Weigh in?

Would you like to weigh in at the discussion in Talk:India on some 40 odd images? I know that's a lot, but a simple Yes/No would be adequate. Of course, if you choose to comment at more length, it would be even better. The India page is now the second most-viewed country page (after the US) and the 15th page overall, so having a set of high quality representative pictures becomes even more imperative. 2011 Provisional population

Really surprised to see the rise in population of UA of many cities. UAs in Kerala have experienced a massive increase in population. Looks like more number of areas were added to UA. --Commander (Ping Me) 10:35, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

It is frustrating to not know what is included in UA and what exactly is the criteria is used. Coimbatore's metro population increased 14 % and UA population jumped 50%. !!. Add to this confusion the recent expansion of 2011 limits, we are in for much work in wikipedia :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 10:38, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
They have provided the data regarding the constituents of UA. See this link --Commander (Ping Me) 10:50, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Awesome!!. Thanks!. I was looking for this for a long time :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 10:52, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
We need to update List of most populous cities in India and List of million-plus agglomerations in India. A bot would be of much use. --Commander (Ping Me) 11:04, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

What would be the Tamil equivalent of "Madras" - "மெட்ராஸ்" or "மெட்ராசு". --Commander (Ping Me) 09:32, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

both versions are perfectly fine. Grantha characters like ஷ், ஸ், ஹ், ஸ்ரீ, க்ஷ் are widely used to write tamil apart from the 247 tamil characters. There are some people who advocate shunning granta characters - for instance Tamil Wiki MoS recommends avoiding them (but doesnt ban them). So let "மெட்ராஸ்" remain else it will lead to lame edit wars (happens in ta wiki all the time)--Sodabottle (talk) 09:35, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

WP India in the Signpost

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject India for a Signpost article to coincide with WikiConference India next month. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or the interviewer, Belugaboy. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 03:50, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Differentiation

Do you think there is any difference between List of most populous metropolitan areas in India and List of million-plus agglomerations in India. --Commander (Ping Me) 14:43, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Apart from the titles and the fact that one has 47 more places listed? <g> I would redirect the shorter list to the longer one. - Sitush (talk) 14:46, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Is there a way to download this document. What is the primary source for this document. It's difficult to get such an elaborated data even from the census website I guess. --Commander (Ping Me) 10:53, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
It is a census 2001 document, which was earlier available in one of the union ministry websites, but not anymore. I wasnt able to download without getting a docstoc account, so used the "browse" feature + google search on that document (the contents are indexed by google search) to find the population of towns i needed. A bit tedious but it works--Sodabottle (talk) 12:36, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the link. I was able to calculate the land area of some UAs using that. --Commander (Ping Me) 03:59, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
The UA of coimbatore covers an area of 649 sq km (excluding areas like Malumichampatti, Arasur, Neelambur, Muthugundun Pudur, Somayampalayam, Pattanam and Perur Chettipalayam). I guess these areas must have been newly added to the UA after 2001. --Commander (Ping Me) 17:26, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
649!!. thats a square of 80 km!!.--Sodabottle (talk) 12:47, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Message from one of the Speakers of Wiki Conference India.

Dear Sodabottle,

A very warm good afternoon to you and other Wiki Conference Volunteers as well as the organizers.

I am one of the speakers of the upcoming conference. I also registered for the conference with the Reference ID:2989 following the confirmation of my speaker scholarship.

I have a few queries from the conference organizers and in this connection I sent an email to them on 8.11.2011.

I understand that the organizers / volunteers are responding to umpteen number of queries and probably a reply to my message is also on its way.

In this connection, if you could give me the personal email of a volunteer (e.g. Ashwin Baindur – with whom I interacted on the official email) or someone else using the “email this user” option of the Wiki, I will be thankful to you. Alternatively, if you are in a position to help and post the same message on my talkpage, I will again send the email text to you (through Wiki email) so that mutual communication is exchanged more easily.

