New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Slashme, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!
The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

I'd rather not wait for more spam. It has to get really bad before any admin protects the page. If they do protect the page it will usually be for a short time. Based on the edit history the spam will continue. QuackGuru (talk) 23:51, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
What are your thoughts about this article? The current protection feature is not working. I made a note about it on the List of electronic cigarette brands talk page. QuackGuru (talk) 05:12, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

New Page Review Newsletter No.10

Hello Slashme, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

regarding your edit at List of Rump States

Maybe you misunderstood my edit. I meant to remove the redirect and reinstate the article as it was before it was blanked in favor of the redirect...a redirect for which there was no discussion, no consensus, and no justification offered. I've reinstated the article and removed the redirect. As per BRD, the addition of the redirect was a Bold move. It has been reverted. Now, its time to discuss and build a consensus. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 08:35, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

@Jack Sebastian: fine, but that's not what you did. You should never just blank an article. If you want to reinstate an old version, do so, but don't just remove the redirect, leaving a blank page. --Slashme (talk) 13:16, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
Absolutely. It was never my intent to simply leave the article empty like that. I meant to revert back to when the article had content. I forgot to do that, and I've corrected that in a subsequent edit. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 13:59, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

You can speed close the AfD, as the article no longer exists, it has been reverted back to a redirect as it was before.--Manbemel (talk) 19:03, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

Do you pay attention when you edit?

Your edits such as this are the opposite of helpful [1]. Excellent work redirecting to something to a section that doesn't exist! Every single WWE pay-per-view has their own page, yet you felt the need to change this to a revert this with absolutely no explanation? - GalatzTalk 13:24, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

I noticed that there was no section, but that doesn't matter: the redirect still works, and someone can add the relevant sections later by merging. Now that you've rejected the redirect, I'll submit the pages for deletion review. None of them has any content worth saving, and the references are far from establishing notability. --Slashme (talk) 19:24, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Oh, and the fact that other similar pages exist doesn't establish notability. --Slashme (talk) 19:26, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
That might be true, but consensus has always been that every WWE pay-per-view is independently notable. You are welcome to nominate them, but I do not see it going anywhere. - GalatzTalk 19:28, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
All X are notable isn't good enough. You still need to pass the GNG. Be that as it may, I'll submit them for review, and either they can remain independent articles, or they can become redirects, but we'll have a consensus so that this doesn't have to be re-hashed again in future. --Slashme (talk) 19:38, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

OK Galatz, I've submitted the article for review and made my case. I've also pinged you so that you can rebut it; let's see what comes out of the discussion. --Slashme (talk) 19:53, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

You mean article for deletion, don't pretend it's anything else.★Trekker (talk) 06:20, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
It's very unlikely to be deleted: more likely to be redirected to the main article. --Slashme (talk) 18:51, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
Then you shouldn't have nominated it for deletion. You should have nominated it for merge. But I am sure rather than saying anything of substance you will just reference 30 different wikipedia policies and blugeon the topic to the point where nothing can be read because it just goes on and on. - GalatzTalk 01:48, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
I redirected it to the main article. That redirection was reverted. It's perfectly normal to submit an article for review at AfD under those circumstances. What forum would you have preferred? Is there an AfM (Articles for Merge) process that I missed? Edit: I just found Wikipedia:Articles for merging. It's been defunct for years. --Slashme (talk) 04:51, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
