committing here. I’m new to Wikipedia, and despite reading a 100 resources on the editing process, I clearly didn’t get this right. We don’t work with Mary Gaulke anymore but I’ll definitely reach out to her for tips. My apologies for making you spend your time wading through COIs while I catch up on the how-to side. Thanks for replying! Quick note on the logistics of discussing things on Talk pages, which are essential for everything that happens here. In Talk page discussions, we "thread" comments by indenting (see WP:THREAD) - when you reply to someone, you put a colon in front of your comment, which the Wikipedia software will render into an indent when you save your edit; if the other person has indented once, then you indent twice by putting two colons in front of your comment, which the WP software converts into two indents, and so on, and when that gets ridiculous you reset back to the margin (or "outdent") by putting this {{od}} in front of your comment. Threading/indenting also allows you to make it clear if you are also responding to something that someone else responded to if there are more than two people in the discussion; in that case you would indent the same amount as the person just above you in the thread. I hope that all makes sense. And you have this part down, but at the end of the comment, please "sign" by typing exactly four (not 3 or 5) tildas "~~~~" which the WP software converts into a date stamp and links to your talk and user pages when you save your edit. That is how we know who said what to whom and when.
Please be aware that threading and signing are fundamental etiquette here, as basic as "please" and "thank you", and continually failing to thread and sign communicates rudeness, and eventually people may start to ignore you (see here).
I know this is unwieldy, but this is the software environment we have to work on. Sorry about that. Will reply on the substance in a second... Jytdog (talk) 14:10, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The main two things for you to keep in mind are a) aiming for the mission of WP (which is providing people with accepted knowledge, so that they can learn - and not for promoting companies and products) -- I try to explain this in User:Jytdog/How; and b) not editing directly but rather putting proposals through prior review. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 14:12, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