I look forward towards a meaning cooperation with conference organizers, volunteers, participants and all other fellow speakers to make this conference a success and fruitful in meeting its goals.

Regards, Hindustanilanguage (talk) 09:51, 10 November 2011 (UTC).

I have replied to your email and forwarded it to your other email id too.--Sodabottle (talk) 10:07, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply at a short notice. I have also replied the email with a slight change in the itinerary pertaining to my arrival time and I request it to be noted.

I look forward towards meeting and interacting with you in person at the conference. Thank you once again and hope the very best for all your endeavors. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 10:32, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Coimbatore Telugu

Telugu language has several dialects and Coimbatore Telugu is one of them. Please see Wikipedia Telugu language page under paragraph 'Dialects'

98.118.245.116 (talk) 13:09, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

The addition there is not sourced. we cant use wikipedia as a source. The only sources i can find to such a dialect existing are from the 70s and that too talk about the language spoken in the region as a whole, not the city itself.--Sodabottle (talk) 13:19, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out. While searching for references for this , i did come across a census reference for the other piece of information i reverted and i have added it to the article - [1]. Will look for a reference that can specifically substantiate, that coimbatorean Telugus do speak "Coimbatore Telugu". I did find references to existence of this dialect, but they refer to the district/region as a whole rather than the city. Will try to find specific references and add the information--Sodabottle (talk) 13:32, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Generally speaking, when we say Thanjavur Tamil or Nellai Tamil, it does not refer to the dialect spoken in those cities only but covers entire districts of Thanjavur or Tirunelveli. In the same way the expression 'Coimbatore Telugu' refers to a Telugu dialect spoken in the entire district of Coimbatore including the city of Coimbatore.

98.118.245.116 (talk) 15:54, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Generally speaking yes. We can take extend the logic and say "coimbatore district" by default includes the city. But the references i find are from forty years ago and i am hesitant add this as we are bordering original research. Let me look for a couple of more days. If i am not able to find anything new and concrete, i will add the data with the available refs.--Sodabottle (talk) 16:01, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Tamil language - Wikipedia 'Three-revert rules'

This happening is not intentional. It is only because of my not understanding Wikipedia rules especially 'three-revert rules'. Hope that I will not face a 'Block'.

K.Ramadurai 16:29, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
no problems. since you stopped reverting after my pointer there is no danger of a block. In future if someone disputes your addition, please discuss in the talk page till a consensus is reached.--Sodabottle (talk) 16:35, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

" The third thing to remember is that Tamil or Dravida was not merely the language of South India but before the Aryans came it was the language of the whole of India[f82] and was spoken from Kashmere to Cape Camorin...........'

Tamil alphabet-- ஃப , ஃஜ , ஃஸ்

While editing my post to the Page' Tamil alphabet' it is remarked 'these are not newly created letters - these are alphabet combination conventions, no one has created new letters'. Thanks. Strictly speaking, you are right. But is there any objection in allowing my post duly deleting the words 'created and'? If agreed the post will read as follows:

In recent modern times, three combinations of Tamil basic letters have been introduced to impart sounds of English letters 'F', 'Z', and 'X' so as to enable writing of English and Arabic names and words in Tamil. They are ஃப for F, ஃஜ for Z and ஃஸ் for X. For example: asif = அசிஃப், rex = ரெஃஸ் , aZaarudheen = அஃஜாருதீன்

K.Ramadurai (talk) 15:58, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

i suggest the following sentence:

Yes check it out. I am inclined to side with Kanatonian in that issue. There have been constant edit wars over who has more right to use that particular title and the current version makes it clear. Dont think the editor is a noob, same edits were made to the tamil version of the article under another name, looks like a caste forum astroturf campaign.--Sodabottle (talk) 17:57, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Improved translation of Jimmy's letter not published for a long time

Hi Sodabottle,

I improved the translation for Jimmy's letter 002 and 003(URL is given below) in the language Tamil and changed the status to 'proofreading'.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2011/Jimmy_Letter_002/ta https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2011/Jimmy_Letter_003/ta

Can u pls proof read and publish it?

