Welcome![edit]

Hello, Smuskal, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was Steven Muskal, which appears to be an article about yourself. Writing about yourself is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians.

As this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them. A page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to or change it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Steven Muskal moved to draftspace[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Steven Muskal. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Wikishovel (talk) 22:04, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sources have been added as have cross-reference to company. My apologies, order of articles entered should have been reversed. Please move back. Smuskal (talk) 23:24, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion is prohibited[edit]

Information icon Hello, Smuskal. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.

  • It is extremely important that you cease creating articles in Wikipedia main space about yourself and the company you work for. If your only intent in creating this account was to write about yourself, you will likely find yourself blocked from editing.-- Ponyobons mots 23:34, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am perplexed. I am the founder of Eidogen-Sertanty, a company over 20 years old. I was asked why we didn't have a wiki page recently, so I started the creation process. I made the error of creating a factual, non-promotional page detailing information on me, the company founder (me) first. I have since created a factual, non-promotional company page. If you are suggesting the founder of the company can't create a page on the company, are you suggesting we pay someone to do this on our behalf. I can assure you the content provided is not biased, only factual. I would be hesitant to pay a wiki content creator. Smuskal (talk) 23:46, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you'll be perplexed if you read through the message and corresponding links I provided. Wikipedia is not a directory or a platform for you to write about yourself and your company. Wikipedia articles are created about individuals and companies that meet our notability criteria, written by volunteers that are not affiliated with the topics they write about. It is not a directory. See Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Yes, it is promotion, which should answer most of your questions.-- Ponyobons mots 23:57, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems odd that wiki would enable initial page creation by parties not necessarily familiar with a company, and prohibit a company principle from providing the basic information. As a founder of the company, I am most informed to create the initial Page. It’s not like we are seeking promotion. Again, the company is over 20 years old!
Are you suggesting we need to engage a wiki content creator? If so, please provide a list of “legitimate”
parties. I am concerned there are many frauds out there. Smuskal (talk) 00:03, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Again, this is not a directory. Wikipedia has articles on notable topics based on coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject, not pages created by accounts with a vested interest in the topics. I'm absolutely not suggesting that you hire a content creator (see WP:PAID). What I'm explaining is that you should not be attempting to create these articles at all. I'm not sure how you could review all of the links to our policies and guidelines regarding autobiographies and conflicts of interests I've linked to and still believe that it's acceptable to use Wikipedia as a platform to write about yourself and your company.-- Ponyobons mots 22:37, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - several references were added from well read, reliable, and noteworthy publications in the last iteration. These were not just passing mentions of the company, but significant works by the organization. Additional references can be added which have utilized the company’s products in methods and mentioned in reference lists - but you would have to read the papers to understand this. Is that what is necessary to address your objection(s)? Smuskal (talk) 15:45, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am confused. I noted several additions to the draft referencing works of significance with secondary and tertiary references. The references are quite detailed. Have you not read them? Smuskal (talk) 23:13, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
