Disambiguation hatnotes[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I've just reverted your recent additions of the 'Redirect' template to articles linked on the twenty dollar bill page. To explain, this template is only needed where an ambiguous term redirects to a specific page. For example, if you search "Bach" it'll take you to the composer's page directly, so the Redirect template is needed in case people were actually looking for something else called Bach. In this case, if you search "twenty dollar bill" it takes you straight to the disambiguation page, so you won't end up at the New Zealand twenty-dollar note page by accident.

I hope that makes sense; appreciate that Wikipedia's a bit of a learning curve. Let me know if you have any questions about this, or if there's anything else I can help with. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:58, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ah ok, I decided to add it for all since the disambiguation page mentioned that "or twenty dollar note"
I was trying to make that disambiguation page more accessible since I saw that very few pages linked to it :) Smeagol2069 (talk) 23:05, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(I was trying to explore Wikipedia with links only, my goal was the disambiguation page, but I got stuck on the US $20 bill 😅 Smeagol2069 (talk) 23:12, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think that I should undo the edits for the Hong Kong twenty-dollar note too? Smeagol2069 (talk) 23:11, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I caught that one, so it's all good! :)
When you mention trying to make the disambiguation page more accessible, I'm curious what you mean by that? I'm not sure what benefit there is in linking someone back to the disambiguation page when that doesn't contain any useful information other than the links to the specific articles? But maybe I am missing something. Chocmilk03 (talk) 23:53, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was trying to do a "Wikipedia speedrun" where you start on a random page and go to a new random one. But there are so few pages that let you go to that final page, so I was trying to help. It makes sense that Wikipedia guidelines are higher priority than making a disambiguation page easy to access for the sake of a game. I'm not sure if Wikipedia has an official opinion on these games Smeagol2069 (talk) 23:59, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ahahaha. Those are a lot of fun! I can understand now what you were thinking of. Alas, while I don't know if there's an official view, I think you're probably right that Wikipedia guidelines take precedence, haha. :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 00:32, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