This is as per the guidelines I've got from the help desk (as in the following URL).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Help_desk#Improved_translation_not_published

I've tried to get help from Wiki Raja; but no response from him since Friday.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Wiki_Raja

It would be a great help if you can do something about the translation.

Arun 05:32, 5 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gpgarun (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the translation. I have done some changes (mostly about making currency generic again), proof read them and changed the status to ready. Going by past trends, i think they will get published in a few days. let me know if you need any other help. Usually Tamil wikipedians - the ones who edit Tamil Wikipedia (i am one too) do these translations, so for faster responses, post a message in the alamarathadi section of tamil wikipedia - ta:விக்கிப்பீடியா:ஆலமரத்தடி. --Sodabottle (talk) 08:17, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Sodabottle for your instant action.
I have a question too. Hope you might be willing to listen to it.
The reader of the article (in Tamil) would be either from Tamil ethnicity (or those who can read Tamil at least) and hence must be very knowing Indian currency too. Jimmy's latest letter (in Indian domain) also represents the currency in Rupees only.
Is there any specific reason to represent the currency only generic?
Won't it make the audience feel little more closer to their heart if they see their own currency rather than the global ones? (Pardon me if the question is wrong. I'm new to editing even though I've been using Wikipedia for a long time).
Also, would like to know your opinion on the overall translation I've done.
Thanks,
Arun 10:03, 5 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gpgarun (talkcontribs)
The letters 002 and 003 are not domain/ geo targeted. They are generic all communities messages for people choosing tamil interface and for tamil wikiprjects. ரூபாய் has potential to cause confusion as Only Indian rupees are being accepted now in the donation campaign. About 30% of Tamil speakers (and a higher number of Tamil wiki project users) come from outside India. And the second biggest tamil population uses a different rupee (Srilankan Rupee).
The Jimmy message you are referring to (i translated it :-)) is geo targeted to Indian IPs alone, so if we - indian tamils - see the word ரூபாய் we will take it to be INR and donate. But it wont be shown to Srilankans (for them ரூபாய் is SLR) which is about half the value of INR. If we show a message that reads ரூபாய் to srilankans too, there is a potential for confusion. They go and donate 250 rs thinking it is SLR and end up donating double as the amount deducted is in INR. To avoid this confusion i want to keep it generic. It isnt a good fit, but is the least bad version in my opinion - again my opinion alone. I will ask how others in Ta wiki projects feel (where these appeals are going to be displayed most)--Sodabottle (talk) 10:23, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thought about this some more and talked to others. I feel now, your version is better. Have changed it back and added "இந்திய” before "ரூபாய்” to avoid confusion with SLR--Sodabottle (talk) 10:51, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank for your detailed explanation..
Change of 450 millions to 45 crores is also nice (which I proposed to do but didn't). Would be nice if you could do it (change 45 crores) in letter 003 too (which is missing as of now). Arun 12:43, 5 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gpgarun (talkcontribs)
Done. changed to 45 கோடி.--Sodabottle (talk) 13:17, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank u.. One more change request: The paragraph starting with: இதைப் படிப்பவர்கள் அனைவரும் $ 5 கொடையளித்தாலே has been translated as இதைப் படிப்பவர்கள் அனைவரும் இந்திய ரூபாய் கொடையளித்தாலே (missing amount 250).
Also some other user has changed the status from 'Ready' to 'Needsupdating'. Can you please check? Arun 14:24, 5 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gpgarun (talkcontribs)
Fixed it. apparently the 003 letter is for all wikimedia sites likes wiktionary et al, so they need a generic variable name to be placed instead of ”விக்கிப்பீடியா”--Sodabottle (talk) 14:38, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your clear explanations (patience as well to clarify my questions).
Found the status of the letter as published this morning. May I know when will it (Jimmy's letter) be shown? It was displaying Bradon's letter when I tried with Tamil Wikipedia today. Arun 05:49, 6 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gpgarun (talkcontribs)
No problem. We need more new people to make improvements on things like this. Without feedback and external opinion, we regulars stick to our own perspective and end up producing dull literal translations ;-). Regarding publishing, need to check what ratio the campaign is adopting. Generally fundraising team have multiple banners and have a ratio for displaying them (like one gets 75% screen time and another 25% and so on). It depends on their internal strategy (like which banner is proving to be effective in getting people to click through and give money and so on). I hope you liked your Wiki experience (complex as it may have been ;-)) and start editing articles. Let me know if you need any help with anything else--Sodabottle (talk) 06:15, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks again for your helps to educate a wiki-beginner. I dont think its possible to rename categories. You need to create a new category in the correct name, add it to the articles and remove the old category from them.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:19, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Okay, but there are more than thirty sub-categories and 400 pages using this name. Developmental blocks are mentioned as revenue blocks, so it needs to be changed! --BabuOnWiki (talk) 04:23, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Looks like a task for a bot. Post a note in wikiproject TN talk page about this and ask for consensus. Once no one objects and consensus is obtained, create the new categories and ask someone like User:Ganeshk who has botflag to do the changing (bots can do this easily)--Sodabottle (talk) 04:43, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks anna! :-) --BabuOnWiki (talk) 04:46, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I have uploaded a few images sent by my cousin for the contest. Hopefully, I think that is considered my own work. Please take a look. Thanks! X.One SOS 12:44, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Er.. They cont be considered your own work, unless you can get a formal mail from your cousin assigning all rights over to you.--Sodabottle (talk) 12:46, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Of course. I can assure you that he has sent me all the rights, though I can't "prove" it. X.One SOS 16:09, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

