Angels fear to tread[edit]

Given the issues I've run into with stations, I'm not sanguine about regional organization. I keep looking at the railway signalling articles, which are relentlessly Britocentric, and I throw up my hands at trying to explain North American practice in the same context.

If it were up to me I would organize everything initially according to areas of practice (e.g. locomotives, operation, lines, what-have-you) and maybe initially only organize the historical part by region. Mangoe 15:31, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, with all of the locomotive articles, I was thinking a Locomotive Task Force would be a good starting point. Slambo (Speak) 16:09, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Passengers and stations[edit]

Wouldn't the current stations subproject fit into the passenger task force? Mangoe 19:40, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not in it's present state. The Scope statement on WP:Stations says "This WikiProject aims to provide a standard format for articles about a train station or metro station." Slambo (Speak) 19:54, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's a problem, for as we've seen through the whole "not a timetable" discussion, the distinction between writing articles about stations and writing articles about passenger trains/lines is pretty vague. And if they are going to stand off by themselves, then the whole effort to do something about station stops/lines was pointless, since I doubt they'll buy in on it. Hmmm.... I'll have to do a bit more thinking about that one. If they choose to add passenger trains to the list of articles they maintain, they'll definitely need to update their project scope statement. As to whether it will affect task forces, I think in the general sense it won't hurt (much). We'll have to see as we start into the specifics. It wouldn't bother me if we don't initiate a passenger trains task force. Slambo (Speak) 21:23, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
