Please do not use Wikipedia for affiliate marketing, such as you did in the article Troy Davis case. This is contrary to the guidelines on external links and immediately suggests that you may have a conflict of interest. Feel free to take a look at the five pillars of Wikipedia policy to learn more about this project and how you can make a positive impact. Thank you. --Fayerman (talk) 17:01, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I would like to object, though, that I was doing "affiliate marketing" or having a "conflict if interest". Democracy Now! is an independent NON-PROFIT news program which is explicitely not marketing or selling anything (just like Wikipedia). In which way could I add a link to the Democracy Now! report on the Funeral? Should I contribute to the article itself via a footnote? Or "immitate" the Guardian external link? Thank you for helping me. Socialmediadn (talk) 19:12, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps "affiliate marketing" was chosen incorrectly to describe your affiliation. Have you read WP:NOPAY and WP:SELFPROMOTE? Wikipedia uses the same standards for evaluating links to websites owned by for-profit and non-profit organizations. Initially, your edits were reverted as per WP:EL and WP:LINKFARM. Your combined edits revealed a pattern of affiliation (See WP:ADV). If you still would like to contribute, the most accepted format of the information provided should be in neutral prose placed within the appropriate article's text. --Fayerman (talk) 19:55, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for taking the time to explain, that helped a lot. I will try to write within the framework next time. Socialmediadn (talk) 22:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