No rush, but ...

Does this make any reliable references to Kongo Vellala Gounders? Is there anything worth translating for the KVG article? It is cited there but is meaningless to me. - Sitush (talk) 16:10, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Pulavar . Se. Irasu - the author of that article runs a "resarch centre" on kongu nadu/gounders etc out of Erode. Personally i find some parts of his research (especially on Tamil literature) worthwhile, while the rest has the look of caste crud/boosterism. Will go through the article in detail and see if there is anything good--Sodabottle (talk) 16:54, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Ah. I do not recall the name but is this the same person who runs the Tamil Arts Academy thing? I find this sort of stuff to be something of a nightmare but, hey, I have to do my best & if it is a poor best then I apologise. In any event, there is no rush. The socking etc (where "etc" mostly means synthesis) has been so extreme on KVG that I've tended not to dig too deeply. Perhaps I should: if they are as significant as a certain few make out then surely there are decent English language sources somewhere? - Sitush (talk) 00:52, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Anna, may I know why this page name was changed so? --BabuOnWiki (talk) 10:02, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

I dont know why Ravi moved it, but this is the name (CMC) there is on the logo. (will confirm this soon)--Sodabottle (talk) 10:30, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
In its website, it bears the name Coimbatore City municipal Corporation. The background for me to raise up this is, I'm planning to expand the local bodies of Tamil Nadu to separate articles. In the midway, while analyzing the literature I found Coimbatore local body was created based on The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Act 1981. CMA classifies three types of Urban local bodies. --BabuOnWiki (talk) 10:42, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
adukulla mathitanungala :-).. i will move the page. and paste this in the talk page.--Sodabottle (talk) 11:00, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! :-) --BabuOnWiki (talk) 11:45, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Madras Manade movement

I appreciate your comment '(undue here, this is a summary style article add it to the main article)', OK. I have not yet completed and edited the writing. You asked me to add it to the main article. Does it mean that it should be at the beginning of the article Chennai i.e.,above the column 'name'?K.Ramadurai (talk) 15:23, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

No it means it should go into History of Chennai article.-Sodabottle (talk) 15:32, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Correct?

i have undid for now. The ip is wrong in claiming வானூர்தி = helicoper. வானூர்தி = aircraft while விமானம் is aeroplane. ”விமானம்” was the official word used till a few years back in referring to the airport and it is still used commonly. But ”வானூர்தி” is the more correct form that has been adopted by the government in the recent years. The name boards in the airport itself use the later as an official name (have seen them), while the former is more widely used. In Ta wiki we use the later term. But this isnt worth getting into an edit war though.--Sodabottle (talk) 18:17, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

ArbCom enforcement on User:Cossde

I don't think we can edit Wikipedia peacefully unless otherwise we take User:Cossde to ArbCom and find a solution for his disruption and POV pushing once and for all. He is making Wikipedia a mess and discussing with him on talk page is making me mad at times and losing my sense whether it is worth to discuss with a person who shows insanity or no logic.Sudar123 (talk) 09:16, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Arbcom is the final destination. Before that we should exhaust ANI and RFC/U routes. Be patient, file a few more ANI complaints and open an RFC/U if they fail to gain any result. This sort of POV pusher has to be dealt with extreme patience and care, else he will drag us down to his level.--Sodabottle (talk) 09:30, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Indian elections

Hello Sodabottle. I saw that you were involved in creating some very detailed articles on pre-independence elections in the Madras Presidency. I have recently begun creating a few articles on national-level pre-independence elections (1920, 1923 and 1934 so far). However, the level of detail I am able to get is very poor and is solely based on the Times newspaper archive. I wonder whether you may have some better sources and be able to improve them? Thanks, Number 57 10:44, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately we had no access to primary sources. The sources we used for the Madras Presidency election articles were all secondary ones - books which were reproducing results from the primary sources like Gazateers, Legislative Assembly records etc. I will look again and see if i can find something from gbooks, archive.org and my library--Sodabottle (talk) 11:35, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to Join Wikipedia Club Pune!

Invitation to Join Wikipedia Club Pune!
Dear Bala,

Your contribution(s) and passion towards Wikipedia is amazing!

We are having so much knowledge in India, but thats not available on Wikipedia. If we are not going to update it through our efforts, then who else is going to update that! There are two kind of people, who make fun of failed things, and who suggests improvements to failed things to avoid mistakes, I am glad to see your positive behavior and suggestions to make Wikipedia a better place. Both of us are working towards common goal, ways might be different, lets collaborate to have Better Wikipedia.Country with 1.2Billion people deserves better Wikipedia.

As a experienced Editor and Veteran Wikipedian,I would love to invite you to Wikipedia Club Pune

We would be graceful to have your guidance and support to make Wikipedia a better place.

Wikipedia Club Pune will be fun place to edit and collaborate with like minded editors and contributors. Club will be also having exclusive interesting Activities for members.

For More details, Please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Club_Pune

P.S : I was expecting someone else/experienced to start efforts to improve Wikipedia, but later on I realised everyone is busy, and If I started efforts, I might get support from experienced one's. Better to start things instead of waiting for someone to start, thats what I believe. As you are experienced one,And you also believe in improving Indian Content on Wikipedia,Lets work together.

Keep Suggesting, Keep Inspiring!

AbhiSuryawanshi (talk) 07:39, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the invitation. I would able to help online (especially if you keep the numbers as low as it now), but my greater concern about the club remains - You guys need to get more editing experience before you start teaching others. Start editing, wait till you have written a dozen articles, participated in AfDs, do some clean up work, rack up a couple of thousand edits AND THEN do outreach work. Raw enthusiasm wont make up for wiki experience and you are bound to run into the same problems as in IEP 1.0. --Sodabottle (talk) 07:48, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

I am so glad to see your response :)
  • We are starting with 25 Members (5 Teams). Each Group of 5 will be having a dedicated Mentor. As of Now, We are having three experienced on-ground mentors.(One Experienced Mentor have added his name already, remaining three will add their name soon)
  • Along with that, Online Experienced People like you will help us to monitor activity of 5 students. As IEP's biggest lesson, We are not running after numbers, We are more concerned about quality.Thats why 5 Students to 1 Experienced Editor Ratio is there. This may be less if needed like 3 students to one mentor if needed. But it wont exceed 1:5 Ratio. Please Add your Name to Mentors List.! It would be our pleasure to have person like you :)
  • We wont be doing outreach without experience.I agree - Raw enthusiasm is not good.We will be doing it with Experienced Mentors and Administrators only.Club Members Wont Do Direct Outreach Without Experience.
  • I am completely with you regarding experience. We might be newbies, but we are doing our best to get help from Experienced Editors like you.We dont want to prove anything, We want better Wikipedia - For that we are ready to do everything necessary. Please help us to identify experienced editors who believe that today's newbies will be experienced editors one day,and who believes to increase quality and quantity we need more editors.
  • It all starts with small belief and positive hope. Thank you so much for understanding newbie/inexperienced person like me, and giving valuable suggestions.I promise we wont disappoint you.
Please guide newbies like us to understand and spread Wikipedia Better.
Keep Encouraging, Keep Inspiring! AbhiSuryawanshi (talk) 08:38, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

I offered to help you online - if and when you edit. Don't take this as support for the club per se. I will do that for any newbie or experienced editor who asks for my help onwiki. I still dont think you have experience to conduct workshops or academies and guiding newbies. For the record let me state again - This club shoudln't be conducting any academies, workshops. period. They dont know what wikipedia is and having them teach other newbies will cause exactly the same results the IEP caused - a mess. Go find a few experienced editors to handle the outreach part of the program or keep this a editing only club (for which you will find helpers like me online).--Sodabottle (talk) 14:46, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

At last, Jimmy's improved translation appeared..

Hi Sodabottle,

At last Jimmy's letter in Tamil got displayed today..!

Since it was my very first edit in Wikipedia, I spent a lot of time to improve the letter..! Bit frustrated when it was not shown for a long time and I thought the time invested for this has gone vain without yielding any results.

However, before the fund raiser program got over for the year, it got displayed again by Wikipedia ..

I hope the improved translation would urge at least few more people (of Tamil) to donate Wikipedia by the end of the year..! Happy that I'm also able to contribute a little to Wikipedia thru this..!

Thank you for your support and guidance regarding this..

Wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2012.. :)

Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Tamil People". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 23 January 2012.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Request for mediation rejected

The request for formal mediation concerning Tamil People, to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. To read an explanation by the Mediation Committee for the rejection of this request, see the mediation request page, which will be deleted by an administrator after a reasonable time. Please direct questions relating to this request to the Chairman of the Committee, or to the mailing list. Dear Sodabottle,

When I happened to check my mail this morning, I received an intimation that there had been some change in my Talk page; and when I moved to that page, I was surprised to see that I had been awarded a Barnstar by John Harald for our translation in Fundraiser 2011.

You may kindly refer to the link: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Gpgarun.

I'm not much aware of the Barnstar and other credit kind of things in Wiki community. But I'm happy that it is given for my very first (but whole-hearted) edit in Wikipedia. Perhaps, you might remember that the improved translation was not published for a long time and appeared one day when the program was almost about to close, and I too shared it with you.

I really feel contented that the effort we put in didn't go vain; we're able to help Wikipedia at least up to certain extent.

But, this would not have been possible without your guidance and support whenever I sought.

So, the Barnstar is not only for me, but for you too.. (in spite of the fact that you received greater ones than this for your notable contributions)..  :)

Thanks a lot..

That tool is total crap :-). Produces gibberish and junoon Tamil. Without crosschecking line by line with the original article, readers cant understand what it is talking about.
